I don't write many reviews but after the great time we had last week I had to let everyone know they should def come and have John set you up with bikes ,or the surfboards. We rented both and I had quite a few kids with me and was hesitant to try to take them all bike riding by myself but not only did John get all the kids properly sized for their bikes he also had fun with them and told us not to be popping any wheelies which made the kids laugh . I felt assured the kids would be safe after he got them ready to go and gave them all instructions and I couldn't be more grateful for his help, I never could have done it without him, Thank you John! I am in complete shock that this place does not have 5 stars. We went on 3/24/21 and we had the best experience ever. Lonnie was working and he was so friendly and helpful! He helped us decide what would be best for us and was very knowledgeable on what trails to take. We are a military family and he took care of us. None of them were remarkable but there was some variety, and being able to ride without worrying about traffic is always nice. The bikes weren't in the greatest condition, but they worked. Was not open at posted open time. No one showed up to open the store until two hours later. It took another hour and a half for the guy to get the family bike out of their storage. He was very apologetic about the delay. He said that the person scheduled to open just didn't show up. Staff 8/10 Bikes 5/10 not kept in the best shape Phone service/info 2/10 do not relay on the information provided over their call line. If no one answers it means no one is there. You are a captive audience at this beach--no where else to rent--and will get an old rusted chain rickety beach cruiser, she rented last weekend. This location does not rent hybrid bikes with brakes. I rode behind her on my bike, and the rear tire wobbled, and the chain was so rusted squeaky loud that it sang a song. Brakes? What brakes? You need brakes? Just peddle backwards--and it still did not stop. Staff was friendly nice, but they required payment up front! My advice if you are thinking of renting here: BYOB: BRING YOUR OWN BIKE read more

If you can avoid it, DO NOT rent from this outfit. My husband and I were staying on the beach over July 4 and didn't want to have to drive to a bike rental shop in town. We were looking for a shop near us, so we could ride the bikes back when they were due. We showed up at 9a, when they are supposed to open, only to be told we'd need to come back in 30 mins b/c the young kid opening the shop had to find parking (lots were closed d/t COVID closings) and he needed more time to set up the bikes. We went back later in the day after much deliberation and decided to rent the Infinity geared bikes (additional $$) four 4 hours b/c we wanted to ride for awhile, planned to go up some hills, etc. and wanted bikes that could shift gears. Well, it was a complete waste of money. Of the 3 geared bikes that they had, 2 were broken. One had no front brakes and the other (we found out after choosing it) had a disconnected gearing mechanism, so the bike could not shift gears - the whole reason we rented those bikes. It turned out to be a single speed after all! In addition, the front wheel hub /cassette on my bike was loose, a serious safety issue that no one had checked before renting it out. The kid working the store had been left alone by the guy in charge, who also TOOK ALL THE TOOLS when he left. So, my husband had to look through what was left and fix my bike himself before we left. Then, as mentioned above, he spent most of his ride trying to reattach the shifting wire, so he could shift gears. See the pics below. Bottom line we spent more than $60 for 4 hours of bike riding, but we spent most of our time working on the bikes. This outfit does not check the bikes before they rent them, or fix them when they are broken. Again, serious safety issues from what appears to be a lazy outfit. Rent elsewhere if you can. read more

WARNING: If you want to rent a bike here, call to make sure that someone showed up and there are available bikes. Despite the recording when you call their number, no one was there after I walked 20 mins to rent a bike from them. I asked the cafe next door and they told me the workers there are unsupervised and show up when they feel like it. Owners apparently don't care and that's too bad as they have a captive audience on a beautiful California day. read more

Let's start with the good... They have a fun selection of bikes; we came to rent choppers, which is essentially an adult size be wheel. It brought back lots of childhood memories, and was a blast! Overall though, this business needs some TLC... Most importantly, these were the most rickety bikes I've seen in my whole big life! They appear to be taking the 'ride it til the wheels fall off' mentality seriously. Also I managed to hit several sharp edges on the bike, which either hurt (but thankfully did not cut) my hand, or snagged my clothes. The service wasn't exactly "wheel fun" either, but was just nice enough and got us on our way. read more

Disappointed all the way around. I don't often leave one star reviews and if I do it's because everything was wrong. We got there to rent a surrey and after giving my license and signing the agreement, I proceeded to pay. They struggled with connecting to their payment server and kept telling me they had internet issues. Once he finally got their system up and running I was told my card was not working and it was an issue with their machine. The gentleman proceeded to tell me that they always have issues with USAA debit cards and mine was not the first. We tried using my husband's card and still had issues. The guy asked me if I had another card and I said I preferred not to. I asked him if there was an atm nearby and he said he didn't know. At this point I was frustrated.. We had to deal with their macho not working twice. I finally pulled out my credit card and handed that to him at which point he struggled with as well. We final got it to work and we proceeded to rent out surrey. When we had deity do this I had envisioned riding this little bad boy along the coast enjoying the view of the ocean. Not being from the area I had no idea the area we were in was so limited. You are restricted to maybe a half or 3/4 mile of area to ride this and less than half of that is along the ocean. They gave us an hour for $35 but we went along the perimeter twice and it took 20 minutes.. In all honesty it was not worth the headache and hassle with with staff. I am writing this review because I really want everyone to know what they are getting into when renting here. read more

This is the worst ever bike rental experience. Ever! One of our bikes has a mechanical problem where the handle bars have collapsed during the ride. The guy at the bike rental place sent a friend over to see if he could fix the bike. He couldn't, but left to go to another friend's place to see if he can get the right tool[s]. In the mean time, we have been hanging out with the local color at a 7-Eleven for the better part of an hour. Fortunately, we are staying at the service oriented St. Regis Monarch Beach which is rescuing us with a driver and a Suburban. I'd give this place zero stars, if possible. I'd give the friend five stars for being a darned good friend to the zero guy at the bike rental place. And five stars for the St. Regis, of course. read more

So I got a groupon deal, 15bucks for 30bucks. So it gave us 1hour for the 4 sitter adult bike and two kids can sit in the front, SO IT'S THIS COOL LOOKING FAMILY BIKE! I took my parents, the hubby, and the baby... 1. Where to park? The rental is located inside the state beach, 14bucks... We didn't park there. Instead we parked to the public parking area, 1buck and hour, but you had to walk. There's no connecting trail from the public parking area to the rental place. 2. The trail? The bike is equipped with a built in map that tells you where to go... The trail? what trail? It's the street bike lane. Yes, my 1yr old is wearing a helmet, but I don't feel safe on the street with this bike, and THIS FAMILY BIKE IS WIDE! It will take up more than the required space of the bike lane. It's as wide as a golf cart. 3. The bike? The gears would slip as soon as my husband had to speed up because we saw a big hill in front of us... We ended up giving up. We went 3 times in front of the shoreline because that's all you can do. That took less than 10minutes. Gave the bike back to the rental place, and told them we were not happy, and will be requesting money back from Groupon. We did... I did buy 3 and good thing I got a refund. I know they have a branch at Miles Square Park in Fountain Valley, but that park has steep hills... I wouldn't feel safe to use it there. I would probably just rent these bikes at Newport Pier and stay on the designated bike trail. To make this experience better, a nice wider bike trail... =) read more

This place is a bit hard to find. It's located down by the boardwalk (actually concrete) right by the waterfront. You can pay $15 to use the regular beach parking or go next door and it's $1 an hour. They have 4 wheel, 6 person bikes as well as some smaller, single person, trike style bikes to ride around near the beach. The bike we had was not too well maintained - the crank was hard to turn and creaking something fierce. The pedal on the passenger side fell off twice during our hour long ride, and we had to limp it along to get back. Overall not the best experience, but it was pretty reasonably priced, hence two stars instead of one. read more
