We was at the nearby Olympic flame cauldron when we pooped down to the lower level parking lot to see the hank Aaron home run wall. We noticed this large mural and found it it was the wall for the old Atlanta Braves stadium. Very massive blue wall surrounding bubble parking spots for what appears to be Georgia state football games now. Overall interesting and unexpected find and piece of Atalanta sports history.

Not far from the Roswell Town Square and on the way to the Vickery Creek Trailhead, this marker…read morepoints out some of the early history of Roswell and its development that led to it becoming the small city that it is today. The marker is on the sidewalk and there isn't much parking in the immediate area. The marker has the same text on both sides. It reads, "Chattahoochee River water power caused Roswell King to establish a town here in 1837. He had a cotton mill in operation by 1839. By 1853 two cotton mills, a woolen mill, flour mill, and tannery were in operation, employing two hundred and fifty hands. In 1864, Sherman burned the mills, and skilled female operatives were sent north to deprive the south of their services. The mills were rebuilt after the war and have been in continuous operation." Weekends though SJ traffic is little lighter. Not today apparently. Doesn't help with semi truck drivers thinking they drive sports cars, a little lost out of staters, some who do everything but driving like texting, smoking, scolding their kids, whatever else and just some Aholes who think their time is more important than others' by cutting in. Yup it was rough travels to Duluth aka Ktown today on SJ for 1/2 hour on a Saturday afternoon!! It'll be a while to shake loose this trip. Peace.

Saute the onion, green onion and garlic. When the onions are clear. Stir in tomatoes, basil, oregano and sugar. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low. Simmer for about 20-25 minutes....

Marietta Confederate Cemetery…read more This cemetery was absolutely beautiful and taken care of. So many stories and monuments. We were very impressed! Marietta hosts both a national cemetery and a Confederate cemetery. The national cemetery contains around 10,000 Union soldiers, only 7,045 of whom are known, who died during the Atlanta campaign. The Confederate cemetery, established in 1863, is the largest of its kind in the state. It holds 3,000 soldiers who died in local hospitals, in combat during the Battle of Chickamauga or the Atlanta campaign, or in an 1863 train wreck that occurred north of Marietta. The separate cemeteries in Marietta were created because local civilians objected to enemies lying together in death. A prominent Marietta businessman, Henry Green Cole, sought a combined Confederate and Union cemetery, and donated land toward the project. When local officials objected, Cole gave the land to the federal government to be used for the burial of Union casualties only, and it was designated as such in 1866.

You will not find a "high end" museum but rather a charming small town feel with people that know their local history. Open only on Thursdays (1-4 p.m.) and Saturdays(11 a.m.-3 p.m.) You will have a much better time if you ask questions. A great place if you live in EP and want to spend some time learning the local history. They have a train on site and while it is locked in a fence, I found that if you ask they will gladly open the gate and the caboose and let you tour it. You can't beat it for the price...FREE! They do have a donation box and offer memberships but they don't seem to mind if you come and go as they are extremely friendly here.

I visited the small East Point Historical Society and Mr. Charles Strickland who was volunteering on a saturday. I mentioned my dissapointmetn at being unable to find the reference. In five miniutes he found a copy of the map with the informaiton I was looking for. A tremendous recource and all operated by volunteers!

You can park in the plaza to visit the sign. The Civil War had many battles and skirmishes here in Atlanta. This marker points out some of the local troop movements that took place during that time. The marker reads the same on both sides, "July 19, 1864. When it became apparent that a wide gap existed in Federal troop deployment along Peachtree Cr. between Peachtree Rd. & this, the old Williams Mill Rd., two divs. of Howard's 4th A. C. were sent S. E. from Buckhead to this vicinity to close the gap. Stanley's div. marched via the old Cheshire Bridge Rd., camping at the County Line. Wood's div. followed Stanley the next day. Both columns moving E. on the present LaVista Road turned S. here & crossed S. Fork Peachtree Cr. at Durand's Mill - a shift of troops incident to the Federal advance on Atlanta." Much happened in July 1864 and this marker calls attention to it. It reads, "A point in the intrenched line of the Federal 4th A.C., July 20-22, 1864. Stanley's & Wood's divs. marched to this sector from Buckhead via Old Cheshire Bridge Rd., LaVista, Williams Mill & Johnson Rds., crossing S. Fork of Peachtree Creek at Durand's Mill. These troops were shifted east from Peachtree Road to fill an interval between that road & the 23rd A.C. on Briarcliff. They faced the salient angle of Atlanta's outer defense line 1/4 mile south held by Stevenson's division, Cheatham's A.C. (CS). Early the 22d, Cheatham withdrew to the city; 4th & 23d A.C. troops advanced to the siege line at the Augustus Hurt house."
