Started my two chihuahuas there when we moved to Freeport from Miramar Beach in October. Nothing has ever been right. One time, I took one of them in and they said I brought the wrong dog. I showed them my phone message and they said they still needed to see the other. I told them if they had twenty minutes, I'd go home and exchange, which I did. They next appointment, they told me I wasn't on the books. Again, I showed them my phone. They said if I would wait, they'd work me in. I waited. The next visit, I forgot and never heard from them. They probably didn't even know. Now, I've been calling for several weeks and they wouldn't return my call. Finally, week before last, the receptionist did and promised to call me first thing Monday to book me an appointment for both dogs. By today, I was sufficiently worried enough about Coco to just get up and take her there. They refused me. The twit tech followed me to the parking lot to tell me they'd get me in this week, which I told him wasn't good enough. I call the receptionist the "B" word and the twit told me I was fired as a patient. As if I'd ever go back! TERRIBLE EXCUSE FOR A VET!!! read more

Never go there. They are not friendly at all. They are big time vaccine pushers. They will not see you if your vaccines are not up to date. My dog was sick, so I wanted to wait until she was better. They did allow that and I got her rabies vaccine next time I went in, as they stated on my call to have my dog seen, that they would only see me if I got the vaccine, My 6 pound, 15 year old dog hurt her leg jumping off my lap. I called to set up an appointment. The receptionist had "nothing" available for several weeks, suggested I go to an ER. I have diven past their office in the afternoon, after 5pm and no one (no cars) are in their parking lot. They have "no" exception to their normal schedule. I will never go back. read more

Horrible! we took our dog there several times wanting to find out what was wrong and every time the Vet at Best Friends gave a WRONG diagnosis! this went on for a while finally we took out pet to another vet that was able to help unfortunately by that time the damage had been done and couldn't be fixed so our poor fur baby had to be on daily pain meds and finally put down. Not only did the Vet at Best Friends wrongly diagnosis but when we kept bringing our pet in the Vet became rude and her staff was even more rude! What a horrible place and I would NEVER recommend them. read more

Their receptionist is horribly rude and unprofessional! She has no customer service skills and no manners on phone or in person. And what does that say about the Vet who allows her staff to treat her clients so ill-mannered and offensively impolite! It's bad enough you go there because you're pet is ill but then to be exposed to such discourtesy is just unacceptable! I have taken two dogs tobthis woman to be cremated. She was my parents neighbor for 15 years, and I thought she had some compassion. I brought my third dog down when he died 2 hours later, and she told me that she would not take my dog until I had paid her! it was only $150, and I did not have my credit card on me, She would not take care of my my dog until I paid her. My last 2 dogs I took to her for creamation I paid AFTER I picked them up. I did not have the money the day my baby pasted away! I had to call my mother to get her credit card so that I could pay ton keep my dog there for cremation!! I could not believe that she said that it was a new system, and for her to say that after 15 years in person was totally amazing! That is not compassion, that is only for money. SO SO very disappointing. after 15 years so stressful after your child dies! Would definitely NOT recommend. Only about the dollars now!!!!!!!? read more

Wendy didn't address the main issue of why we brought our cat in to see her. He continues to scratch and bite at his rear leg. Wendy did nothing about that but spent all her time harping and forcing us to get a rabies shot. Now the cat is super lethargic and is shedding an abnormal amount of hair. read more

Took my cat here March 2nd Dr Kempa is absolutely amazing. And her staff is absolutely wonderful great people and they truly do care about the animals that come there but also their owners they listen to your concerns and address them as they go. I was so pleased with the outcome of my visit that I will also be bringing my dog to her. Dr. Kempa taught me how to help my cat be more comfortable with coming in and out of a pet carrier and not want to hide out in it for his next visit to her. I have been working with him ever since, and her method has helped him to be more relaxed in a carrier and to come and go in it as he pleases. We took a dying rescued dog that had been ran over by a large work truck to this pet "doctor". The dog had been lying at death's door for days, hardly breathing and without the strength to lift her head. This "doctor" said the dog was "fine" and "there is nothing wrong with her". We immediately rushed her to another vet and where common sense, competency, and experience prevailed. She was immediately placed on oxygen and a competent analysis revealed that the dog's abdominal organs were shoved up into her chest cavity, she was septic, had had no oxygen, there was a hole in her diaphragm large enough to fit two human adult fists. The true "doctor" informed us that the with the critical state of her health, the severity of the injuries and extensive surgery required, there was a strong chance the pup might not even survive the surgery and the likelihood of her surviving beyond the surgery was slim. We opted to save her life and with the help of Destin Animal Clinic and the Niceville Pet ER, she survived and is thriving, but had we listened to Best Friends Pet Doctor, the dog would have died that very night. What kind of "doctor" would look at this dying dog and say, "she's fine"?!?!?! read more

The vet we've used for years instituted a new policy ... no humans in exam rooms and no time with the vet, only vet techs. We have six fuzzy butts who are not yard dogs. They are family, and I would not allow one of them alone in an exam room any more than I would allow my child to be in there alone. So I looked around and found the most amazing vet I've ever known in my entire and long life. Dr. Wendy Kempa spent time with me in the waiting room, asking questions about Toby, the one I took to see her, waited for him to come get to know her, and got to know him all the while asking many interesting questions. Now, Toby is a rat terrier, about 12 years old, with a really rotten case of arthritis in his hips, and he despises going to the vet. Not only was I allowed in the exam room, but Dr. Kempa, Alisa, Jan, and Paulette all were in there with him, taking care of him, loving on him, talking to him, not rushing, not scaring him, and when Dr. Kempa gave him his shots he never even quivered. Another thing that will make him try to take your hand off is trimming his nails. After being warned about that, they put the cutest little blue muzzle on him and he stood there like a little soldier at attention while they trimmed and then used an emery board on his nails. I was thunderstruck, and Dr. Kempa explained to me that once a dog's ability to bite has been removed, the dog relaxes. I never knew that. Toby and one other of our dogs are very frightened of thunder. Dr. Kempa explained to me that we needed to have "thunder parties" where when thunder booms, everyone makes a loud, happy noise, has a drink, and the scared pooches get a special treat they do not get at any other time. Storming here this morning, so I tried it and it worked like a charm. I literally cannot say enough good things about Dr. Kempa and her staff. They are, hands down, the best group of people I've ever trusted to take care of our animals. And if that weren't enough, their prices are lower than other vets in the area, and the meds and supplements they offer are priced even lower than online prices. I LOVE this place. Run, do not walk, to them if you have animals. You will not regret it. I promise. read more
