Yes, another Super Old, Super Market! The old White Market, in downtown Lizardville is yards smaller compared to supermarkets nowadays. White's is a community market where you see people you know, and you get the daily paper, coffee, and gossip. Only near 7 narrow isles, this is a pretty busy market compared to Vermont standards. The basics are here that you can live comfortably off. Milk, cheese, meat, yogurt, and basic brand kittie litter. Yes the basics to get by on as in Vermont, you don't need the rest or "that fancy brand". Check out the cool old faded White Market sign painted on the brick wall on the Depot St/ Rt 5 side. I live in a town adjoining one of the three family-owned White Markets; I am not affiliated with any grocery stores in the area. I was not asked to write what follows. I patronize any or all of the stores (depending on my needs). Like many Vermonters, I favor local ownership, local produce, and local employment over homogenized chain stores with there same taste Big Agra "food products" and their in-house brands. The White Market store I use most often is located in Lyndonville "Lizardville" is the invention of a correspondent with bile in his kidney and judgement located elsewhere. It's a heck of a way to refer to someone's home town. Lyndonville (2016: pop. 1172) is the largest village in the town of Lyndon. There are two Lyndonville stores -- the one I use is relatively small (but expanded since the 2011 Yelp posts). It is clean, has adequate parking and is frequented by local residents - who are familiar with prices and products, and not just passing through on the way to buying food products imported from places like Califiornia, and improved with chemicals and modified DNA. I have always found White Market stores to be responsive to customer requests and fair in their pricing. They carry organic foods, and foods from local producers. Every so often I ask the produce manager to get me a case of juicing oranges; he reviews the possibilities from his distributor list, shows me the price he pays and calculates a markup while I am there. I can see why someone from other places prefers saving time by buying set products at set prices. So much more efficient, and the foods might even taste OK -- but chacun a son goute, eh? Prior to purchase, the meat manager shows me the specials of the week and explains any price reductions. The salad bar is at least as good as the big box store (which offers discounts on inflated gas prices out on the highway). The limes are generally cheaper and juicier than at any other local outlet in the area. You can get organic limes at Littleton Co-Op White Market offers a discount card to regular customers (People from "away" can get one - if they have the time to ask). They sell house brands and national brands. But the maple syrup is local. I do drive 30 miles each way a couple of times a month to the Littleton Co-op in NH -- they have all kinds of delicious exotica and rare foods: bulk organics, free range chickens, Angus branded red meats, wild caught fish, expert advice on everything, and inexpensive special orders. And I do go to the local big box stores for filling foods that satisfy out-of-towners who prefer Holiday Inns and never pay cash. You don't have to patronize local businesses when you visit Vermont, but why wouldn't you? read more

I am unbearable when I am hungry. I live in town but had to do laundry and run errands. I picked up a tuna sandwich from the deli and love that there is a ramekin of chopped up pickles in the container for us pickle lovers. Thanks White Market, you make me a nicer person! read more

The prices have sky rocketed since COVID. I had written them asking why and was told it was due to there suppliers..ex: 18 pk of eggs went from $1.79 - $4.99. I can get the same 18 pk at Price Chopper for $2.29. Another smaller grocer in the area didn't increase their prices nearly as much. Since my contacting them via email you are no longer able to contact them other than by phone. July 1,2020 saw the end of plastic bags, now your charged 11cents per paper bag and prior to the new law they were FREE! I'm done with these price gouging ripoff artists. read more

To whom it may concern: There's no doubt that the White Market is a staple in the NEK. Three convenient locations all within reach of area residents. But, that just ain't gonna do it anymore. Within the last few months I've witnessed some items increase in price 150%--yes, you read that right! Avocados recently as a few weeks ago priced at $1.10 have increased to $2.50 That's criminal! About six months ago, I was pleasantly surprised to find mushrooms grown locally from an outfit in St. J on your shelves. 4 ounces priced $2.50. I went in a week later they were up to $3.00 and the week post $4.00 and weight reduced by .5 ounces. Not surprisingly, I haven't seen them again. Mcdougalls soups--ramen noodle soups were $2.00. This was less than a month ago. The price as of two weeks ago, $2.30. Recently, I was at a Trader Joes. I picked up a pound of organic cashews. They were $8.50. The White market price for cashews--non organic, mind you, is $7.00 for 9 ounces. Just about half as much for relatively the same price. I could probably go on with a list ad nauseum but I think you get the idea. Even though the White Market is no more than three miles from my house and is owned locally and employs many area residents shopping there no longer fits my conscience nor my pocket book. I'll be heading down the road and giving my business to Price Chopper. It's a bit more inconvenient but it's prices are reasonable and the selection is superior. I will also be recommending friends and family do the same and showing them evidence why. I held off because I really thought that I was doing right by my community but I have seen, unfortunately, that the White Market doesn't care very much for the community at large. A wonderful store. I grew up with it. Their south location has deli salads that are a favorite at my house.

It was horrible. The salad bar was completely dried out. The egg salad had turned a bright yellow and the garbanzo beans looked fake. Its called a cover.... Try it. The hot food bar did not look any more appetizing. ... Needless to say I left empty handed. read more

A beautiful store in a wonderful setting. The selection is excellent. The staff is the friendliest around. A welcome experience in contrast to the "empty" chain stores - this one has just the right combination of products and hard to find, unique and local items. I was surprised to see some vitriol in one of the few reviews posted, so will share my opinion. I've lived in this area for 15 years and been a loyal customer with my loyalty only growing stronger. Whites carries an excellent selection of staples at competitive prices, and also a good range of just plain good food that is more locally connected. Their dairy can't be beat- Cabot cheese is frequently as low as $2.50 a block; milk and eggs are always fresh and well priced too. Their produce- if you go in without preset opinions of what you need- will always have enough excellent options to stock your house with something fresh and seasonal, also frequently sourced locally (fiddleheads in the spring, prune plums when the local prune trees are bearing...) Employees are kind and helpful; if you don't like this market it's only b/c you haven't lived elsewhere to know how good we've got it here! read more
