J & J Antiques sits at the edge of Cottonwood's Old Town and looks from the outside like a relic from the gold rush era (which it probably is). Inside, it's a seemingly never-ending warren of what can only be called "shops". You know, an antique collective filled with little stalls, each specializing in whatever oddity the vendor sees fit to hunt down and resell. There's everything in here from the booth reselling Scrabble tiles to the guy reselling irons. I walked out of here with 3 unique necklaces for what I thought to be a most reasonable price but that's only because I exercised restraint. In today's disposable culture, these kind of shops are in sharp decline. I might not want all of the stuff on display here but I sure do want to look at it all. Cottonwood's historic district is filled with similar shops but J & J Antiques is the first place I'd send you to. They literally have everything a shop like this should. Great place.

There's something for everyone and there are local suppliers who probably have a set minimum for their goods that they ask for. Thus my son got an intricate carved wooden spear thingie for $5 but other items seemed higher end antique priced. The boys found old hockey cards and I snagged a Disney Stores Mickey beanie baby in mint condition for $8. Fun to look around if you're into antiquing and nostalgia. Love this shop! I love copper- so I was happy to poke around this store and lap it a few times before I settled on what I wanted. I picked out a bracelet hand etched by an artist of the Hopi tribe, a copper splash artist how I had already admired the artwork in other shops- I picked up a heart shaped piece of copper & a copper electroplated redwood leaf- needle bundle! The electroplated leaves- I wanted all of them! They are real leaves, 3 different kinds, all copper electroplated and gorgeous! But- at $30 a piece, one was what I got. I spent a decent amount in this shop and wanted to spend more. The owner was very knowledgeable and helpful! He also creates copper jewelry and I loved his pieces too!
