Wheelskins used to be a good product. I bought one 10 years ago for a previous vehicle that went on and lasted perfectly. This latest one is pretty poorly made. Apparently the company has also been sold recently as well. A guy named "Jim" used to own it and was very responsive. Whoever the latest crew is doesn't respond to email at all and barely answers the phone. I tried calling today before writing this review and nobody answers. When I called to have the measurements revised a month ago somebody named "Lauren" answered the phone. Evidently it's hit or miss. They're more expensive and the craftsmanship has fallen off. Even with the correct measurements I'm still having to pull and stretch this thing and even use a shoe horn to get it on the steering wheel, so I'm not sure what's going on. I'm also ending up spending an additional $15 at my shoe cobbler to have him stitch the seams (per his suggestion) where Wheelskins has them GLUED ONLY. And speaking of glue, the glue is hard and flaky/crunchy and falls off with the least amount of pressure. It's not even good glue. It looks like the crunch around the rim of a raw honey jar as it ages. So now the $64 Wheelskins which was more expensive than the $50 I spent 10 years ago for the first one, is now almost $80 - to correct THEIR work. Not a good experience. Don't think I'll be reordering unless they fix their quality control and craftsmanship to previous standards. Not cool. Update: 8/8/22 Emailed the company and a gentleman named "Tony" responded with an offer to replace the cover. Took about 4 days to ship it out and another 4 to arrive. I had him add an extra quarter inch on the length and the width and for some reason it was still difficult getting it on but I got it on. Took me two and a half hours to install. I needed a multi-tool (to pull the needle thru the holes), an exacto knife (to create and punch thru some holes), a thimble (to protect from getting stuck with the needle) and lots of patience cuz some of the holes didn't line up correctly, but the finished product was worth the effort. I contacted customer service and we talked about it and within 10 minutes they offered to correct my issue by sending a new one. Folks, in this day and age where people are so nasty and customer service is practically non existent, this came to a surprise specifically the time it took to get a response. I emailed them back and let them know that they should know what size fits my vehicle. The product is ordered per vehicle with info you provide from drop down menus. After back and forth, I request a refund. No return label provided and I'm out $15.00 to send back the cover that doesn't fit my vehicle. Do not do business with this company!!! read more

Went to factory in Berkeley and was given excellent service. Someone came out with samples to match the steering wheel color and measure the size. They didn't have the right size and color in stock but they made it right there in less than 5 minutes. I took it home and had the cover stitched on within 45 minutes. Great place. read more

I've done 2 now . The first , years ago , was well made , straightforward to install , and durable in use . I was very pleased . So I bought another a week ago . Good quality leather , but badly made and an absolute NIGHTMARE to install . First the stiching holding it together unraveled , so I pulled-out the lacing , re-sewed the seam and started over . But now the edge-binding unglued , so I had to pinch each edge and probe for the binding-cord . And the lacing-holes hadn't been punched through both sides of the binding , so each stich took several tries . Hours wasted . I'm disgusted . read more

I have purchased here twice, and I was happy both times. This is as custom as it gets. Have used in 2008 Toyota Rav4 and in 2015 Subaru Crosstrek. They give samples of material free, if needed, which is great. Some advice, since I am a surgeon: match up the holes carefully and pull the leather thread pretty tightly; also consider a thin, well-placed, two-way tape under the area where the cover goes over the spokes, especially since most spokes are wide, so that it grips better when you use the "fake" throws of the thread (see instructions). I was so excited for this product & now I am beyond disappointed. It is lovely, with vibrant colors & quality leather, but it's not really "custom" the way they advertise. They ask for the make & model of your car, but I don't think they take that much into account when making this item, because it doesn't look made for my wheel (even if my wheel is standard for my car). It doesn't sit flush around the spokes & has this baggy look even when using dummy stitches. And on the topic of stitching, after spending an hour stitching the whole thing, I RUN OUT OF THREAD. I had about 5 stitches left to do. I watched the video, pulled everything as tight as humanly possible & STILL ran out. Would it have broken the bank to give extra thread to allow leeway for customers?? Now, I'm out the money I spent on this because I cannot return it. I wanted to support what I thought was a cool business but now I have to take the time & unstitch the whole thing, and buy another wheel cover off Amazon. Tragic. Maybe this will work better for someone else, but it's just left me frustrated and sad, and I unfortunately cannot recommend it. read more

This steering wheel cover is awesome. Love that you can make it whatever you want. I got the Red/Black (Top,bottom/Sides) and Perforated (sides) for my Dodge Charger. It looks and feels great. A few things to know that might help: 1. Def wear some kind of protection for your fingers, i chose athletic tape. You are gonna wanna really bulk it up. no joke. 2. They say pull tight, and you can. I was cranking on it as hard as i could, and it didn't have any trouble, nor did the leather even come close to tearing. You WILL NOT break or tear it. 3.*** To keep the seam in the center, i found it helpful to pull opposite directions every other stitch. ie, when you tighten the first stitch, pull it towards you as tight as you can, then the next one, pull it behind the steering wheel. If you go one way the whole time, the seam will start drifting off center.*** this might be the most helpful tip for you. 4. Def go for accuracy and not speed. It WILL take you more than 1 hour, unless you have done about 10 of them before. If you make a mistake, you have no choice but to go back and fix it. You WILL make mistakes, so be alert. Do your counting. 1 or 2 mistakes can cost you 30 minutes easy. 5. The black perforation makes it a bit difficult to see the stitch holes at times, so it might take you a little longer because of that. Just a heads up. Bought the Eurotone versions (Black/Beige) 3 years ago. $60 for a flat strip of leather with some heavy duty black thread and needle seemed like a lot. It takes awhile to install ... took me about 2 hours and my fingers were not happy, I used gloves (must do) but it takes a good amount of force and after an hour your fingers start cramping. You need to be careful to keep a constant tension for an even look. When done it looks good, around the spokes is the only problem area. The color was not a good match with the leather in my BMW 328. I liked the tactile feel and since I have large hands I also liked the increase in wheel diameter. My main complaint is the longevity. A little over a year later (10,000mi) the colored finish on the leather began to rub off at 10 & 2 my normal driving position. Pretty quickly I had hand sized raw leather spots with smaller blemishes in other areas. I followed the care instructions exactly. When I contacted customer service, they were polite but basically said "Thats too bad. We have more issues with the colored leather than the black" (my problem areas are in the beige color. I asked if there was any recourse, even a discounted rate on an all black cover but they would offer nothing. The covers now look ratty and tattered. Wow, this is a High Quality leather steering wheel cover! It's been on my wheel for two months. My base model 2011 Prius came with a fairly awful steering wheel (ok, I called it like sandpaper :) and grew tired of the rough texture. The Wheelskins arrived quickly in a nice box with instructions. I won't tell you how long it took me to lace the it cause I felt like working slow, but I'm so happy I did! I'm a rookie at lacing and it's a little bit bunched around one spoke, but I don't care cause the cover feels better than any other leather wrapped wheel I've felt. Some members on Priuschat are replacing their entire steering wheel, but won't catch me doing that. No need. I'm completely satisfied with my Black non-perforated Wheelskins steering wheel cover because it feels totally awesome in my hands. Best mod, hoo, hoo! In regards to lacing: Near the end, I pulled about 9 stitches back through to try to correct an area that seemed loose. I wouldn't do that again because it caused that section of lace to lose its wax and unwind. Maybe there's a way to rewax part of the cord. Next time I would be more careful to make sure the cord stays nicely waxed and looking good. No big deal overall, has nothing to do with Wheelskins quality. I can not be more pleased with the level of customer service from Wheelskins. I have a 2013 Nissan LEAF and ordered a 2 tone cover. I had issues with the upper portion fitting correctly because of the "thumb bumps" on the steering wheel. They replaced it no questions asked. Sent me a single color charcoal cover that is a special stretchy leather so it will fit better. I was prepared to order a new one and they gave me a replacement free and shipped it quick! I'm very happy with my new, non-perf wheel cover. It looks really good compared to any steering wheel cover I've seen, and feels very comfortable. My Toyota truck's wheel was trashed and $550 to replace, so this solves my problem for $65 shipped, and ninety minutes to install. The lacing is a nice appearance complement to the leather. The installation requires focus and brain, but not overly challenging as the product was sized exactly correct. Make sure you understand the lacing cartoon, and read the clear directions a couple times before beginning. It's a patient exercise, but kinda fun with a nice outcome. read more

A really great company! You have seen their website, so you know how great the steering wheel covers look. If you search youtube, you can see that they are also easy to install. If you have done a little research, you can see the pricing is very good. I have installed their Wheelskins Original in two of my vehicles, both look really great. So, what else do you really need to know about Wheelskins, the company??? You need to know how a company responds when something goes wrong. When you run into a problem, how that company responds makes all the difference in the world. I recently purchased a cover for my 2008 Toyota Tundra. I had installed one on another vehicle a couple of years ago and the installation was flawless. People thought I had a professional shop make and install it for me. I read the instructions, watched a youtube video, and did it myself. It took me about 45 minutes, but was actually very easy. Now back to my 2008 Tundra. I received the cover, had a tough time getting it to stretch over the steering wheel, and then could not get the cover to pull together properly. No matter how hard I tightened the strings, it just would not work. So I called the home office in Berkley, Ca, and the very nice and helpful customer service rep gave me some recommendations to try, and told me if it didn't work, to call her back. Unfortunately, the cover was just a little too small. And, I had chosen charcoal gray, but really needed black. I called her back and she asked me to verify some measurements for my steering wheel. It is 15.5" diameter, and the grip is 4.25", which is at the maximum for the size cover I purchased. She said not to worry, they would send out a special order size the very next day. And, I asked if I could change the color and she said no problem. The incorrect size was not my fault (I bought the recommended size C and that is what they sent). But the wrong color was my fault. I thought the contrast would go well with the interior of my truck, but I was wrong. The color was just like that shown on their website. Anyway, they sent me the black one, as requested. They didn't want the original one (which is perfectly fine, just didn't fit my vehicle) and didn't charge me any additional shipping charges. The replacement arrived 3 business days later and I installed it when I got home from work. Perfect fit and perfect color. But there was a problem. On the back side of the cover, at about the 2 o'clock position, the leather was tearing at several of the thread holes. So, I called them back, and ended up with a different customer service person. I wasn't sure what to expect, maybe I did something wrong on the install, maybe they would want me to purchase a replacement, etc. But again, no problem. I gave the customer service rep some information, and she sent me another replacement. No hassles, no additional costs. A different customer service representative, but the same friendly and helpful trouble free service. The Wheelskins website says, "As a Wheelskins customer, you can expect to receive consistently well made products, shipped on time, with universal customer satisfaction." I am completely satisfied, and highly recommend their products. read more

The leather material and sizing are fine. The holes in the leather stay strong, and so is the waxed cotton thread, so you can safely pull each stitch tight. BUT: be warned; Installation is very tedious and difficult to get just right, yet the factory instructions hardly hint at the issues around installation. The pre-punched holes are (too) small and inconspicuous, and as you proceed around the wheel you have to try to see or blindly find every hole on the hidden back side of the steer wheel cover. In my experience, it is near impossible to sew the cover so it is precisely symmetrical L to R, with the seam remaining at the same position all around the wheel, also keeping the leather over the spokes fully flat and symmetrical L to R. Twisting the cover to adjust it as you gradually secure it is especially hard if the steer wheel underneath has a soft surface, as that interferes with sliding the cover a bit for final fit. In short, (My Prus wheel has a soft cover.) it is very hard to do a good install, and it took much time. (I am a patient detail-oriented craftsman, with leather experience and tools.). At a minimum, have with you a thin scribe, awl or something similar to open and widen the holes before sewing, and a small needle-nose pliers to help push/pull the needle thru the holes. I ordered the wrong steering wheel size and had to return it. The quality looks good to me and I have no negative comments about it. I had to call customer service and she was very nice. The only thing negative is telling me to write in red "RTS"/Return to Sender on the package but the post office said that was wrong information. Once a package is opened you can not "RTS" on the package and the P.O. will not take it. I had to make a label to cover the entire label on the package and got stuck paying for the postage but that's okey.... read more
