Devour does any type of function from casual birthday parties to fancy weddings. They supply each of their dishes based on your choices and what the general crowd would like at the gathering. The food is always made fresh for each person, so you know it is quality. The dishes they serve are a little different but still elegant and creative. It's interesting to try something different from time-to-time. I recently participated in a work function where Devour was the Catering service and I was very pleased with the outcome. The staff is professional, the food was quick and delicious, and the service was fantastic! Devour Catering is definitely one catering company I would use again. We had hoped they would accommodate a tiny wedding, and they did not disappoint. Everything from the first email, to the subsequent visits, has been over the top amazing. I had considered waiting to write this until our event was completed, but honestly, you neeed to know about this place. It is so posh and perfect, everyone who works there is on fire to make your experience amazing. Entering the gate into the estate sets the tone for the experience you are about to have. We came to tour the estate, brilliant experience, they have every single tiny detail perfected. Our engagement photos followed by some drinks in the beautiful Opal dining room? The photos are stunning, and we were so touched that a server we had not met yet congratulated us on our upcoming wedding. We are probably not this venue's typical clientele, but we have been treated like royalty since our very first contact. If you are ever so lucky as to have the chance to work with Trevor, jump on that opportunity. He is so amazing at what he does and takes care of all the little details you might not have even considered, which just adds to the magic of this place. I used to come once a year or so for a corporate town hall, but my current company holds a speaker series here pretty much once a month. Getting to the Metropolitan Centre is easy by foot - there's an entrance on the +15 level and ground level to outside. Parking is like any other parking downtown, so we won't dwell on that. There are multiple sizes of rooms, from a boardroom table of 12 very comfortable chairs with an awesome view of downtown, to rooms that seat 500+. In terms of catering, I've only ever had the sandwiches, but they're really good and the catering staff can tell you exactly what's in them, which impresses the heck out of me considering some of the service you get nowadays. And the cookies are legendary. Let's leave it at that. The staff is also very accommodating - they have no issues pulling in extra chairs if you exceed what you've got available, and once I had opted to stand at the back instead of taking up a chair and they brought one just for me. We were bullied by Simply Elegant in to cancelling our contract. We have our event booked at…read moreWaterfront Parks (original venue at Skyline which apparently closed according to Simply Elegant) for July 2021 and they told us around 20 days before our event that there was a scheduling conflict so we cannot have the venue anymore on the date that we're suppose to have our event. They offered us a refund of the venue cost if we move our date, or move us to Venue 308 or Brownstone but with no compensation for the trouble, or full refund to cancel our event. We don't understand how they can double book the venue and choose to kick us out instead. Either they accidentally double booked or a bigger client wanted our date so Simply Elegant chose to boot us out, which was a clear breach of contract. We wanted a refund before (even just 75% of our money back) but they won't let us which I understood because we signed a contract but we asked them anyway just in case they will allow it. But for them to spring the news to us that we will not get the Waterfront Park venue 20 days before our event was so shady. They told us that there was a conflict with the Shriners which was a lie because we checked the Shriners website and they do not have an event at that venue on our date. We were left scrambling and we felt cheated and bullied by this company. We would be okay with them moving us to a different venue if they would just refund us the venue cost but they did not budge. They didn't even try to meet us halfway, they did not want to negotiate. We were suppose to have a skyline view, then they moved us to Waterfront Park which would have given us a lake view (so comparable to our original venue), but now they wanted to move us to another venue with no view - so we felt they should at least compensate us. Changing our date was not an option given how late it is already for us to ask our other vendors and our guests if they can work with that. We chose to support them during the pandemic but as soon as everything opened up, they chose to screw us over. I am 6 months pregnant and the emotional distress they have put me through is unbelievable - especially for a company that is supposed to be a champion in hospitality and client service. We decided to deal directly with the venue that they were going to move us to as I couldn't imagine them still holding our event after how they treated us. As soon as I told them that we would opt for the full refund (after us trying to negotiate and them not making any counteroffers), they told me that they will mail me the cheque - knowing full well that we need the money right away so we can pay the new venue and new caterer. There was no sense of urgency on their end. When we paid them they were etransferred so they received our money instantly, and for the refund they wanted to just mail the cheque. We ended up picking up the cheque and that's how our relationship with them ended. They're probably just going to delete this review....

I call it a community hall because calling it the Varsity community building just doesn't have the same feel to it. If you're from a small town, the hall itself isn't so much what you'd expect. See, where I grew up, the community hall was a one room deal with a stage at the end. This one's got a multitude of rooms in different shapes and sizes that are used for a variety of different things (dance classes, Girl Guides and even a playschool). The hall is great (and cheap) for small group kind of rentals. Unlike your small town hall (big hall for the small town rather than the other way around), I don't think you'll want to be catering any big weddings here. But with a playground right outside, some field space, and easy accessibility just off Shaganappi Trail, you've got a solid venue for your event(s).

We had our daughter's wedding there this past weekend (August 2nd), and held the ceremony on the patio. It was perfect and the setting is breathtaking. The staff are absolutely amazing and very accommodating. There are round tables and chairs that seat 200 included with rental of the facility. The kitchen is large and can accommodate professional catering. We rented the hall for both Friday evening and all day Saturday and it was very reasonable. Check this place out and visualize all the possibilities you can for your wedding here. BTW, I've also used this facility for a children's Christmas party for a non profit organization and had the same wonderful experience!

The food was good and some things were just ok. Things like veggies, mixed salad, chicken skewers all in small portions however the small bite size desserts were great. Everything from mini tarts, squares and cookies. As for the service, since all the food was self-serve and I didn't see any person, I didn't experience any service except when I went to the bar to buy a drink.
