After taking in the sights, we came across this place as we were heading back to our hotel. It a nice spot and in a convenient spot. There is plenty of bar space and some tables inside as well as outside. The staff was super nice and got us a table inside and were quick to get us menus and drinks started. We ended up getting the haddock and chips. It came a small side of green peas. Though this wasn't the best fish and chips it definitely pleased out appetite and theb portion size was great! Our friends tried the Steak Shin & Bushops Finger and were very pleased with their meal. There is a good amount of beers to choose from so there shouldn't be any issues quenching your thirst. We were in a cider mood so opted for that instead of a draft beer. The service and hospitality of the people here is really what made us enjoy this place. We stopped in for a quick pint and ended up enjoying our evening here. It's such a quaint and clean pub and the bar folk are super friendly and make great recommendations. The good was great- the cheese and apple chutney sandwich hit the spot, the salt and vinegar wings were delicious and so were the onion rings! Nice British Pub near Westminster. We stopped in for fish and chips and this place felt quite authentically British (we looked like the American tourists we are :) The menu is pretty traditional pub food -we got the fish and chips. It came with a cup of peas and a different kind of tartar sauce (possibly tomatoes in there?) The fish was truly excellent. Light and flaky - delicious. There was malt vinegar for your fries, and they even had Heinken 0 for us none beer drinkers who still want to fit in in a pub. read more

I stayed at the White Horse and Bower in 1966 when I was 12 years old, and again three years later. My aunt Mag and Uncle Joe managed the place at the time and lived in the upper floors. I remember them working long, long hours - from early in the morning until after it closed. I enjoyed playing on the large snooker table that was in the Monk St. side during off hours. And pilfering bags of Smith's Crisps from the bar. Freddie Garrity (Freddie and the Dreamers) and Patrick Macnee (The Avengers) had been guests. I am glad to see it is still there. If I ever get back to London I will definitely drop in. read more

Delicious fish and chips, and great service! This place was near by the hotel I was staying at and was my first stop after getting to London. The bartenders were very nice, my family and I had a great time. There is nothing bad I can say about this place and it felt like the kind of family pub you see in movies. After a lovely 9 hour flight to London (yay, pills!), we found ourselves famished and wanting a bite somewhere within walking distance from our hotel so we could explore the area. This was the perfect place. It has quintessential British pub curb appeal and a laid back vibe inside. It was early afternoon on a weekday, so really easy to snag an open spot. We took a table near the window for prime people watching and ordered ciders at the bar. The menu is small and consists of sandwiches, burgers, mains, and small bites. Both my friend and my husband ordered the fish and chips, but I'm not a seafood enthusiast so I opted for their chicken club instead. I did try approximately one bite though (when in London right?) and admit that it was very good. The batter was light and crunchy, and the cod didn't have an overly fishy taste. The side of peas were my favorite part because they were plump and fresh; not the mashed version you think of that normally comes alongside that dish. My sandwich was only okay. The chicken was bland and the bread dry, but I enjoyed the avocado and crispy bacon. The chips however are excellent. I love how thickly they are cut, and that they were already nicely salted. I was sad that I didn't notice the beer battered onion rings until later because I bet they are killer here! While this meal wasn't my favorite of the trip, if you are looking for an authentic London fish and chips experience then I think you will thoroughly enjoy it here. If nothing else come for a pint and those onion rings, then report back and tell me how they were ;-) read more

Texan experience here: Immediately walked in to a nice air conditioned pub, was greeted by nice workers and a pleasant bartender. Sat close to the back of the pub near the kitchen and a dartboard. Not a very busy place, not super loud either. Ordered a burger with chips and some onion rings and was completely blown away. Better than any burger I've had in the US, and the chips were absolutely fantastic. Not a beer drinker either, but some very nice and tasty beer selections behind the counter. Overall very pleasant and would DEFINITELY come back on another London visit. read more

Our cabbie helped us find this place. It was early in the evening and wasn't too busy. We both ordered the fish and chips. The fish was the biggest portion of meat I'd ever seen used for fish and chips. They were hand battered and fried to perfection. The sides were delicious too (the cold peas were good but not something I'm used to having paired with this). The atmosphere was what you'd expect for a pub. We ordered at the bar and the food was served to our table. Service was friendly and the food came in a good amount of time. I would recommend this place to any in the area. As a bonus we got there right at the end of the Ireland v France rugby match which brought some serious excitement to an Irishman in the pub near our table. So that was fun to chat with him about his love for the game. read more

Great pub in London. We wandered for a drink and a bite to eat and weren't disappointed. I had sausages with mashed potatoes and my wife had a chicken sandwich. Both meals were quite nice. Found this place on yelp after writing my review for The Speaker down the street and am so glad I wandered over. After a not so good experience at the prior place, White Horse & Bower saved the night! Friendly service and good drinks is all I ask for when I walk into a bar. Literally just acknowledging that I'm a customer is good customer service to me at busy places like this. I put in my order and the bartender asked me if I wanted a single or a double and my night immediately got better. I felt like I was at the neighborhood bar at home and that's the best thing when you're in a foreign place. Drinks made the way you want them and the best customer service I've experienced in London so far- visit this establishment if you're looking for a place to go for good drinks and a pleasant evening. read more

A must go if visiting London or a local. We were visiting London and stopped here to eat several times because we enjoyed the food. In London for a bunch of meetings, we hadn't really planned where to go during the day but rather left it to location chance. After finding the office we needed to be at - and with an hour to spare before our appointment - we nipped into the White Horse & Bower to action plan and enjoy a swift half. Both interior and exterior are very traditional 'pub'; lots of dark wood, a slightly obscure layout, and plenty of mismatched furniture. It was very comfortable and relaxed with no sense of only being for locals. It's very well located as well, with the Pimlico tube station only a 10-15 minute walk away. We all enjoyed a Whistable Pale, at £6 for 3 halves and double that for pints. They had an okay selection of beers but nothing to write home about. An awesome taste of British popular Fish & Chips. Unlike fish & chips in the states, they add minimal salt and spices. They call their fries "chips" and is a very great to stop by when you're on the go in the city. For 8.50 pounds, that translates to under $14 USD. Portions are huge and great to feed two people! My friend order the sandwich and ate it, however it was not too memorable. They have seats inside and chairs and tables outside. Great place to relax and plan on what to do next. =] read more

A Shepherd Neame pub and a favourite with local civil servants, serving Oranjeboom beers amongst others. Fairly comfortable space even when crowded. Good atmosphere. Not a great deal of food served in the evening. Visited yesterday (22 Jan) and only homemade burgers on offer - sounds interesting. Live music on Friday evenings, it would seem. read more

I was sorely disappointed in the White Horse & Bower after reading all the great reviews. Firstly, the positive points - the pub was clean and the drink selection was nice, with a variety of beers and ciders. However, this establishment was lacking in the food and service category. The burger was hard and crunchy, while the club sandwich was bland, almost as if the chicken was boiled. None of the wait staff was concerned with how we were enjoying our food, or asked if we needed anything else. In short, great if you fancy a mid day pint, but not if you're hungry. read more

We stopped in for a pint and an early dinner/late lunch after arriving in London. We were greeted with excellent service and the food and cider were phenomenal! I had the fish and chips which was very nicely cooked, piping hot, and the batter was perfect! Another at the table had the beef stew in pastry which was amazing too!
