I got my first haircut at Whiskers today. It was an excellent experience from making my appointment with Rina right thru the haircut with Alanna. My haircut of choice is a flat top which is very challenging for any barber / hairdresser. Alanna nailed it! She took her time and did a quality job. When I arrived for my appointment I was early and they offered me free coffee or beverages. Yes, it's slightly more expensive than other 'Fast Cuts', but well worth more than I paid. Had an appointment booked at nine in the morning for a medium skin fade, got frequent text reminders the day prior which I obviously didn't mind because I opted in for it. Then one hour before my appointment I got a text saying that my appointed barber was out for today and that I would have to reschedule. I understand that unexpected things happen, people get sick, or your dog threw up on the carpet. But I personally don't like how the negative outcome is burdened on the customer, a coupon or alternative barber would've been nice but it is what it is. Edited: Was able to be squeezed in last minute for 0900 same day by a different barber. The owner was super nice and the staff was very accommodating. High prices, did not meet expectations! The barbers need to be honest about what they are and aren't capable of/willing to do. Fades are ok-ish. Scissor cuts are offered but my two boys that requested longer scissor cuts ended up with very choppy cuts. I wish I had not paid for them because I will have to take them elsewhere to get them fixed. We basically wanted a trim but their hair will be VERY short now to make it look decent. read more

I trust Whiskers with my son's hair--it is the only place he will willingly go. He has really fine, but thick hair. A trimmer with guard will gap his hair-- he always needs a more traditional cut. My son needs a trip here every two weeks or so. He enjoys the beverage before his haircut, and he likes the feeling of personal attention. I don't know what they talk about while he is getting his cut, but it improves his outlook... he comes out a better person than he was when we walked back, and that matters a lot. The staff and the stylist are very professional and legitimately know how to cut hair and shave. Drinks are complementary. Sheesh, the front desk staff was extremely rude and condescending this evening, and I literally did nothing. Here's the story: It's been several yrs since I've been to Whiskers, but decided to give it a go since I was in a pinch and wanted to get a cut in before the weekend. I arrived 5 mins before the appointment to check-in with the front desk staff. Upon saying, "Hi, I've got an appointment at 6 w/ Emily" one of the girls, with just a bit too much heat and a haughty tone quipped, "Who are you?" while her face held an uncomfortable expression. I would compare it to the tone someone would use if a random passerby on the street approached you and offered unsolicited advice about your financial budgeting discipline. I thought, "Wow, turn down the charm, I'm a married man after all." So, I gave her my name and she queued up the stylist over the intercom. I was a little taken back by the warmth of this interaction, so I found a chair and waited for the stylist quietly - not wanting to draw the attention of such a vessel of warmth and light, because I'm leaving on vacation in a few days and I wouldn't want to get sunburned before I get there! Since you shouldn't leave without paying, after the haircut I went back to the desk to settle up. I managed to complete the transaction only by discerning the grunts and gestures from the ray of sunshine from earlier, as she chowed down on French fries and talked to the girls standing or sitting behind the desk. When she asked if I'd like to book my next appointment, I politely declined with a simple, "Not right now". To which she retorted, and this is an exact quote after about a 3 second pause, "Okay. Have a nice life." As I was walking toward the door, never to return, one of the other girls in her circle snickered, "Have a nice life?" I suppose I wasn't the only one that noticed and was uncomfortable with the casual arrogance. I got in my car, awash with the glow of goodwill and acceptance from the hangry hostess and headed East on 72. And as the sun shone in my rearview mirror I chuckled at the thought of the rays of sunshine behind me. The end. Don't go here. Showed up for my appointment and they couldn't find my name, phone number or email. When I told them the name of my hair stylist / barber, they said "Oh! She's not here anymore..." I told them I needed a haircut, and the other lady at the counter said she would take me after I tried to describe what kind of haircut I wanted. After my hair was cut, the stylist told me her next appointment was in the lobby and she didn't have time to give me my usual haircut. The manager had put me in for the "express" cut (after I showed up 15 minutes early). I'm thinking, why is that my problem? The manager could have finished my service as far as I was concerned! So Whiskers is a great barber shop. Brittany R. Is the best barber there and she knows how to cut hair. Her personality is amazing and I value her craft. I am going to give whiskers a 5 star only because the business establishment is top tier. The customer service almost always is perfect. I had one issue one time, where I had to change my hair appointment once and when I called back to confirm my time, the front desk gave me a lot of attitude saying they will have to take my card on file because I altered my appointment twice when I only changed my time once. That left a bad taste in my mouth, so for the longest time I used a different name to be able to book appointments, which I shouldn't have to do honestly. Again this was one occasion. Overall the experience is a 5 star experience, to the free coffee, soda, water, and extras. The hot towel is a nice touch, and the neck shave with a real blade makes you feel you are getting your money's worth. I like this place a lot and it is the best barber shop in town. In the door you are greeted with a menu of services and offered a cold drink: water, soda, beer? The services offered are wide ranging, even to a straight razor shave (of face OR head). Be sure to let them know if you are active or prior service: they offer a discounted package for either, as well as police or firefighters. I liked Whiskers for my step son. He needed a cut and shave before a big event and they hooked him up. He felt like a "rock star" with a cold beer and the all-female staff. The only drawback was a slip up with the straight razor cut that nicked his neck, poor kid. The lady who gave him the shave felt awfully about it and did deduct from the price to cover for the "boo boo." They gave my step son some type of rewards, or discounted card for a return visit, but due to the neck nick, he ended up going elsewhere. I went to Whiskers twice and had decent hair cut experiences both times. The barbers were always friendly and I went home fairly happy with my haircut. I would leave a 3-4 star review if there weren't any red flags. The real concern is that I had to wait 10 minutes the first appointment and 30 minutes the second appointment. I understand appointments may run late but they need to account for this and fix the booking schedule so this doesn't continue to happen. For my third appointment, I was running late from work so I was only 6 minutes late to my neck trim and they cancelled my appointment before I even got there! I tried calling to kindly explain I was late but I was pulling into the parking lot and my appointment was already canceled. No phone call or anything to see if I'm coming. The inconsistency between the barbers running very late and then demanding a customer arrives on the dot is extremely frustrating and unprofessional. I won't waste a single penny or second of my day at this establishment and I will be happy to take my business elsewhere. read more

I've been to whiskers about 5 times so far and have had a haircut with about 4 different stylists. I haven't had a single one give me a bad haircut. Also the complimentary adult beverage is a pretty incredible idea. Chug a beer then get a scalp massage with a hot towel, then a neck massage and it becomes sleepy time. Super relaxing. I recently had to get a haircut while out of town and decided to try one of those "sport clips"places and it really made me appreciate whiskers even more. Straight up butchered my hair. At whiskers I can tell them to cut my hair however and trust they know what they are doing.... a sport clips in NJ..... not so much. I have tried three separate times over the last 9 months to call ahead and see if there is an opening that day. I never get someone to pick up, so when I drive over to ask if they have availability, the answer is that they are booked up for days or weeks to come. As a busy professional, I can't schedule appointments for my haircut. So when a place says "walk-ins welcome" I have the expectation that they will have an opening or a barber that does walk in only that day. This place looks great and obviously stays busy because of it, but they need to be honest and say they don't really have the ability for you to walk in. I can't say I plan on trying again. read more
