Vacationing in Destin for a week, I wanted a place there to board my dog. I loved Four Paws! Much less expensive than in Atlanta, PLUS much better, as far as my 13-year-old Australian Shepherd is concerned. First, the owners, Jeff and Billie, were great taking time to talk with me the month before we came. They are very serious about their business... and about their clients. Then, they treated my old fella great. When I picked him up, he was actually doing better than when I left him! He didn't over-play like he'll do in Atlanta, and hurt himself. They obviously gave him his medicines regularly. He got to run free and interact with other dogs. BEST, he was kept inside, which is good in that baking Florida heat... he's not cut out for it. They'll also let you "check your dog out" if you want to get him for the day and take him to the beach or something. Ideally, the house we vacation in would allow pets. But, the next best thing, I am convinced, is Four Paws for boarding. read more

I booked a week's stay for my dog back in August, based purely on the reviews on Yelp and pictures I saw online. From what I saw online, the dogs have a nice crate-free environment. An outdoors area to play every day. My dog was adopted from a shelter and she seemed so scared when I saw her in that loud room, stuck in her crate that I didn't want her to worry that she was being left again so this seemed like a great option. Once we made the drive in to Destin (we are many states away), I couldn't believe it. First off, I was given times that drop off was available. Having never boarded, I thought this might be normal practice. When I arrived, no one was at the building. The dogs were in the room seen on the pictures but they were in it (large and small mixed together), all alone. I saw urine and feces on the floor. I realized really quickly, this was not a place for my dog, crate-free or not. I spent about ten minutes walking around the building, seeing firsthand, conditions that I didn't want my dog to be a part of (and I felt bad for the poor dogs that were scratching on the glass door just looking for some interaction). I called a competitor to try to make last minute plans elsewhere and they were booked. I told them the situation and they said they regularly field calls from people who encounter the same thing. They shared with me the name and number of an animal hospital that had boarding and told me they would write my information down in case anything opened up. By this time, an employee had driven up in a truck (child in the passenger seat) and he was ready for me to hand over my dog. I told him I had a change of plans...he asked why. I told him I didn't like that the dogs were in the room, alone like that. I told him that I thought someone would be here with them. He told me they do have people there (there wasn't anyone there). The doors were locked and no one answered my knock. He unlocked the doors when he got there, and locked them back up when I changed my mind (and he prepared to leave again). I am one to take negative reviews with a grain of salt - some people are just too hard to please - and I took an earlier review as such. This is one I HAD to write in hopes that other families aren't left showing up to Four Paws with the sudden realization that they've booked a place that leaves their family pets unattended. Four Paws is very inexpensive compared to other places, and now I see why. This experience also made me realize that I NEVER want to book a vacation somewhere that is NOT pet friendly. read more

Let me begin by saying that not many groomers will do cats, and the job was eventually done. HOWEVER, I made an appointment and drove an hour with my cat, only to arrive and hear "oh, yeah, I guess it's Tuesday...well, our groomer isn't here, they went to Crestview to groom". WHAT? So, four hours later I call to check on the cat, and am rudely told that they'll call me when he's done. NINE hours later, I arrive to retrieve my cat, who has been completely shaved. Which is not what we asked for. So I paid my 90$ and laughed it off, because he looks ridiculous. read more

Another visit to Okaloosa Island for us last week and another visit for Buddy to Four Paws! J.D. definitely remembered Buddy and Buddy was glad to be back. Same great owner...same great location. J.D. was very accommodating to our leaving on a Sunday morning and met us there to pick up the Bud. As before, at our request, Buddy had been bathed and clipped prior to being picked up. Our dog is 14 yrs old now and definitely has his senior moments :) We had no qualms about leaving him in J.D.'s care. Quality boarding for your dog! Highly recommended! read more

I have nothing but good things to report about Belle La's brief stay with Four Paws. Although we had to go pick up Belle La and take her to the vet they made arrangements with, it was not their fault that Belle La was so anxious and did not adjust. Belle is not use to being boarded and just didn't do well. We so much appreciate the fact that Billie and J.D. recognized that Belle' La was not going to get any less anxious after trying various scenarios to make her more comfortable. 11 hours!!! I would NEVER expect my girls to stay at a groomers for that long! I asked for a length of 4, (instead the owner thought I wanted to pick them up after 4:00. STILL 6:00 they're finally done to the owners liking! ) which a 4 is VERY short..... still they didn't understand! LAST TIME for us here! Oh yeah $90.00 later! I don't think I even have to respond to your comment for people to realize how unprofessional and strange you are. But I will say that, obviously, we brought plenty of food for our dog- dry and wet. We included a few cans of wet food only so a little could be mixed with his dry food if he wasn't eating. Why would I give you a fake number?? That doesn't even make sense. And I did call to check on him. Twice. No answer. Also, our dog wasn't nearly 15- but I'm glad you decided to make up some random details to plead your case. After upon returning home from another great family vacation from Destin Florida, I have to say that one of the best memories of our trip was the loving and fun care that Four Paws gave our buddy Rocco! Plenty of love, attention and wonderful beding was to be had by our be-loved Rocco. Aside from that he had a clean and bright environment to not only play in, but to rest as well. Rocco made many new friends including that of both owners and guests. The owners were beyond accomadating when my wife, son and I would chose to pick Rocco up and take him out for some fun in the sun! Attentive, Honest and sincere is what can be said of these operators. All in all a great place to stay...... I may even stay there myself! LOL! read more

This salon is NOT as advertised. First, it's on a busy street with only a small front and back plot of grass to walk the dogs in. I walked my dogs and there was poop all over, so they don't pick it up. Yuck. When I walked in the owner was yelling at a dog. I assumed it HAD to be his dog b/c surely he wouldn't talk to someone elses dog that way. No, it was a customers dog who was getting yelled at for pooping on the floor. They were supposed to be free roaming, but the first thing they did was put my dogs in a kennel. The free roaming rooms were not as cozy as they appear online. They looked like the inside of a garage. They keep your information on a notecard which will prove to be bad book keeping later in my story. I was dropping off two dogs. My friend was going to pick them up, then drop them back off, then I would pick them up a few days later. This would be a total of two stays. I explained the situation and asked the OWNER if I could go ahead and pre-pay for both stays b/c I didn't want my friends having to pay. He said that would be fine. I said, "how will your staff know when I pick them up that I have already paid?" He said, "I'll make sure they know and if there are any problems tell them to call me and I'll stamp 'paid' on your notecard." When my friend went to pick up the dogs the first time, they tried to charge him (cash only) for that visit. He said they were pre-paid and the employee just let me dogs go with him. They couldn't call me b/c they had lost all my contact information. So, my friend gave them my phone number. Then when I came to pick them up 3 days later, the owner himself tried to charge me for the second visit. I reminded him that I had pre-paid and he said, "there is no way I would have let you pre-pay me" and we argued for 20 minutes. I told him I would send him copies of the checks. He was VERY defensive and when he showed me the notecard where he said he would have stamped paid, it was a totally different notecard than the original! This one must have been the one they made after my friend gave them my phone number. I had also been receiving strange text messages and phone calls the entire week from someone. When I finally answered the phone, it was the owner trying to send me a video of someone else's dogs! So he had my contact info on someone else! Not to mention they lost one of my leashes when I picked up my dogs and they kept calling the male dog a girl, and my female dog a boy. So they obviously hadn't spent much time with them. The owner asked me not to go on the internet and post bad reviews about his company...yeah right. Please do not support this company. There didn't appear to be any reason that he had a kennel other than the money. He was not warm and did not display any type of affection toward the animals. read more

On a recent trip to Destin, I was trying to locate someone that I would feel "good" about leaving our 8 year old Shih Tzu with. I did research online and was pleasantly surprised to come across Four Paws Boarding and Pet Salon on the internet. It was a great location, and the facility looked fantastic. The phone interview put me at ease and when I arrived at the facility I was happy to see how clean and open the place was. The owners went out of their way to meet me "after hours" to take in our four legged family member, and after dropping our "baby" off, I felt confident that he would be safe and well taken care of. When we picked up "Man Dawg" he was happy, and well cared for. I now know that in the future, we can count on Four Paws Boarding to take care of our baby when we visit Destin. This place is truly amazing. We just had our 4 year old Lab mix, Zoe, there from 6-14 to 6-18. Our dog had never been to any type of kennel or doggie day care. Zoe had a serious bout of anxiety (to the point we were about to take her to the vet). Billie worked with finding a solution for both of them. Thank you so much for providing a great place for her to stay as well as getting her over her anxiety as well as you did. The facility is clean and the people really care for the pets as if they were their own. Each individual has their own personal experience and some cases may not be pleasant but I received outstanding customer service from JD and Billie! I called hoping they would be able to groom my shih tzu, Lucy at a last minutes notice and they told me to bring her on in! I picked her up a couple hours later and seriously the best haircut job she's had! I'm not taking her anywhere else from now on! I would recommend them all day long! read more

I seldom write reviews but due to the number of negative ones thought I should talk about my experiences at 4 Paws. We've been using 4 Paws for over a year for grooming our Shisu. A problem we have consistently had in the past is Graci coming home traumatized after being groomed. The first time we took her in for a grooming she was glad to see me as usual but showed no signs of trauma or even being anxious. JD and the ladies all loved on her and made her feel comfortable, even as we were leaving. We are more than pleased with the service and the way Graci looks after being groomed. She always gets lots of compliments on how good she looks. read more

We just boarded our 2 babies (Jax our boston terrier & Baxter our pug) at the Destin location for 6 days. They were treated just like family, I could tell when we picked them up. We rarely board our dogs because they are always so stressed and even sick on occasion when we pick them up. I decided to try this place for a grooming for my goldendoodle despite the previous negative reviews. I don't usually write reviews, but I was so disappointed I think it should be addressed. I called on a Tuesday, and made an appointment to drop my dog off on Thursday. He took my name and told me to drop her off between 8 and 10 and that she needed to be picked up by 3 PM. When I dropped her off they had no record of me calling and I had to give all my info again, not surprising based on other reviews. But they took her back and I verified that I needed to pick her up by 3 PM, the girl said yes and said they would call me when she was done. The first call I received was at 1:40 PM asking when I was going to pick her up because they closed at 2 PM. (This was the first call I received). I work a 30 minute drive away so I dropped everything to go pick her up by 2 PM. The hours he has posted online say they close at 5, but the groomer informed me that they close whenever they are done each day. Apparently they were done and they wanted to close so they made me drop everything to come pick up my dog, even though they had originally told me at 3 PM. That's fine if you close early but you need to tell your customers that instead of giving them a 20 minute warning. That said the grooming was fine and the groomer stayed "late" so I could come get my dog. read more

After being concerned leaving my 14 year old Yorkie in a kennel at home, I decided to bring him with our family to Destin, but our condo was not pet friendly. I found Four Paws online and let me tell you from my initial contact with the owners, Jeff & Billie... to them meeting us late on Saturday night to drop our Yorkie off... to visits during the week to see our dog, they are first class and clearly animal lovers. They supplied my dog with a comfy bed and no cages! It was a big playroom with other small dogs and my pooch even made some new play friends. They have a separate room for large dogs. :) I never worried and I don't think my dog wanted to leave their loving care. I have never seen my dog so full of life after we have left him in the care of others. I highly recommend! They were always cleaning and went out of their way to make sure my dog ate while we were away. Friendly, clean, a real relaxing and fun retreat for your dog! Other pet care places can't hold a candle to their service. He even had a nice bath before we picked him up and they cleaned his eyes. Above and beyond service!!! Take your pet there and enjoy your vacation knowing your furry friend is in great hands! Four Paws is not a kennel, but a doggy retreat. I too am a customer for life! read more

"He was very defensive of his business without provocation, which makes me wonder if they actually have something to be defensive and secretive about." This from a previous review hit the nail on the head! But here is my review. I want to write an honest review. This place upset me but without too much of my opinion I want to write the facts. The facts are I was staying for a 7 night stay in Destin and dropped my puppy off here. I was told business hours were from 8-5 Monday thru Friday and I was shown where my dog would be staying, and was told I could pick him up during the day as long as he was back by three. The day I chose to pick him up it was raining and after being out and about all day I wanted to spend time with my pup. I got there and the establishment was closed. No sign on the door or anything, and I hadn't received a call that they were closing early. I call and am told they closed early for today and that I would not be able to visit with my pup until the next day (This is at about 12:30 PM during normal business hours), and then quickly told, "but someone will be there at 3:30 PM to walk the dogs but you can't pick him up". This upset me but I decided to look in through the window just to see him and couldn't find him in the room that they had originally shown me that he would spend his time in. My Mom and sister were with me and found him in the grooming room. We noticed a wet puddle on the floor and poop as well. Owner said it was from an hour before, right after he had left, but regardless during business hours, this shouldn't have happened. And my dog was where he shouldn't have been, nowhere to lay down but the floor with water all over it. Who leaves a plastic bowl of water on the floor with a 4 month old pup and another dog? Of course it will fall over, why not use a container made for dogs to drink from? They should have had a container that couldn't be flipped Over so easily... He's a pup and adventurous... My mother called the owners and let them know how upset we were and we wished to remove Jaxon from their facilities. He had no toys, spilt water, no bed, poop on the floor, and not in the room that I was told that he would be in. When the owner did get there he was already defensive which upset my mother more, no apologies just excuses. He could have said he's sorry and shown us the video footage to prove his story rather than yell at us... He yelled at us to "Get out of his store" then when we did what he asked, HE CHASED us outside saying he was owed payment, (really? After you just yelled at two women to get out of your store?) After his 100% guarantee I couldn't pay him after he YELLED at me to get out and I felt like my puppy was mistreated. It just makes no sense. So then he yelled "get the f*** away" not once did my mother or I curse at him. He's completely unprofessional and I don't know how he owns these businesses with service like he provides. Everyone has an off day and this may have been one of them. But just a little rain, to me, isn't enough justification to shut down a business for the day and notify no one. And the owners' actions and responses should have been more professional. There is no excuse to treat people the way he did. Cursing! Really? I can't imagine how he treats the poor dogs! Then after he text me to say I was a crappy owner and if I posted a bad review we would have a posting war that he would win? Really? Just all so ridiculous. Sorry for the long review...
