Even if Aunt Jemima hadn't been cancelled a few years ago, I'd probably be officially switching to real maple syrup after this excursion. One of my cousins has a bit of an obsession with natural sweeteners and scheduled a trip to White Meadows for us last weekend. It was a bit of a drive from our Finger Lakes Airbnb that involved a literal border crossing, but honestly was worth the trek. I wasn't sure what to expect beyond a deluge of maple leaf signs/flags, but I definitely left with an appreciation of the insane amount of work required to make this without using mass-produced corn syrup. We'd scheduled a tour, subsequent syrup tasting and charcuterie board for a 1:30pm start time. Not knowing what drama we might encounter at the border (there was absolutely none - deliciously uneventful; this isn't the border anyone gets particularly riled up about), we got here super early and had ample time to look around the gift shop. I barely considered the implications of the tariffs and didn't bother buying any maple syrup - understandably when I went to the farm's website later, it indicated they're not shipping to the US right now. That decision will haunt me for weeks and maybe months to come. Our guide was Nathan, who was an absolute superstar. I can't recommend this guy highly enough. He was engaging and knew how to talk about the science and concepts behind maple syrup and its cultivation on the farm in a way that was easily digestible but also very in-depth and informative. We were in a pretty inquisitive group, and he fielded a myriad of questions ably; I also liked that once or twice, he didn't know the answer and just said that - sadly a rarity in this day and age. But that didn't happen very often; Nathan knows maple syrup. The tour consists of a 10 to 15-minute discussion in one of the prep rooms near the gift shop (where most of the equipment and technical terminology is broken down), followed by a 10-minute tractor ride to the woods on the other side of the property to the tree-tapping area where the majority of the tour takes place, followed by a ride back to the starting point and a five-minute tasting of the four syrups made on the farm. One piece of constructive feedback - there were several young children there who were honestly a bit of a distraction. This is probably school age kid friendly but there were some very antsy toddlers (and even an infant) who just weren't old enough for this. I'd put a disclaimer up on the website that this isn't really appropriate for pups that young so the parents know ahead of time not to bother booking it. It is really wild seeing how much goes into creating maple syrup on a mom-and-pop farm like this. The intricate weaving of the taps/tubes throughout the forest leading to a storage tank out of site, and seeing how aggressive you have to be to take advantage of the very narrow window that sap can be harvested? Had no idea. If nothing else, you'll definitely come away from this being blown away by the syrup trade and the immense work required. You just never think about this stuff when you're at the diner pouring (not real) syrup onto your pancakes. The tasting and charcuterie were really good too - if you're already here, I'd spring for the charcuterie so you can sample the syrups and assorted meats/cheeses on a grander scale than just the tasting. The only annoying part were the yellowjackets constantly trying to get in on the fun (which I found out in Canada are more commonly referred to as wasps). I honestly have no idea how they can fix or alleviate that issue since by definition you're putting sweet/sugary stuff out on picnic tables, but might be worth troubleshooting down the line. Absolutely would recommend if you happen to be in the general Upstate NY area and have your passport handy. But make sure you actually buy the syrup there - I have no idea when I'm going to get a chance to sup on the Golden grade of syrup again. read more

We diverted from our route when we saw the sign for White Meadow maple syrup. It was about 11km/7mi off the highway. Just as we were about to turn around, there it was. They have a small store but there is ample parking. The clerk, who explained they were 4th generation maple farm, was friendly. The store was cool and clean. We bought Golden, amber and dark syrup, maple jelly and maple pepper jelly along with some maple candy. The candy melts in your mouth. read more

Ever since I watched Andrew Zimmern tried maple taffy on his show, it has been on my bucket list. So happy we got to do that at White Meadows Farms It was easy to book the tour online at their website, during the summer they offer two tours a day. The farm is a bit out of the way from Niagara Falls or Niagara on the Lakes (about 45 min from NOTL). We arrived a little late as we took a wrong turn somewhere, and we were so worried we'd miss the tour, but as the first 15 mins of the tour is in the building by the parking lot, we missed out a bit of the history and production part, but were in time to hop onto the wagon to see the forest. Our tour guide was great. As we walked through the forest, he entertained us with fun info about maple trees and sap harvesting. He was not fazed at all by the myriad of questions we threw at him, and our group did have a curious mind. During the summer there's no action going on but the tour was fun and educational nonetheless. Hopefully one day we will get to visit again during the Fall for the harvest. Did you know that maple syrup has more calcium than milk, and that many diabetics can safely consume it? We enjoyed the maple taffy so much we got a second helping. After the tour, we naturally couldn't resist picking up some products from the little store over there. We took a short detour to White Meadows Farm on our way to Toronto and it was worth the trip. I booked the last tasting board for the day at 4p. When arrived the parking lot was empty, but you can tell they are prepared for large crowds. The staff were waiting for us. They staff person immediately sat us at a picnic table outside and brought our maple iced tea. The iced black tea was delicious. It was sweet, but not overly sweet. You could tell there was nothing artificial. After she brought the tea we were given our tasting board. The tasting board included both savory and sweet options. Everything on the board had maple syrup as an ingredient except for the strawberries and pickles. I never new the different uses for different grades of maple syrup. It was a learning experience along with some great food. Our favorite was the onion jam and dark maple syrup. After your tasting board they give you a $5 coupon to use in their store. We didn't hesitate to purchase items to take home. The farm is a little off the beaten path, but also a scenic drive. It is a larger farm. We sat at a picnic table near the parking lot. It wasn't exactly picturesque, but the tasting board experience made up for the lack of ambiance. If I had the opportunity I would return for the tour. read more

We visited this farm as part of our day trip to the Niagara Falls. Luc gave us a talk about the making of maple syrup. Luc was awesome. Super energetic and knowledgeable. I asked a lot of questions like the impact of climate change on the harvesting window. It was surprising to learn that 10 yrs ago, the harvesting window was 8 weeks and now just 6 weeks. We went to this farm as part of our family Fall Break vacation to the Niagara Area. We were trying all things maple- and wanted a non- touristy place that we found was over priced and kinda of a let down. This place is AMAZING. The staff is warm and engaging and so knowledgeable. We had the charcuterie board and love it! There was six of us and even our teenage boys liked trying the samples on the charcuterie board. I would totally recommend this place. The staff recommended a other local bakery that had the Nanaimo bars that we love and can't find in our neck of the woods in the USA, and a great restaurant for lunch that had amazing fish and chips. We loved the advise of a local as places to try! This farm is a little off the beaten path but it is so worth the drive which by the way is gorgeous in the fall! The guide then walks you through the history of making maple syrup beginning with the Indigenous methods all the way to White Meadows' method. We had a great time and are very appreciative that they conducted the tour with us even though I made a mistake and booked our tour a week later than we would be there. We were told not to take the summer tour, that it's not as good as the tour offered during the harvest season. I'm glad we did. I thought it was very entertaining and educational. The first time visiting this farm was stumbling upon it one day during a Fall drive. Now every time I drive to Niagara Falls, I must make a stop here for mainly two things--maple kettle popcorn and farm fresh free run eggs by the dozens! (Perk- you buy 12 dozens, get the 13th free!) Their breakfast at the Pancake House is amazing. Scrambled eggs made from fresh eggs, none of the carton stuff (oh yes you can definitely taste the difference). Homemade Maple beans, scrumptious and homey. The best is their fluffy pancakes with unlimited pourage of Maple Syrup. Their coffee are beans from Balzac Coffee from the Distillery in Toronto (may I suggest trying the Maple coffee). I have yet to go to their Sugarbush Adventure but have read many great things about it. Got a free mini sample of the Maple BBQ sauce and OMG, must go back for a full size bottle. My cousin's son is visiting from Japan so I'm playing toursit with him. In J-land, Canada = Maple Syrup so I decided to check out White Meadows Farms. By 3:30, most activities were no longer available. As a result, our visit wasn't too long. We had a little presentation on the maple syrup making process. There was also a petting farm with rams and sheep. Before leaving we stopped at the shop so my cousin's son could buy stuff for my aunt and cousin. Definitely try the maple syrup tarts; they're pretty good. 6 of them for $12. It was okay ... A solid three star. read more

This place is adorable!! Such a real, down-home, Canadian experience! We loved every bit of the tour, which included a tractor ride, in depth explanation of how maple syrup is made, a beautiful nature walk through the maple tree forest, maple sap tasting, maple snow candy making (and eating!), tastings of the different maple syrups, and cute jokes from our charming tour guide! This is a great place to visit if you're in the Niagara Region. First of all, the drive from Niagara Falls proper is nothing short of spectacular! You head through some truly surprising "short hills" on the way to the farm and it makes for a very interesting drive. Lots of steep ravines and rolling hills -- very picturesque. It's a good reminder that the region isn't all flat! The farm itself offers tours and has a petting zoo, but this is strictly a review of the Pancake House. It's a great breakfast joint -- fluffy pancakes with spectacular maple syrup and all the fixings. Also, the maple tea is delicious. A huge meal is still under $10, so there's great value. I would come back to do one of the tours. read more

My husband and I celebrated our most recent anniversary in Niagara Falls, Canada. We wanted to visit a maple farm while in Canada and on a Google search I found White Meadows Farm which was about a 30 minute uber ride from our hotel. We opted to do the picnic after the tour which was worth every penny! The picnic basket was set up with a blanket to lay out and the food and sweet maple tea was delicious! It was really perfect and so enjoyable just to be sitting out in the quiet of nature. Our tour guide was Richard... he and his family own the farm. The tour was educational and fun. We got to make maple taffy, try maple water, and taste all the different types of maple syrup as they change throughout the season. When we left, we accidently left our purchases on the picnic table. Richard took the time to look up my email address and emailed me to let me know we forgot them. He then offered to have the same items that we had purchased be ready for us to pick up at his store in Niagara Falls as he knew we were staying close by there. He also included a pair of maple tarts since my husband had saved his from the picnic and put it in the bag with our souvenirs. He really went above and beyond! Stumbled upon on this gem on our way to Toronto. We took a maple tour that shows you how the sap from trees is turned into that nectar from the gods known as maple syrup. Our tour guide was great! After showing us how its cooked, he took us into the forest (sounds strange sorry) and showed us how they extract the sap from the trees. All interesting stuff. Then at the end of the tour, we were treated to some maple popsicles that were alone worth the trip. To end our time at White Meadow Farms, we partaked in a maple syrup tasting at their lovely store. And pf course afterwards, bought maple syrup! Also plenty pf other goodies, like maple bbq sauce, maple brittle, butter tarts, maple popcorn, and plenty of other stuff. 5 stars isn't enough!!! read more

Went here for a late breakfast with the bf on the recommendation of his mom. We were looking for a cheap breakfast with real maple syrup on the table. Neither of us are morning people so we got to the pancake house at 11:30 to be greeted by a massive line. ...omg. There was an enthusiastic employee talking to the crowd and playing up the maple-goodness to be had within the pancake house. Lots of kids -- to be expected since White Meadows also touts hay rides (covered wagons in the winter), an educational tour about maple tapping and seasonal events like Easter egg hunts. 30 minutes later the bf and I got to the front of the line and ordered. 2 Pioneers + extra pancake (for now super hungry me), a french vanilla cappucino and hot chocolate for a total of under $25. There were a ton of extra seats inside which made me confused why the line took so long. It's cafeteria ordering and all the food is pre-cooked. Really it seemed the line was only held up because the pancakes weren't coming out fast enough -- an issue you'd think would be taken care of at a restaurant that specializes in pancakes... As for the food, the buttermilk pancakes were golden, fluffly and pretty darn good. I also tried the whole wheat pancakes which I am going to be honest... they were bad. They were hard, chewy and bread-like. Really not recommended. I bet my pancake was sitting out for at least 30 min because it was also cold -- not that I think a fresh whole wheat pancake would have been much better. Its only saving grace was that I had an unlimited supply of real maple syrup in which I could drown it in an attempt to add back some moisture to my hard bread-cake - I mean pancake. As for the other food, the scramble eggs were very standard (but good and warm), the home fries were a bit dry and not crispy on the outside. Sausages were really tasty! Overall a good, cheap place to take the kids for some educational fun, especially if you can get there early. Also great for tourist groups and showing your out-of-town friends some light Canadian history. read more

This was our last stop on our three-day trip in the Niagara area. My SO and I love maple syrup, and I had read good things about White Meadows online. We had breakfast in the pancake house (Sapling for me, Pioneer for my SO) and were delighted with the service, speed, and quality of food. Plus the views out the window were perfectly picturesque. We headed to the shop after breakfast and picked up an extremely large jug of maple syrup for ourselves, along with some gift bottles for the holidays, and some maple red pepper jelly - all very reasonably priced! I've paid $25+ for decent syrup in the states in a jug a quarter of the size of the one we got here, and it wasn't nearly as delicious! The staff was friendly as well. read more

If you are looking for a great Maple syrup there is no need to drive 2 hrs to Toronto....this place is just 18 min from downtown Niagara Falls. We are from KY, USA and don't have access to much real syrup. We weren't looking forward to another drive so we Googled and these folks popped up. The restaurant is seasonal but the have breakfast boxed and pancakes to buy. But the bonus...ANN. and the Sweet Shop. Ann answered all our crazy questions and even showed us how the process is done. We had a syrup tasting and walked out with 3 bottles, rubs, lotion and candies! REAL SYRUP IS WORTH THE PRICE! AND their place is a quaint and historic hidden gem of Ontario!
