I dropped my dog off here for 3 weeks of training, picked him up and he was filthy, scared of men, bit my Aunt, violent towards other dogs, and shuttered when I went to brush him. He went in a very sweet dog who needed impulse control like not to jump. I can't tell you how disgusted I am with this place and the way the handled it. They should be checked by the authorities for abuse. read more

My husband and I met with Steve for half an hour to introduce him to our 4 month old puppy, for which we were considering What's Up Dog board and train, "puppy training" option. Steve convinced us that our puppy would be in good hands, and the perfect age to learn how to place, heel, and follow other basic commands; so we scheduled our pup. Steve recommended 1 month of boarding for puppy training, but we convinced him to do the training in 2 parts: 2 weeks each. He said since he was still a puppy, he'd arrange a different situation for him to stay. After the first two weeks, we called to collect our puppy. We were surprised when we were told, come in any of our open hours. But when were they going to review the training with us? Any way, we headed over to collect him. He was a mess! Clearly traumatized. He was whimpering and shaking! I took him into my arms to calm him. Both of us were shocked. We asked the front desk, when the training would be reviewed with us, and they said, our pup only received "confidence training". What? We're not even sure what that entailed. Like others, we did not get to see where our puppy was housed, but was told, after the fact, that he was placed in a typical dog run. Not a special place. He was 4 months old and barely 20 lbs. His bedding had been removed, because he was nervously chewing on it, they said. They could not locate his bed, so we left without it. When we called to speak with Steve and insist on an explanation, someone else called us back. They said all dogs receive "general" training, such as to sit when they receive they're food, and to wait before darting out a door, and they would be happy to review those things with us. Puppy training, really? Our pup is now 8 months old, and my husband and I still see the negative affects of this early trauma. Don't do puppy training here. Don't do any board and train here whatsoever. And don't board at any location, who isn't comfortable showing you, just where your pup is going to be! read more

this place gave me the creeps.. the people working there seemed like they were not interested in any of the dogs there for daycare, and didn't even ask me for my dog's vaccination records or her temperament.. any normal questions most doggy daycare facilities ask for. My dog is usually very outgoing and loves to play, but when i picked her up they told me she wanted to be held the whole time.. which is really unusual. Turns out she was in a small enclosed pen, maybe 10x0 ft, with 3 german shepherds and 4 golden retrievers - and my dog is a small corgi! She doesn't mind big dogs but that many in that small of an enclosed indoor space, no wonder she was so stressed out when i picked her up. Will not be going here again, took a full day for my dog to act normal again read more

Day care looks good, was there on a Saturday so no pups there to play. Day care didn't seem huge, but also doesn't seem like they take in a ton of dogs. Staff that was there was friendly and seemed knowledgeable, and was /is also a groomer. Store limited in selection and pricey. However, pricey bc is hi quality food and unique chew bones. read more

I took my one year old crazy wild puppy to Steve to begin training on July 30, 2018 and after 2 1/2 hours I walked out with a much calmer, better behaved dog. Steve not only trained Paco but he trained me on how to get the best from my dog. I have more sessions and I am excited about going again. I was considering boarding my dog here. I always check out a kennel first before booking a reservation so I stopped at their Hwy 98 location. They were very nice - told me that they do not board here - and only board at their 180 Lynn Drive address and to stop by there at any time. So on Saturday 10/21 I drove over to check it out. It's in a crowded run-down industrial park. While waiting in the lobby, an employee who was out walking 2 young dogs (1 was a puppy about 4-5 mos old) brought them in. Both dogs were very afraid / apprehensive and not wanting to walk with him. He was dragging the puppy on a leash and then when he got it to the day-care room door "kneed" it in the chest so that it wouldn't go in the room before him. When he came back out he asked how he could help - and I said I was visiting from out of town and was considering boarding here and asked if I could have a tour. He didn't know what to say and approached Steve, the owner, who abruptly said "I don't have 1 minute, do you?". The employee looked at me not knowing what to say. With the rudeness of the owner - and - the rough treatment of these young dogs, I said - "I've seen enough and have made up my mind" and left. Disorganized, rough with the dogs, unprofessional and unfriendly is the bottom line for this place. I would never put my pet here. read more

All pet boarding places should be able to tell you the max number of dogs, the dog to attendant ratio, screening process for taking dogs in for boarding. Not familiar with the area and just passing through, I needed some help with my service animal and some gear. What a place and what great people. Cory was more than friendly after helping sort out some service dog issues and lack of products in the area. They carry a wide variety of quality dog food that is much healthier than the average corn meal and awful fillers some brands use. Wanted to keep the positivity going with COVID-19, I recently moved to Florida from North Carolina and decided to make a stop at the Santa Rosa Beach location, after being referred by a friend that boards her dogs with What's Up Dog! My main focus was the facility and daycare, but was glad to know that they had some retail options (food, toys, collars) . I met a young lady named Casey who was very knowledgeable about the facility and seemed to have a great relationship with the dog she had on leash. She informed me about their daycare and boarding options and showed me the inside play area. Very impressed and comfortable with what I saw. Also, knowing that the staff was very friendly and professional was the cherry on top!! Once we are able to travel comfortably, I see no issues with future boarding and occasional play dates for our dogs!! read more

If you are looking for obedience training for your pet, you will not be disappointed with What's Up Dog. They are the best! My husband and I enrolled our Golden Retriever puppy in their basic obedience class and we were amazed at the results in just a couple of weeks! It was not only a training session for our puppy but my husband and I learned a lot as well. Our dogs never stayed here. We walked in, immediately walked out and made other arrangements for our dogs. This companies website provides a gross misrepresentation of your dog's accommodations. We booked the 15x15 "home sweet home" private room and quickly realized the room was not private and had crates lined up filled with frantic dogs. Anyone reading reviews obviously love their dogs like family and don't want the stress of sub par kennels. Our suggestion would be to travel 1.5 miles down the road to Emerald Coast Kennels. The staff was professional, courteous and luckily had room for our 4 German Shepherds with such short notice. DON'T BE FOOLED BY THESE PEOPLE. read more

This is my first hand experience as a former customer of What's Up Dog. I'm not one to write reviews often, it normally takes a really amazing experience or a really shitty experience for me to sit down and write it out. Unfortunately in this one, it's a shitty one. I met the owner of What's Up Dog, Steve, about a year ago. I had done my research and he came beyond recommended. I met with him when I moved down to the area and within the first couple hours of meeting him I knew I had to have one of his dogs. I had my heart set on importing German Shepherd and it just so happened he had just imported a pregnant GSD with puppies due within a couple months. Steve was great, he let me come hang out with Farrah (mom) often and I got to know Steve and the team. The puppies were born August 2, 2017 and they were amazing! I was able to see them whenever I wanted and within the first week I had picked mine out. Seeing some of Steves person dogs I knew I had to do his training so I agreed to a puppy imprinting 4 week course, which meant I wouldn't get my puppy until 12 weeks. Shortly after the puppies were born Steve announced he would be opening a retail store in Miramar Beach and that's when things changed. The first year opening any business is hard, but that doesn't mean the other half of your business should suffer. That's when Steve started talking about all the things that he was going to do with the puppies as they grew and almost none of it happened. The crew that worked at the Lynn location started working more at the Miramar Store and the quality of the Lynn store showed. More times than not, the store smelled of dog pee. The puppies at that time were in a pen with shavings and again more often than not, the dogs were sleeping in their own pee and poop. (Fun fact: When dogs get used to sleeping in that they have no problem being yucky as they get older) It was obvious that Steve was relying on his established Lynn store to bring the profit in. The Lynn location was always overbooked. What's up Dog is one of the most priciest dog boarding kennels in the area with not much to show for it. Since they were always overbooked, their were always dogs out back in the warehouse in individual crates. This wasn't disclosed to the owners so when they think they are paying $45 per night and up they think their dog is in a nice run or whatnot and they aren't. Same with training, with all the trainers stretched thin the dogs weren't getting the training that their owners thought they were. At 12 weeks when I was able to bring my puppy home as well, within two weeks of having consistent diarrhea, and Steve telling me it was normal I went to the vet where she was diagnosed with Giarhdia and hookworms. This is something that is spread from puppy to puppy and was picked from another puppy at his facility. When something like this happens, a facility should be sprayed down and disinfected, which was not done. Around 8 weeks is when I asked the million dollar question to Steve, have the puppies AKC papers arrived? I was told that they were in process and that he'd have them soon. A few weeks later I followed up again with the same answer. This time I got a little bit more information, that he had had someone else fly Farrah in, in Southern FL and that they had her papers. Those that aren't familiar with the AKC process. If parent's are from overseas then they come with different paperwork and you have to submit it and do a DNA test. Fast forward to today, my pup is almost a year old and I still do not have her papers in hand. I've reached out multiple times and once I confronted him with all the data and told him I wanted a portion of my money back for breach of contract he informed me that since I didn't want to keep an amicable relationship with his kennels that I could have any further correspondence with his lawyer. I took the time to write this because Steve is a good talker, he's full of a lot of knowledge but he doesn't care about the dogs anymore. He cares about the money. Not having the papers in hand for Farrah, he should have disclosed up front. Especially before breeding a litter that was advertised as AKC registered. He has now bred Farrah twice with no papers and advertised them as registered AKC German Shepherds. For a breeder that supposedly breeds selectively and infrequently, this is a lot of puppies. I support small businesses as much as I can but I cannot stand someone who takes advantage of customers and uses a previous good reputation to take advantage of new customers. read more

Did the board and train for my German Shepherd, he was to be a service dog for my autistic son. This seemed like the best option because either was a student at the time. It was hard to find out info on my dog while he was being trained, I would call nobody would know. And I never got the updates at promised to be posted on Facebook, like a video of my dog working. I went to pick him up and I should have known it was going to bad because he was jumping on me...and would not stop. I found out an intern was training my dog.. they didn't remind me of my appointment, he was there for five weeks. I was a little late and the intern was told to show me everything. Went to the working area there was about four dogs in little wire cages. My dog wouldn't do half the course he supposedly was going to master while they had him. Not only that you can't put him in a wire cage for any reason now.. he will literally eat through wire. I've got thousands into this dog, dude talked crap about his bloodline, I guess cause I didn't buy a Shepherd from his breeding program. So he just didn't train my dog. Almost wonder if he was abused.. it's been over a year and my dog is still having issues. Please use a different trainer or at least do not board with these people......Not if you have a German Shepherd or a dog that is going to a disabled child. Such a disappointment. read more

I took my Newfoundland puppy to What's Up Dog for basic obedience training and help with issues with her jumping up on me and getting out of control while playing, nipping, etc. I was beginning to be afraid of my dog, because she is a giant breed and very powerful. It's like having a toddler with superhuman strength and any champion Newfoundland breeder or trainer will tell you that these dogs need socialization, training, and firm but gentle discipline from the get go. After just one session with Chad, I was able to redirect her energy and learned how to understand where the behavior was coming from and how to correct it. Being a giant breed, and a very expensive dog, she needed training from a facility who knows the challenges of dealing with a dog who gains 15-20 pounds a month and by 5 months of age can pull you off your feet if she decides to take off. I have had three sessions with them so far and I am more than happy with her progress and the improvement in her behavior. My dog is sweet but has a bit of a stubborn streak which they handle gently but firmly (meaning the worst I've ever seen them treat her is giving her a pop of her chain collar followed by immediate praise when she does what she is told.) They always have time to discuss any particular issues I'm having with her (such as chasing and almost stomping my cat because she wants to play) and they give me candid feedback when they watch me do the exercises with her. The neighbors aren't laughing anymore when I walk my dog who used to pull me down the street and not listen to me. Now they complement me on how nicely she walks on leash and how she no longer goes nutty and tries to jump all over them when she sees them. Now she sits politely and waits to be petted, and no more "nut dog"! The staff and owner are excellent, they know what they're doing, and I now am beginning to build the relationship with my dog that I've always wanted. She also attends Doggie Daycare there. She can't wait to go in when she gets there, and when I pick her up she is exhausted and happy. I had to wait a while before we had our first session due to Hurricane Michael and some scheduling issues, but they were well worth the wait. I look forward to enrolling my dog in their other training programs once we're done with basic obedience and further building my relationship with my well-trained, well-behaved giant dog! read more

My husband and I adopted a dog about 4 years ago. Once we got her home we realized she has high anxiety and aggression with other dogs. We could hardly walk her around our neighborhood. We took her to another trainer a few years ago but it didn't seem like anything was going to help so we just learned to live with it. We found out our family is growing and knew we had to do something about our dog because we didn't want to just put her outside(which is what everyone around me suggested). I googled dog trainers in the area and saw What's up Dog. We took her for a introduction session and knew after we left the trainer/owner was going to be able to help us. He tried different things and explained to us what he was doing and how we could continue the training at home. After a few training sessions we are so happy with our experience at What's up dog. He really seems to understand dogs and actually likes them (which is something I didn't feel from other trainers). I would recommend this training company to anyone.
