Great beer and ambiance. Retro furniture to sit back and chill. One of our fav stops when we road trip around this part of Illinois.

We were definitely a fan. The beers are More abstract than most. Not traditional beers. We loved the foerder aged beers. Tart/sour and crisp without being heavily fruited. We tried several tasters and the tea inspired flavors were good too. Especially the one with rooibos tea. Cool space too. Worth the stop if you are going thru the So-IL beer trail or back from Kincaid. read more

Profound was their best refreshing sour. Flights are generous pours, the even had a tasty Michigan cider that was called Zombie Killer. Slow mid day Saturday at the extra nice venue downtown, so worthy of local and tourist support. Staff friendly and learned lots, so selfish me was glad we caught this brewery on a slow hour. They have growlers. They had no food. Wasn't hungry, just thirsty and this place was the cure. read more

What a great little brewery in the heart of Sparta! This former Kroger store has been remodeled into a warm and welcoming room. All the attention's on the beer, with no food available on site. Both their website and Facebook show what brews are currently available; today's menu included eight of their own and a couple guest taps. Several choices had an ABV under 4; one of the sours was just 3 and nothing's over 6.5 (I tend to check those numbers when I'm the designated driver.) We tried six White Rooster beers and enjoyed them all, including two Kairos sours (cherry-plum is sour and mango-guava is really sour), a porter, a peach blonde, and a really interesting Grodziskie (Polish style with smoked wheat.) Bar staff was knowledgeable and made recommendations when we deliberated over a third round. Hours are currently different than listed here, perhaps because of COVID-era adjustments. Signage indicated that masks are required. There's distanced seating available on the patio, and indoor seating as well. read more

I frequent many of the local microbrews and White Rooster is one of my new favorites! Located in Sparta, IL. A nice, scenic drive from St. Louis, but not too far! They have a great tasting room space that is open, with a lot of seating. A small outside patio and large garage doors that can be opened when the weather is nice. You can tell they put a lot of work and attention to detail into the building. Now to the most important part, their amazing craft beers! One of the things that makes them standout is their selection varies from porters to sours, IPAs and witbier, all which they do very well! One of their beers, Flapjack, a porter with maple syrup is in my top three of all time favorite beers. I am not a huge fan in general of IPAs, but am liking some of the east coast style IPAs and White Rooster's are awesome! If you are a fan of sours, also definitely worth the trip! An added bonus is the staff is friendly and welcoming, which makes the whole visit that much more enjoyable! Check them out! You won't be disappointed! read more

Sparta has a population of about 4,000 people give or take. I'm always very skeptical about going to a brewery in such a small town, the bar is usually set pretty low. A lot of times its just generic beer that has no competition so there is no attempt to make it good. My in-laws are from Sparta and we were visiting so what the hell there is nothing else to do lets check it out. VERY IMPRESSIVE set up and beer. The building is beautiful both on the outside and in, lots of seating, very clean, wide open space. The beer was really good, especially the kettle sours, very full flavored beers with complex flavor you would not expect from a small town brewery. I'm also not a very big saison fan but their red corn saison was one of the better ones I have had. If you are anywhere within 50 miles I would say check this place out it was much better then what I was expecting. read more

White Rooster Farmhouse Brewery is a relative newcomer to Saint Louis region craft beer scene, and they have already made quite a debut. Ever since opening in late March they have already established quite a reputation with some of the local beer enthusiasts, which is one of the reasons they caught my attention. This past weekend, I decided to make the journey from Saint Louis to Sparta to see if the beer lives up to the expectation; simple answer, yes it did! Located in downtown Sparta, in what used to be an old Kroger grocery store just across the street from the Sparta Police Department you will find some of the best beer in Southern Illinois. Just a note by the looks of the building on the outside you would hardly expect to find a brewery but once inside you will immediately discover that this place has character. Inside you will notice a more rustic feel with lots of wood accents, most notably are some of the tables that are made out of old doors and open ceiling rafters that make you feel like you are in an old barn. One of the features that stands out is the large barn door that separates the tap room from the brewery. The staff is friendly and extremely knowledgeable too, which makes taking a seat at the bar a pretty enjoyable experience. Although if you wish to gather around a table with some friends, as there are more than enough to cover a busy afternoon or evening. The beer here is pretty good too. Currently, White Rooster is serving a wide variety of beers ranging from their take on a cloudy styled New England styled IPA to a damn fine Berliner Weisse, but don't worry they have other mainstays like a Kolsch, Pilsner, and several Porters. In addition to about eight beers available on tap, they also have several beers available in bottles available to go, or for on premise consumption. Yes, I did manage to bring home two bottles to sample later. When I visited flights were not available. However, they expect to have the glassware shortly, until then you can go with a half pour, sip on a full pour, or go all in with a growler to take home with you. Great selection of beer. These guys are on the verge of greatness. The Omerta is a delicious imperial stout. Push Pull is a favorite, with the 2 Hop IPA. This brewery focuses on traditional barrel aged brew. If you love beer than you'll enjoy stopping by and tasting some of the finest brew to be made. read more

This place is a GEM. If you are in the area stopping in is a must!! There isn't a bad beer on tap, but Elliptic is something special. The owners are great conversation and good hearted people. 15/10 recommend! read more

I liked this place. I was a bit rushed because I needed to get home but they had good beer and knowledgeable bartenders.

This brewery is relatively new to the craft beer scene in the area. But it's already acquired quite the reputation, which is why I had to add it to my list of breweries to visit. The folks that run it are so friendly and were a joy to talk to. The seating area inside is very open and has a very barn house feel to it which is super relaxing. They have some adorable tables that are essentially refurbished doors. I thought those were the coolest thing I've seen in a while. And of course, the beers were great. The Kolsch was my favorite by far. I really recommend giving this place a try if you're into craft beers. And they do have a food truck associated with the brewery though I didn't get the chance to give them a try. But it's always good to know you have optional munchies to go with the beer. read more

My wife and I were so excited to hear that there was a brewery here in Sparta. We got to the brewery around 5 - 5:30 on Friday afternoon and left about 7:00 PM. We were a little surprised to see that there was only 3 patrons in the place. One gentleman was on his laptop and two at the bar. They were all gone within 20 minutes after we arrived. We sat at a table because weren't sure how it worked. I finally went up to the bar and I was met by a man who asked me what I wanted. Very cool and seemed like he could care less whether I was there or not. I asked about the beer and he was very cool in his response and offered little help. I decided on a taster. It consisted of 5 small beers. I asked if he had a tray to take the beer to my table, he stated they didn't have any. I politely asked about food and he told me what they had. A salami and cheese plate. That sounded pretty good so I ordered it. The gentleman walked to a refrigerator and pulled out three plastic wrapped cheeses and three kinds of salami and said pick one of each. Gave me a cutting board, a knife and a box of crackers. After that it's fend for yourself. I have to say it was without a doubt, the worst brewery experience I have ever encountered in all my travels. I would not encourage anyone to spend any time or money here. The only beer out of five that was any good was similar to a Blue Moon. I gave The a star for that. read more
