Shop local, organic, and eco-friendly! I was looking for an eco-friendly, organic pillow and I found it at White Lotus Home. I bought a Medium Standard Kapok pillow. I had it customized with a zipper so that I can remove/add fibers to suit my needs. I've been sleeping on it for a few weeks now and I love it! I haven't had neck pain at all and I've had pleasant dreams. The sales associate, Elizabeth (I think) was really nice and helpful. They sell eco-friendly mattresses, sheets, bed frames, nightstands, pillows, blankets, and throw pillows. They do all their sewing on premise; mostly handmade stuff! I lounge about on what they call a Boulder Mattress--it's actually a super-dense futon with double the tuftings (and who can't use super-density and double the tuftings). It is the finest sleep surface I've ever encountered. At my last apartment I built a sleep loft against a wall with an irregular corner and they crafted a custom sized futon and cover with one of the corners notched off to fit the space. Cheap they are not but a bargain compared to higher-end standard mattresses and customer service-wise a pleasure to deal with. read more

I have a love/hate relationship with my White Lotus mattress. While I mostly love it, I do have a few gripes. And so, I write this review in hopes of saving other people the hassles I have had. First, I own the Boulder mattress, King size, which I purchased in 2009 directly from the store in NJ. I sat on the beds, spoke extensively with the sales associates and went over all the details at the time of purchase (or so I thought!) Pros: - It's definitely comfortable, especially if you like a firm mattress, or are used an Asian setup. - I like the materials - I feel good that it's natural materials, fire resistant and not full of chemicals. Cons: - You have to be very careful about what kind of bed frame you use. If the slats are too far apart on the base, your mattress will sink into them, creating a lumpy bed. Our slats are about 7" apart and the bed sinks right into them. To their credit, White Lotus did send someone out to "fix" it, which was drilling plywood to the bottom of the bed to flatten it out. My gripe: they should have told me this in the store before I purchased my (rather expensive!) bed frame. In addition, I now have to flip my mattress to get proper air circulation. Try flipping a king sized futon! - THE MATTRESS IS NOT A STANDARD SIZE. For 3 years, I thought that my handmade bed was sized incorrectly (since it was made abroad). Then one day I measured and realized the mattress is 80x80inch square. King size beds are 80x76 standard. I know that 4" seems negligible, but to this day I have trouble squishing it into a fitted sheet. I also have a lip on the base of my bed, which forces me to squish the mattress into the frame. The result is that the mattress slopes upward on the sides and we roll in towards the middle when we sleep. So annoying! Again, I might have chosen a better frame if I had been told this at the time of purchase. - I turn and flip my mattress regularly, as directed. This does keep it even, but after 3 years of flipping a huge mattress, many of the heavy string used to created the internal tufting have snapped. Also, there are only handles ON ONE SIDE. This makes it ridiculously hard to turn. FYI: WhiteLotus was nice enough to respond to my question about the size: Yes, our king size mattresses are 80x80. I understand king size is often labeled as 76"x80", but sometimes you'll see 78"x80" or in the case of WLH, 80"x80". In fact, a few of the bed manufacturers we work with make their frames at 78"x80" and the two inch difference in size doesn't cause any issues because our mattresses are pliable. Another reason we make a square (80"x80") But I'm telling you people, beware of the king sized mattress. It is a pain despite how overall comfortable it is. My favorite part of White Lotus is that they are a conscious business, focused on creating an extremely high quality bed, and treating its employees and customers really well. Now to the bed: Marlon, the owner, dropped off this a Queen Boulder Mattress. I never thought I would say this about a bed, but it is beautiful. They are hand made with locally grown cotton from artisans in NJ. Our first night of rest was the best night of rest I have had in years. A couple weeks later we bought a second mattress. No wild-goose chases to find out whether or not a product is GOTS certified, formaldehyde-free or low /no-VOC. These people know and do their best to assure customers of true chemical-free choices. Price points are competitive and span from college student affordable to high-end. Slight problem for those with chemical sensitivities is that they do not launder the fabrics before using them and hence even the organic have finsihing chemicals on them. I've been sleeping on my mattress and topper for a few months now and wanted to write my review: I have the Cotton Topper Extra on my Latex Core Non-Borate Mattress and I love my bed! I wanted something natural but without wool (since I am allergic) and these products fit the bill- along with my (soft & medium) Kapok pillows, my bed is very natural and super comfortable. The mattress and topper are a bit more dense than a traditional mattress, so you do melt into it a little but not a crazy amount and there is no bounciness like with a spring mattress- so it feels soft and I feel supported, which is exactly what I was looking for. And the pillows are very comfortable and are soft. I switch between them depending on my mood and I'm happy knowing that my face is against such a natural product for hours and hours. One interesting side note- they really cut out noise for the ear that is pressed against it, a nice little bonus since I live on a very active/loud street. I was able to visit and shop the Brooklyn store before they closed it and met with Marlon and Lauren were are both super knowledgable and helpful. They took their time with me, giving advice & answering my millions of questions, and helped me pick out my lovely bed. read more

I was looking everywhere for a non-toxic couch that I could actually afford. We ended up deciding on a futon from White Lotus. I was very concerned that it would feel too stiff, and not comfy enough to be a couch. Boy, was I wrong. It is a wonderful place to sit and has held up beautifully. I love knowing that when my toddler is climbing all over it or napping on it, there are no toxins. I purchased the organic cotton wool dreamton queen size bed. It is hard as a rock! I wanted firm so I wouldn't wake up with low back pain, but now I wake up with shoulder, neck and hip pain because it's so hard! After a year of trying it out, thinking that I would just adjust to it, I finally called them and they told me to buy the latex topper because it would give me the extra softness and cushion I would need. So I did that and $450 and 8 months later, I'm still waking with shoulder pain because it's literally like sleeping on a boulder. By the way, one of their beds is literally called "Boulder". Hmmmm..... Also, if you buy a mattress and they say 4-6 weeks plan on it being more like 7-8 weeks. It took that long for them to get our mattress to us. Although I regret spending over $2,000 on this setup, I gave them a 3 star instead of a 2 because they were friendly and gave me the topper for 50% off and truly were concerned with my dissatisfaction. Also, I love the IDEA of their natural, non toxic products. I'm truly disgusted with all the toxic options out there that have flame retardants, formaldehyde and other chemicals that pass through our body. So I love them, in theory. Maybe they just need a few refinements on their products. Lastly, when people who write these reviews are saying they love the bed, I'm wondering how long after they tried it they wrote their reviews. Because I loved mine at first, too. Wonderful products. I recommend their mattresses for chronic pain sufferers. I almost skipped an important doctors appointment (Ankylosing spondylitis diagnosis), because my back pain had improved so drastically with the green cotton and wool latex mattress. I mail ordered a mattress cover and it took three weeks to get it. It was delivered to my apartment door filthy and unpackaged. I called the company and they said they think it's better for the environment not to use packaging when the delivery driver can just deliver the merchandise. I explained that I live in apartment building, not a house with a porch, and mail order items need arrive in some kind of shipping box or bag and can not be left unpackaged in apartment buildings. (This is just common sense really). The women I spoke to at White Lotus apologized and said she would immediately send out another mattress cover and this time she would but it in a box. That was over a month ago, and I never received my merchandise. This was a very expensive organic mattress cover and I just can't recommend doing business with a company that lacks integrity and honesty. I don't know if White Lotus is now under new ownership. Many years ago they were a reputable company but that has changed. The original unpackaged mattress cover that was delivered was so disgusting that my husband did not even want to try to wash it, and he threw it away. I just don't understand wanting to save on packaging but destroying the merchandise. It does not help the planet to to send things unprotected it just made expensive garbage. I am not expecting at this point to ever get a mattress cover from them and I am out a lot of money. There are many companies now making high quality organic bedding so I bought another mattress cover from another company it is well made and arrived in a few day. read more

Fine customer service still exists! My first order was placed over the telephone. The rep was very helpful and didn't try to strong-arm me into any extra purchases or upgrades. He was just friendly and there to be of service. I bought the boulder wool/cotton futon mattress and had been researching for a long time before making my decision. I'm glad I went with White Lotus. At the same time, I also purchased a pair of wool pillows and love them so much that I've just ordered another pair to give as xmas gifts to family. I ordered these online and the order went smoothly. I had a question about the order and contacted them via email. Let me tell you, during business hours these guys are ON. They always reply right away, and I mean right away, and are always very polite. My experience in dealing with them (and I live on the other side of the country) has been a really good one. If you're looking to get chemicals out of your bedroom, which I highly recommend, have no fear with going with these guys. They do a great job. I buy bed pillows and throw pillows from WLH for myself and my family. The extra firm organic cotton filled pillows are the most comfortable I have ever used even including the posturpedic and memory foam pillows we used to use before getting chemical allergies. My kids prefer the medium fill. It was a nice surprise to find out that the healthier bedding was also high on comfort. When we need new mattresses we will definitely be buying the cotton mattresses as well. read more

Leaving essentially the same review as C.N. (6/4/2015). The mattress is so unbearably uncomfortable (way too firm) that I toss and turn all night from the pain on my pressure points. I have had to resort to sleeping on my down sofa. I bought this mattress after purchasing a crib mattress from White Lotus and wanting an organic option for myself as well. Do not know what the options are to correct this problem. I read another review that said their latex mattress topper did not resolve this issue. read more

Had a learning experience with this place. For some things like mattresses you don't want to go with made to order or even with the small guy. My advice: read their return policy carefully. There basically isn't one. So after waiting forever (a total of seven weeks!!) for my high priced sleep swag to arrive, though it gave me terrible back and hip problems, even after a month, after one nights' sleep you are STUCK with whatever you bought. There is nothing wrong w the craftsmanship or materials, but I honestly don't think this was worth it, even supporting the local community angle. I dropped way too much money on something I didn't know if I would like and couldn't return. The staff there are nice enough but they don't know much about what is best for you best on your sleep habits, they memorized some facts about the materials but I'd go to hibernate bedding and skip this place if you want more than a Babysitters club level of knowledge--- not having much to recommend because of only superficial knowledge about sleep needs is deadly when you are dropping this much money on something you can't try out for a night. They say take your time in the store but only a full nights sleep will tell. If buying again I will only go with a place that takes it back. All your values don't equal a refreshing night sleep, trust me I really wanted to love this, now I'm just pissed at myself. read more

This is in regards to ordering online. I had been scoping out a few online shops for a latex mattress, which is a difficult purchase to make as most show rooms do not have one for you to test-lie. White Lotus had a sale, which made the latex mattress a great deal! Time got away from me, though, and I missed the sale, but when I emailed customer service, Lauren was very nice and offered to extend the sale for me. I had to call to place my order, which wasn't a hassle at all. The sales rep I spoke with was friendly and helpful. It took 3 weeks for me to receive my mattress, as it is made to order. When it arrived, the packing slip indicated that it was something different than the latex mattress I had ordered. I was panicked. Sending back a 90 lb mattress was not ideal, and not to mention the thought of having to sleep on my old mattress another night made me want to cry. I called the next day and spoke with Lauren. She checked the specs of my delivery and told me that the weight of the mattress indicated that it was the correct item. She told me that sometimes the makers will check the box "dreamton" to indicate that the mattress has a wool and cotton covering, but that does not mean it is the dreamton futon mattress, which is what I feared. She asked me to send her a picture of it, as the dreamton futon mattress would look differently than the latex one, as it has buttons on it (I can't remember what they are called). I sent her the pictures and she verified the item was indeed the latex mattress I had ordered. What a relief! Now about the mattress itself, what a dream to sleep on! I had been waking up with aches and pains every single morning, having to take extra care just to get out of bed. I woke up the morning after the first night we slept on it, and I was nervous to move, not sure if my back would be hurting or not. Let me tell you, I have not had a single ache or pain since sleeping on this new bed. It is so comfortable! It is firm enough but yields to your weight and conforms to your body. I have slept like a dream since having this new mattress! Also the main reason we chose White Lotus is because the mattresses do not off-gas with nasty chemicals. I bought my son a pillow from White Lotus Home and it's perfect for him. Online customer service was so incredibly helpful making suggestions that would work for him. I went with the wool (soft) pillow with zipper and was able to remove a bit of the wool to make it the perfect height for him. He sleeps more soundly and with less sniffles. Awesome! read more

I am highly disappointed in the return policy and in customer service. Most other stores I've ever shopped at allow a customer to use a product for a certain amount of time to deterime if the item works for them and then allow free returns on items the customer isn't satisified with. White lotus does NOT. Their return policy is that they will only accept unsued pillows when returned AND the customer has to pay return shipping PLUS a 30% restocking fee. I ordered three different style pillows to see which we liked and now we are stuck with the two types that we tried out. Luckily we did not try one pillow. I had emailed customer service about returns previously and the response I received simply said that I had 30 days to return. It said nothing about the restocking fee. Now that I am ready to return I was informed of the entire policy. Sure, I should have read the policy online but instead I just went by the initial email. I would not purchase from this company again simply for the above reasons. My money will be spent at another place next time. Very disappointing! read more

My mattresses arrived today! I felt the love and attention to detail upon opening the package. The mattresses smells quite lovely; very natural and earthy, definitely not fumy like the chemical laden traditional beds. The fabric is thick and textured. Their mattresses are individually hand made and not produced via mass assembly line. I really get a positive vibe from the beds. I feel my children are safe sleeping at night. I wish i could give this company zero stars. I tried to order a mattress without chemical flame retardants for my daughter who is highly sensitive to chemicals . I was told that i needed a doctors note. I got a note from a D.O and was told that the script didn't have a DEA number so they could not ship the mattress. I called the division of consumer affairs who licenses doctors and was told that any Doctor in NJ . M.D, D.O or D.C could write a script for a chemical free bed. A DEA number was not needed because i was not purchasing a drug. I tried to explain this to to the salesperson and he didn't want to hear any of it. There are plenty of other bed companies who have a much more current policy allowing for chemical free beds with a doctors note. read more

I have been attempting to set up an account with this business since the first week in January 2012. I faxed in a request, no response, no response, no response......I emailed. NO response, no response. I called. No response, no response. Today I called and spoke to someone who informed me she had returned my call. Not true, I would have gotten it. I own my own business, answer my own calls. Then she informed me I had to have a resale # in order to open an account. My state does not require resale numbers. I tried to explain, as I had in the application. I have accounts all over the country and in other countries, and this is the first time this roadblock has occurred.
