Well, where do I start? First, I would like to say that before I went to Dr. Whalen, I was EXTREMELY skeptical about whether or not a chiropractor would fix what was wrong with me. I got into a car accident at work (not my fault) and because of it, I was injured. My lower back hurt really bad, as well as my shoulder blade, and my headaches increased. My lawyer informed me that in order to heal, I needed to see a chiropractor and suggested Dr. Whalen. When I first went into his office, I was scared. Like crying scared because I was afraid of him hurting me because of what I read on the internet. (Screw you internet horror stories.) After I explained why I was upset, instead of looking at me crazy Dr. Whalen calmly explained what was wrong and did his first adjustment. I started crying. But not because of pain. Because I immediately felt better than I did before walking in their door. Before he did his adjustments on me, I could not even pick up my two year old son. And he is a momma's boy and couldn't understand why, so it was definitely a problem. It has now been over 3 months, and I can do almost everything I did before without pain. If I exceed my limit I start to feel pain but it is in NO way anywhere as bad as it used to be. As for their office staff, they have been nothing but kind and patient with me. They have welcomed my children in when I could not find a sitter, listened to them whine because they don't want to be there, and dealt with my missed appointments from time to time (Sorry Cheri. :] ) but I have never had any issues with any of them. I would honestly rate them 5 stars for making my pain go away. If I ever go to a chiropractor again, which I probably will on occasion, it will be here. Thank you Dr. Whalen! read more

Dr. Whalen is one of the best doctors I have ever been to. He is obviously an expert and knows how the neck and spine affect the rest of the body, and can explain it all to me so that I understand it. I have gone to other doctors for my neck and back injury, and Dr. Whalen is the first one to actually make progress. I have the added stress of this being a workers' comp claim, and Dr. Whalen and his staff have made the process so much easier for me. He and his staff actually care about me and my health, and I always feel like they are personally vested in seeing me to recovery. I live about 15-20 minutes away from his office, but it is definitely worth it. And he gets you in and out of the office quickly, which is really important to me since I'm still trying to work while recovering from this injury. I will not go to another chiropractor again! Dr. Whalen is fantastic!!!! I went to his office to start a preventative program as my back has a tendency to go out randomly. I was assessed adjusted and given a set of clear instructions with a plan to reevaluate as the process went on. It has been fantastic working with Dr W! I have been to chiropractors that adjust you and insist on you coming back indefinitely. That is not the game plan at Whalen Chiropractic. Doctor Whelan has a mellow, kind demeanor, his staff is nice, and he gets the job done. I've been to other chiropractors in the county, and I drive all the way out to Santee to go see him because I know I'll have a pleasant experience and get relief. He also explains what is wrong on the skeleton in his office, so I have a clear visual picture of what was messed up. I usually only go about 5 visits or less and the issue is resolved. read more

I have suffered from chronic back pain for 10+ years. I went to every doctor under the sun and had many x-rays and MRI's but nothing would help relieve the pain of my lower back. Over the years I spent hundreds of dollars on physical therapy appointments and other doctor appointments. In the end I was always referred to pain management because they could find anything wrong. I was not fond of the idea of being on pain medicine every day so I just suffered and dealt with the pain. After having my son in 2010 my back pain went from a 7 to a 10 (on a scale from 1-10). I was so fed up with not knowing why my back hurt and no one helping me I decided to go to the chiropractor. I did research for chiropractors in my area and Dr. Whalen was reputable and close to home. After the first 10 minutes with Dr. Whalen he could tell that I was not aligned (one leg was off by almost an inch). It only took about 6 weeks (one visit per week) for my back to start feeling great. I went from a pain level of 10 down to a 2 within a month. Now I only have to go once a month for preventative 'maintenance'. I do go more often if I am having problems with migraines. It has been years since I've been to a chiropractor but a friend recommended this place so I figured why not? They have a couple doctors working here and I ended up getting Dr. Polk. He is very professional, he really takes his time with you, and I always get the feeling that he genuinely cares about his patients. My 7 year old son started going to Dr. Polk just recently. At first my son was a little apprehensive about getting adjusted (mainly because it was something different for him) but now he looks forward to it and asks me when he gets to go again. Dr. Whalen is a gifted chiropractor. I've been seeing him mostly for lower back pain for many years with good results. I'm not a fan of the supplement industry though so I'm very wary of some of the other items he has tried to sell me in the past. The one exception is the Take Shape For Life program. He helped me get on it and it has worked miracles thus far. In less than a week and a half I've lost nearly 15 pounds and there is plenty of follow-up support to try to keep the weight off this time. read more

I LOVE Dr. Polk. For a year I tried to get help with TMJ. After being sent from this to that doctor my daughter talked me into going to Dr. Polk. BEST thing I've ever done. Before I could barely chew food. My jaw would lock shut on one side and the disc get stuck on the other. My jaw was in a constant state of dislocation, according to the MRI. I would wake up in at night in pain, even sleeping with a night guard. After just 2 weeks there was a HUGE difference. My teeth didn't touch in the back before and now they do. I don't click and pop anymore and i can EAT food. Just amazing. I didn't think it would get better so fast. I totally recommend him!!!! I don't know what I would have done. read more

After my daughter was born, an old snowboarding injury made itself known in the form of chronic lower back pain. Not to mention all the stress and strain that come with caring for a newborn. I have been treating with Dr. Whalen since June 2011 and he really knows what he is doing. I was nervous in the beginning because I only had one prior experience with Chiropractic theraphy after a car accident years ago, which resulted in several painful days after that one visit. I have not once experienced pain or intense soreness after Dr. Whalen's treatments. He listens to you and puts his experience to the test to make sure you leave feeling good. While my grandfather was visiting this spring he went to see Dr. Whalen 3 times for a bad back, and felt great afterwards. This speaks volumes for a 76 year old man who receives injections for pain.
