It definitely leans toward the grotesque which makes for an interesting browsing experience. Creepy dolls, haunted masks, odd surrealist art, a lot of funky religious pieces. In regards to art, the prices seemed to be on the higher end although there is quite a bit of variety (a few hundred here, a few thousand there). I mostly focused on the art but if you're interested in smaller things, I'm sure you can find cheaper items. I did question some of the pricing -- there was a small dinosaur painting for over 3K! We were told it came from a children's museum. Seemed a bit steep nonetheless. I personally prefer to dig around small antique shops and score treasures for a low price. It's part of my North Loop Jaunt where I hit up all my fave places in the neighborhood every few months or so. Prior to relocating, I'd visit Austin twice a year and always made time to stop in. This is one of the most inspiring and well laid out vintage stores ever. You can just get lost for hours. So many ideas for home decor and styling. They've always got a grand selection of MCM (Mid-Century Modern) furniture and accessories. My house is 99% MCM. They've really just got the best collection of everything. Trinkets, knickknacks, patches, light fixtures, dishes, mirrors, art, clothing, records, jewelry...you get my drift. Service is so super friendly and welcoming. I am particularly fond of the pro-trans sign in the entrance window!! Everything they carry is in very good to pristine condition and pricing is reflective. I had a feeling it probably wasn't going to be my kind of shop, and I turned out to be right--but that's not a knock on the store. If you're looking for unique vintage, antique, mid-century modern, or just plain unusual pieces, you'll probably have a great time browsing. Just don't go expecting thrift store prices. Everything is priced much closer to full market value, so this is more of a vintage boutique than a thrift store. I originally stopped in because I'd seen photos online of some beautiful vintage glassware and hoped to find something to add to my collection. Kevin explained to me that he rearranges his shop pretty often (he cheekily calls the practice "funk shui") to get people's eyes on different items every time they come in. He tends to get his wares from estate sales, auctions, and considers himself a treasure hunter. And I must agree! Lots of treasures in Far Out, and I loved sifting through them. If you make your way in, you'll likely hear from Kevin that he's open to negotiation and bundling items for reasonable deals. He seems just to be genuinely excited to find cool items and give them new homes. And I appreciate that energy a lot. I came in looking, loosely, for some home decor as my husband and I outfit our home after moving back to Texas from Georgia. But nothing felt quite right on the decor side. A couple interesting pieces but nothing that really stood out. Almost bought a wooden wall hanging but then realized it was Hobby Lobby. There was ample space in the aisles to bring my toddler in a stroller (had my baby in a front carrier). There is a bathroom for customers. Just when you thought you'd seen everything inside, there's a door that leads to the back which leads you into another large space that is non-air conditioned. My husband and I ended up chatting with Danny, who runs the shop, and we could have stayed there talking for hours. He was so welcoming and had so many great stories about the local area, the growth around Buda, and of course all the amazing nostalgia pieces packed inside the store. The shop itself is awesome. You can tell Danny and his wife (who we didn't get the pleasure of meeting) puts a lot of heart and care into curating everything. It's the kind of place where you find little treasures tucked into every corner. From vintage shirts to classic antiques, everything has a story behind it. We honestly went in because of a t-shirt, but left feeling like we got a little glimpse into Buda's past too. Definitely a must-stop if you're in the area. Ordered them to put down all the toys and not touching anything any more. After that, my kids were getting terrified literally and refused to enter any store on that street. The chandelier we had purchased in Denver turned out to be too small to fit the space for which it was intended. So I searched online and found a chandelier that The Antique Swan had advertised on line. It looked like a perfect fit. We called and spoke initially to Ann, the owner, who is the nicest person and knows so much about antiques. Turns out my chandelier was purchased by Ann on one of her annual trips through Europe where she scours the countryside looking for interesting pieces to ship home to her store. It is cool to get a first person story of where your purchase came from. My chandelier came from an estate near Stratford on Avon in the UK. I can't say enough about how helpful Eric was in getting the chandelier to us in a hurry. We had them pack and ship it to us sight unseen. It got to us in 2 days and each piece of crystal was individually bubble wrapped. It was exactly as advertised if not better. I highly recommend The Antique Swan.

They give cash or credit for things they'll buy from folks. As with most stores like this, you'll get more in store credit for your stuff. Fun fact: they've also got a location in Waco.

In my case, I walked out with a pair of vintage shoes in excellent condition for only $5, plus several beautiful glass pieces for next to nothing. I'd call that a successful trip! When I drove by on Sunday, they had boxes and boxes of free items out front with people happily digging through them. It was way too hot for me to join the hunt, but once the Texas weather cools off, I definitely will. The crowd was pretty small, and some decent deals were to be had later in the day if you asked. Overall, there was a high clothing to other things ratio on this particular weekend. I bought a pink maxi tule skirt, a pair of possibly too low rise lightweight pants, and 2 necklaces. My kid bought a pair of shorts, a sweater vest, a small fish pin, a CD, and an embroidery art piece. I had fun and I'd go back.
