I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled here in October, which is something I've been putting off for 8 years due to anxiety about the procedure. I couldn't decide what scared me more, receiving anesthesia for the first time, or actually getting the teeth pulled! Anyways, suffice to say, this experience was a really big deal for me. Dr. Schafer was very sympathetic to my anxiety about the procedure and made sure that her staff did everything they could to make me comfortable, which I really appreciated. The actual procedure only took 30 minutes for me, and it seemed like it was over in an instant with the IV sedation. I was then sent on my way, and returned a week later to make sure my gums were healing properly. Looking back, I can't believe I made such a big deal about this, it was so easy here! Thanks for a quick, pleasant, and easy procedure, Dr. Schafer! Would definitely recommend getting your wisdom teeth removed here. read more

Just had my wisdom teeth pulled her back on Aug 9th. Surgery was painless for the most part, after meds were given through the IV, I don't remember anything until waking up in recovery. The dental assistants were nice the day of the surgery. That day I left surgery, I peeked into my mouth after the bleeding had stopped and noticed that there was not any stitches on the lower sockets. ( I was a dental assistant/ oral surgery assistant for 4years) I called to see why there wasn't sutures placed and the assistant was not kind to me on the phone. They were treating me like I was some kind of crazy person, and that I was over reacting. Anyway, a couple days later I got a wicked infection on the lowers. I got scheduled to be seen, but upon the phone call to the office they again, were treating me as if I was over reacting. And informed me they would see me " To put my mind at ease". At that appointment it was discovered I did indeed have an infection. ( don't understand how, I followed all the rules, used my medicated mouth wash as directed. ) anyway, I was put on antibiotics for 10 days. I took the full course of antibiotics, 4 days later the pain came back, I had ended up at my primary care doctor and brought it up to her. She informed me that she did still think the infection was there based on how I was feeling, and the looks. I was instructed to go back and see my oral surgeon, they were scrutinizing me on the phone before I could even explain the issue or they scheduled me. The doctor again treated me as if I was dumb, and made me feel like I was a criminal trying to get drugs when all I needed was her to check for infection. The assistants are rude, treat you as if you are a burden: and are only nice to you when they are getting $ from you. read more

I came in as a referral as my endodontist does not perform oral surgery. As I came into the office I was treated by a very friendly counter person. I signed in and gave them a cd rom of my full panoramic X-ray and included 2 different x-rays of the tooth I question. I was then taken back and pre exam performed by another very friendly assistant. I explained my issue and that I have an issue which requires sedation. Up until this point everything was pleasant. Then Dr. came in. No hello, no eye contact. She said she need an X-ray and I said that I just had one and brought it in. That I guess got her pretty angry. She sat me back in the chair and picked the tooth then said very sharply it's going to be over $1500 and you'll need some one to drive you. Then very rudely told the assistant get him on the schedule and left. I made the appointment but on the night before the surgery I got food poisoning and called to cancel. The person on the phone was pretty short and said well that will cost $100 for the exam. So, I scheduled elsewhere. It was very clear from the beginning this Dr isn't very nice, only cares about the money and treats patients and her assistants like they are below her. When I paid the bill I went into the office so that I could pick up my cd rom X-ray and the Dr made a special but totally unnecessary and passive aggressive trip to the front desks to point at my chart and say I don't want any responsibility for that one. Again, no acknowledgment of my presence. Pretty poor experience, just glad I didn't let her operate on me. Who knows if she would have been having a bad day I'd could have come away worse off. read more

I had some major complications after my oral surgery. Both of my child birth experiences were natural so I can handle pain. I would rather have babies then the pain I delt with after a hole was left in my sinus cavity. I lost 15lbs (the first week and 25lbs total in 6 weeks) and was in so much pain that I went in three times in the week following my surgery., to include driving my self the day after surgery. I left a message for the Doctor to give me a call reference the infection draining into my mouth and I never heard from her. To this day I have yet to hear from her. Fortunately, my regular dentist called to check in on me. I ended up in her chair for two hours trying to fix the dry socket ( I had no idea I had because the sinus pain was so bad) all she saw was bone. After 6 weeks of new antibiotics, migraines and infection draining into my mouth I ended up in the hospital. Only after a CAT scan we figured out what had happened. I was told that this can occur from the doctor but that she would fix it if it did and not to worry about it. I missed so much work and I'm still having health complications from this surgery. Never again. The office staff was very nice on the many occasions I called in those 6 weeks of trying to get the doctor to call me read more

Be very careful here. At the consultation appointment we were quoted $740.00 for the work. 2 weeks later when we came in for the surgery they said they made a mistake in calculating and the surgery was going to cost $1540, an increase of $800.00. They could have called us with this information but did not, instead, waiting until we came in for the surgery to tell us. read more

Dr. Schaeffer just called me right now at 7PM after closing hours to check to see that I was okay. Who does that?! She is sweet, easy and empathetic. Her and her staff made sure I was comfortable with the initial appointment as well as the surgery. I was actually looking forward to getting this done and over with! I told my husband that right after I had the IV I don't even remember closing my eyes, I just remembered them say they were done. Im having to change my review of Wheat Ridge Oral Surgery. 1st let me state that this change in review is NO REFLECTION on Dr. Schaeffer. I have been under her care for several years now and she has always been nothing but ultra professional, courteous, and accommodating. Until my last experience with Wheat Ridge, the entire staff was a pleasure to work with. But then... Recently I had a tooth abscess on me. My dentist wrote the script to have the tooth extracted and I call Wheat Ridge. I happen to call when Dr. Schaeffer was on vacation. Typically, Wheat Ridge takes the critical situation into consideration and books the very next available appointment. Not this time. The person who answered the phone was rude and dismissive and never bothered to offer the next available appt OR that they would call me if there were any cancellations OR "Hey, next Wednesday is the soonest available appointment... lets get you booked." I got none of the above. I asked if their office had another oral surgeon they could refer me (which many doctors do), and before I could finish my sentence... the person proclaimed "NO". I said I would look elsewhere, but call them back if I couldnt get in. The response I got was flip and short and (12 year old girl-ish) "What ever." It sadden and frustrates me to have found professional help, enjoyed it for years, and now its gone. I hope Dr. Schaeffer see a drop in client base and does something about it. Most unprofessional establishment that I have ever been to. 1st off the receptionist was too busy talking on a personal call check me in and another lady had to come from the back to do so. The the Hygienist was visably wearing dirty scrubs and kept talking about how she was so tired, yawning and rubbing her nose. Finally the consult started and the doc didn't even look in my mouth. I came here to have a couple of teeth extracted. I hate dentists, being at a dentists office is very upsetting for me, and I avoid them as much as possible. At this office, they were very nice and forgiving of my anxiety. The sedation went well and I was done before I knew it. If I need another extraction, I will come here. Dr. Schafer and staff were friendly, caring, and knowledgeable throughout the entire process of getting a dental implant. I felt like she listened to my concerns and we discussed cost/benefit of different options. I felt no pressure to choose the most expensive option. Awful, just plain awful, and very expensive. After an I.V sedation extraction, I suffered not 1, but 2 painful bone spurs. The first one was small enough for my regular dentist to remove, but she sent me back for the larger 2nd one. I fully expected to be charged for the first unit of sedation, but they charged me an additional $200 for a second one PLUS they charged me for and exam to tell me I had a (very obvious) piece of bone protruding from my gum. I'm never going back there. read more
