The espresso is rich and beautifully balanced with deep flavor -- smooth, bold, and thankfully not overly citrusy like so many modern roasts. The staff are genuinely welcoming and friendly, which makes the whole experience feel like visiting old friends. The shop itself is charming, cozy, and full of character, and the outdoor seating area is one of my favorite spots to slow down, sip, and just take in the moment. I usually stop in for coffee here while in town visiting family. They're always friendly and service is great. Today I had the Black Bear 'River Original' and it was fantastic. I could have one every day! They also serve a few hot breakfast and bakery items. Last year they expanded the seating area and it's beautiful! Highly recommend! I LOVED this place! The owners were welcoming, cheerful, and full of knowledge of the area and its history. The biscuits were the BEST I've ever had (sorry Grandma)... so light and fluffy like clouds. The Wild Blueberry Muffin is a favorite and the Oatmilk Latte was a dream. I fell in love with this place from the minute I walked in the door. The staff was smiling, friendly, helpful, and genuinely seemed happy to to be there. The gentleman that helped me is working here as a summer job from teaching 5th grade. Goodness knows he's got to be enjoying the break from teaching. LOL The chicken salad sandwich with cranberries and pecans was very good and the croissant was very fresh and yummy. The frap I had to go with it was good. Next time I will try a hot drink and write another review. I saw the most heartwarming gesture towards a customer by a woman I believe was probably the manager. It really touched my heart. We need more people like her in the world! The hidden White River is a clean true coffee shop with personable staff. They treat each customer as an individual. The various areas make for a nice variety of places to sit. Lots of outdoor seating on a spacious deck with little street traffic. read more

Whoop! What a great little place. Off any main road but well worth it. We stopped in for lunch and I had the Jon Boat (I think was the name). Steak and cheese panini. The meat was good, cheese melty, and the bread nice and crispy. The sandwich came with potato chips and pickle spears. Even the spears were good, nice and crunchy, not a soggy mess. We had wonderful weather to sit outside which allowed us to bring our dog out on the patio area. The outside was very comfortable, not crowded in terms of tables and space. Not a big menu by any stretch of the imagination. I would love to see them add more items so it will give me reason to go back and not have the same choice of the handful of sandwiches they do have. Prices were fair. Didn't have coffee so I can't comment on that. All in all a very good experience and well worth a visit. read more

This coffee shop was our home base for breakfast every day for our 5th Graders mission trip. An awesome place to stop in on if you're in the area, and need a quick coffee (recommend the Muddy River - add a scoop of protein to boost it), breakfast, or a tasty lunch (Kayak is a creative twist, I thought, with the sliced apples). They fed us breakfast everyday (even on their closed day), and lunch one day. We were so thankful to have such wonderful and kind hosts. You'll find plenty of space here to hang out with a friend or two, or a small group. We spent time inside, and outdoors on the deck with cover in the arbor or the tables with umbrellas. There is also a nice and clean bathroom! But, the food and space is only part of why coming here is so cool. If you have some time, come by and let the owner Dean, or his wife, if she's there (earlier in the morning before she goes to work), tell you the story behind the shop, the surrounding area, and the missions going on just steps away from this gem. You'll be amazed at the heart these people have for the city of Rockaway Beach. read more

Was staying nearby and was kind of bummed nothing I was used to going to was nearby. After searching for "coffee" in the morning we found this little place .5 miles away from where we were staying and it made the location of our AirBnB a million times better. The coffee here is amazing and reasonably priced considering I got my Wife and I each a large Hot drink and it was under $10. At commercial places you can't even get one drink for less than 6 dollars majority of the time unless you just like over spending for plain coffee. The food here is fine. It's not like it's a big restaurant where they can invest a lot into making the food amazing or anything, but for what it is and it's cost it's still worth 5 stars in my opinion. The two people who were working here at the time we got here were both very kind and very patient with my wife and I. The ambience of the place is very cozy feeling and the amount of people the employees seem to know by name also speaks to how great of a place this is. The decor also fits the name since when I think of the white river i think of fishing and older things. read more

If I could give this place 10 stars I would. We are staying at a local Airbnb near by and happened to stop in. We were blow away by this little gem of a cafe. The sandwiches were incredible, and the coffee was so good. We both got coffee (seasonal peeps latte and the sugar maple latte) and sandwiches (the kayak and the jonboat). A coffee house that doesn't smell or taste like coffee, I came to the establishment by a whim of searching "coffee " on Apple Maps pulled a nice hole in the wall coffee shop figuring support small and local businesses whenever traveling. I first ordered a signature coffee of there's the "ozark trail" it was all crème and sugar but no coffee to be found! The service was quick and speedy as if having a book and wanting to enjoy a small town atmosphere was for the birds. After receiving my drink of crème and sugar I went to the nice patio to enjoy the local artist of the town playing acoustic guitar and singing. As the show began the artist began a lovely rendition of happy birthday and over the rainbow then mentioning the pastor/ mayor was attending. Then a right turn of the artist singing her very own political song! Over all the people were friendly and relatively polite. I returned inside for coffee I ordered there special a "iced chai latte" with a added three shots of espresso this time i got some kind of coffee still very sweet! I also ordered a "Philly paddle board" which was cooked long enough to melt the cheese for the quesadilla very unappetizing. When I checked what's inside it was, what looked liked two thin slices of microwaved beef with cheese and bell pepper that have been in a 1/6th pan for days basically mush. This place was definitely modern, but had so much character to it as well. The atmosphere is very calm and pleasant as well as warm and inviting. There's only been a handful of times I've seen the use of a tablet as a register, and using Apple Pay worked perfectly and fast. I got the mocha, and it was exceptionally delicious. We happened on to this place, not by accident, although we didn't realize we would find a great coffee shop with a great menu. Twenty-five years ago, our family stayed in the small motel that was located here. The deck in the front is covering the swimming pool where our youngest learned to swim. Coffee sounded good, so we went in, shared our story, and drank some of the best coffee ever! The sweet girl that served us was so patient!
