It is like they never recovered. The shelves are often empty, especially of sale items. Not just sometimes, almost every day. Recently we stopped four days in one week for a meat sale item and when they had none the management had one excuse after another. It has become so frustrating to shop and not find close to half of the items we're looking for forcing us to shop at another store. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The pharmacy staff is exceptional and is the reason we still buy all of our prescriptions at this store. Basically we now buy almost all of our food at the local PRICE CHOPPER MARKET 32 that has everything we need on every visit at lower prices.

Unfortunately, that changed quickly when I saw an employee loading the tomatoes and lettuce into the aluminum serving tins with her bare hands, directly scooping from a larger plastic storage bin. No gloves, no utensils. Just bare hands fully in the food. That's unsanitary and violates Vermont health code (§3-301.11), which prohibits bare-hand contact with ready-to-eat food. We left immediately without ordering. Completely unacceptable and disappointing.

As I was…read morewalking down an aisle, I encountered an employee wearing the usual Walmart vest and asked her if she could help me. Her response was "I'm not on the clock" and walked away. If this is how management trains their employees to respond to a customer's request, no wonder the store gets such bad ratings. Whether or not the employee is "on the clock," they should respond to such a request by offering guidance or finding someone who is "on the clock" to provide assistance. In my employment history, had I responded in such a fashion, whether or not I was actually working, I would probably have been fired or at least reprimanded. While I was totally disgusted with the employee, as time passes I find it is Walmart management that holds responsibility for this type of behavior in their employees.

I came up from Virginia to visit a friend for a few days this week and he brought me here. I gotta…read moresay, I was blown away by the quality of their meat. They didn't have any fresh ribeye when I went (curses!) but they had some frozen tomahawks that looked like they might as well have been wagyu. The marbling on them was incredible, the ribeye from the local butchers where I'm at in the Shenandoah Valley completely paled in comparison. But we were cooking steak that day and I didn't want a frozen one, so we grabbed a couple New York Strips (or whatever their actual name is) that had marbling like I'd never seen in that cut. Cooked them in a cast iron over fire and coals with some butter, fresh garlic, salt and pepper and boy, did they just melt in your mouth - if you'd told me it was tenderloin, I would've never doubted. Really wanted to go back and grab those frozen tomahawks to take home with me but it just didn't work out like that, now I'm back home and just woke up the next morning and I can't stop thinking about 'em. A Vermont style supersized general store is what Willey's is. Its name implies that it's a…read morehardware store which a quarter of it is. Willey's also has kitchenware, outdoor clothes / gear, grocery, deli, wine & beer and little bit of everything else too like toys, postcards and souvenirs. They are the largest country store I've seen in VT and Willey's takes up a big chunk of downtown Greensboro. In fact, I only saw one other shop here....so downtown Greensboro is mostly Willey's. They seem to take up 2 very old (100+ years) houses. If you are visiting rural NE K for other destinations, Willey's is a likely stop for local brews, cheeses, gears or sustenance. Parking is free. Real general stores don't seem to exist outside of few states now. Though Willey's is an institution, they are very different from many I've been in VT. Do hope Willey's keeps the charm of rural VT country stores and people continue to visit and keep them in business!

Located near Burke Mountain, East Burke Market is a great place to shop locally for basic grocery…read moreneeds including a small selection of fresh produce, meats, full service deli, frozen foods, ice cream, dairy items, Cabot cheese, home & cleaning products, baked goods, snacks, cooler drinks, beer, wine, coffee, and a selection of local products. There are also 4 gas pumps outside in front to fuel your vehicle. I stopped by East Burke Market for a sandwich. The place was very busy here, including lots of out of state plates (NY, NJ, CT) in the parking lot. During this pandemic, I wore a mask inside the store, where the majority of customers and staff were also wearing masks too and masks are mandated in Vermont. Since the store was very busy, it did take a while to order a deli sandwich. The manager came out and asked a staff member to help me. I ordered a made to order Turkey Sub ($4.69). After the sandwich was made, cut, and packed and wrapped, I had to wait a while (7 minutes) to checkout since there was only one staff at the register. The lady in front of me from Downstate NY was buying lots of groceries, well over $100. Also, a scruffy anti-masker male strolled into the store got his stuff and proceeded to stand next to me in line (no 6 feet space), WTF (I thought wearing masks inside was law in VT). Apparently people looked, but no one on staff dared to confront the mask issue. I moved aside quickly and when it was my turn, I promptly checked out, cash ready. The Turkey Sub was very good, thick and filled with lots of deli turkey slices (Dietz & Watson), lettuce, tomato, onions, cheddar cheese, & mayo on a soft Koffee Kup Bakery Sub roll.
