They have a lot of Open Ended play and they offer some real cool opportunities to let your child explore their imagination. They have an Art room, a Animal exhibit room, a doctors office area that looks EXACTLY like a doctors office, an kitchen area built to look like a kitchen, a place to put on a play with stage lights and so much more. We loved the new changes so much we got a family season pass. This is not only the perfect place to bring kids on a weekend but a cool place for parties. They are a non-profit Childrens Museum but put ALOT of thought into making it more like an experience than anything else. Bring your kid (s) and you wont regret it. Just be aware though that parking is accessed from the street behind the museum so it might be confusing at first. Enjoy

From the lake and hiking trails to the numerous playgrounds and pavillions Winding trails offers a variety of options. Close to the interstate you would not know that while you are here. It was that serene and tranquil. My firm had our recent company you outing hee and had a wonderful time using the property for our "Olympic" competition. We were provided with shaded pavillions as a central eating/meeting location and equipment to use for sand volleyball kickball and a relay race (which included a canoe of ride around the lake). There were several other groups on the property but I never felt "on top of them" The grounds were clean and well kept with our plenty of garbage cans and recycling bins to dispose of our catered lunch from Bear's BBQ (which was as good as eating at their brick and motor store in Hartford). It also looked like there were individual families enjoying the property but I am not sure if Winding Trails offers a separate membership for that. If you are looking for a place to hold an event large or small, I highly recommend checking Winding Trails.

Although much of the complex is under renovation, it promises that once everything is completed in their five buildings, this place will be amazing. Ball & Socket Arts is transforming an abandoned industrial campus into an art and cultural destination with curated art, community meeting space, and a venue for music, theater and the humanities. They have a full schedule of upcoming art displays and workshops and have hosted free outdoor concerts for years. There was one free art exhibit on display when we visited called, "State of Alarm". It's a collection of textile works, wall reliefs, and prints that represent what their website describes as "the persistent climate of gun violence, war, and political instability shaping contemporary America". Pieces were collages made from spent bullets and shotgun shells, and one was made from hundreds of bullets fired into a piece of sheet metal. I thought the colors and patterns from those shells and bullets were transformed into some beautiful pieces. After our gallery visit, we strolled over to the Artsplace building for some ice cream at Sweet Claudes, then we walked to the other side of the complex to check out two awesome sculptures and a colorful mural. We ended our visit with a walk along the Cheshire section of the Farmington trail which runs behind the Ball & Socket property. I'm looking forward to a return visit when the renovations are completed. HISTORY Ball & Socket was a working factory for almost 150 years, from 1850 until 1992. Their products included metal buttons, and a slew of stamped metal products including jingle bells, cardholders, drawer pulls, fasteners, and razor parts. It was awesome to see a piece of public art that showcased some artifacts from their product line transformed into a sculpture.

They have a huge food pantry, there is an amazing well-stocked Community Closet, and you will see the many volunteers there helping the community! Please donate food and gently used or new clothing and other products here. They will take anything. It's easy to donate, they have plenty of parking in the back, there's an area to donate in the front with huge bins and food carts. I really enjoyed learning about their many programs, like making Easter baskets for kids, back to school packages, and so much more. They also provide financial assistance. The Community Closet smelled good, the items were clean. I highly recommend you visit this place for services or to help their cause. They have fundraisers. Check out the website. You can stop by weekdays from 8:30-4:30 to drop off clothes or food and other items. They provide services during these hours, but as the director said, she's even there working on the weekends to care for the community.
