It's funny, in 2017 we were on a group M/C ride and drove into town looking for a good place to spend the night. We saw this place and we took 3 rooms. This week, 2023, I was riding solo and wanted to make reservations. I saw the reviews for "Whispering Palms" and booked one night. Once I arrived, I realized this was the place we had stayed at on our last trip a few years ago through Del Rio. It's clean, the staff was friendly. The free breakfast was nothing to write home about but it hit the spot. It's a locally owned place, not a chain. It appears to be more of a blue-collar place. Clean and comfortable, this hotel is. I stayed here for an extended period of time recently and can attest that all of the favorable reviews are well-earned. Most of the clientele are working people in the area working on various projects. It's a quiet place, the beds are comfortable, it's in a good safe location, and the owners live on the premises. The owners see to it that the accommodations are kept clean and in good repair. Of note - the towels are fluffier than one normally finds at hotels, and that's a plus. The wifi is about average for a hotel, not as good as you may have at home but still quite functional. Breakfast is the usual hotel staples of waffles and cereal, and plenty of good coffee. Be sure to stop by the lobby and pet Zoe, the owner's Blue Healer. Also, on occasion, there is an adorable African Grey parrot, LarryByrd visiting the lobby. Very clean rooms. Nice and friendly young man at check-in. Newly remodeled. Giving a 3 because the towels were like sandpaper and the continental breakfast was pre-packaged mini-cakes, cold cereal and toast; bananas were the only fruit. Interesting artwork. (Would be cool if they were for sale!) Once they fix up the patio with seating, it'll be a nice place to sit outside. I would stay here again for sure though. read more

After a very scary night down the street this place was a very pleasant surprise. Everything was clean, the employees are extremely nice. I felt very safe and the front desk person was charming and even asked if I was okay with the dog before letting them lose. If I'm ever in Del Rio I'll stay here again. I'm convinced many of the reviews posted here are bogus. I actually reported that one was a duplicate, even though the postings were two years apart and remarkably the more recent one was changed. So that. ... The reality; The inn has little street appeal but the rooms are definitely clean. The mattresses are cheap and extremely hard. The towels are coarse and very rough. The grounds are very noisy at night and when the owner is on duty, complaints get the noise calmed down. When his young employee is, not quite the same results. The in room phones don't work. The locks are outdated and not extremely secure. There is no website and apparently no real booking system. When I checked in, they actually gave me keys to an occupied room! After complaining about noise on the second night of a 4 night stay, I noticed my card had been charged for the full 4 nights (not common practice nor what had been agreed to.). This is a budget motel and you get what you pay for. I cannot recommend it if you can afford better. read more

This is not a fancy hotel and the pool was small. However, the service was excellent. The owners are very nice and personable. If you are looking to support locally owned businesses, patronizing the Whispering Palms would be a great way to do that. read more

I am convinced that all the reviews claiming this hotel is amazing are ABSOLUTELY FAKE!! The pool was green. The carpets filthy. The beds hard and sheets stained. Cockroaches in the breakfast room. We spent Father's Day in Del Rio, TX and made reservations at Whispering Palms Motel for our overnight stay. In addition to the reasonable room rate, we were so pleased with the quality of room and getting to know the owner, Bob and his sons. We will definitely be staying there again when we come to visit family. Highly recommend this business. read more

The whispering palms ruled! My girlfriend and I stayed there for a night while driving across the country, and we were so pleased to be greeted by a super friendly front desk person. They could tell we were dusty and sun baked and they gave us bottles of cold water upon arrival. The room was spacious and very clean, and the whole motel seemed to be very new. The television was a good quality newish flat screen, the bathroom was clean, and literally our only complaint was that there wasn't a light in the shower. We went out for a dip in the pool and the owner came out and cleaned the leaves before we jumped in. Bob. He was super friendly as well, and told us where to get a good steak in town. We were scared of small town Texas but everyone in Del Rio was very nice, and the whispering palms was actually a joy to come back to. read more

I got in close to midnight and since no restaurants were open, the owner Bob Kapoor actually cooked me a delicious meal! Pretty unbelievable hospitality. He had great stories about his time in Tanzania and Kenya. On a previous visit, Bob's son helped me for an hour at 3 AM to scan and email a bunch of documents I needed to send. This is not The Four Seasons, but the rooms are clean and comfortable and these guys really take pride in providing a friendly way-station. This is my first Yelp review ever... Safe, Clean, Fancy & Budget friendly. A compassionate owner & staff who care about your safety and well-being. If you want to see your dollar go further; I would pass by the usual la Quinta and holiday inns and take your business to people who appreciate it. I am happy that I did, the quality is definitely on par with a handful of high-end franchise based hotels. Yet the price is just shy of what you would pay at a shabby lil Motel 6. Don't just throw away your money to some big name hotel chain that could care less about the world and the people in it. Reservations waived the fee I otherwise would have been charged. If I ever find myself in this small town again I'll be sure to stay here before going anywhere else. Stayed one night in Del Rio on way to Big Bend in January. Great place, the owner and family care about the guests, it is clean and quiet and maintained, includes a decent continental breakfast with Texas-shaped waffles. We asked questions about the town and area and they provided good information. In summary, in Del Rio skip the chain motels and try this one. read more

I am very disappointed with how they handled charging our stay. A relative paid for our stay and their card was charged. The hotel claims it was not despite me watching while they fed the numbers and info into the system and generating a receipt. Our card was also charged. We were never refunded. The receipt we were given has no card information on it like the last four digits, the issuer or the name on the card used. This was our second stay at Whispering Palms Inn and last. Clean, quiet, priced well, convenient location, and very friendly staff. My parents were staying here for over a month and I visited for one weekend. Bob the owner is great, so are the staff. I was on a cycle tour across the States at the time, so it was nice to get some R and R. Affordable, good wifi (I had a video call for a job interview back in New Zealand, reception was great) plus decent breakfast. I would highly recommend this motel to anyone! We were very pleased with our stay. The rooms were clean and much nicer than any other motel we've stayed at in this price range. They even have a complimentary breakfast. The guy at the front desk, who is apparently the owner's son, was very pleasant. He offered us cold waters and showed us all the interesting art work in the lobby, even at the late hour we arrived. My partner and I decided to extend our trip to Big Bend by road-tripping through southwest Texas on our way back to Dallas. We stopped in Del Rio and needed to find a hotel just to crash in for the night (i.e., clean, comfortable, but not pricey). We found the Whispering Palms online through Trivago and decided to give it a shot, and it definitely exceed our expectations. It looked like they had maybe just completed some renovations, because the structure seemed like a retro motor lodge, but the lobby interior was modern/artsy and the rooms were definitely updated to include all the amenities you might need. I was particularly impressed by the shower and comfortable beds. The people running the place (owners? managers?) were extremely nice and very helpful - even providing us with a bag of ice since the ice machines weren't working well (they helped up fill our coolers). If I am ever in Del Rio again, I would definitely stay here. read more
