I frequent many of the local microbrews and White Rooster is one of my new favorites! Located in Sparta, IL. A nice, scenic drive from St. Louis, but not too far! They have a great tasting room space that is open, with a lot of seating. A small outside patio and large garage doors that can be opened when the weather is nice. You can tell they put a lot of work and attention to detail into the building. Now to the most important part, their amazing craft beers! One of the things that makes them standout is their selection varies from porters to sours, IPAs and witbier, all which they do very well! One of their beers, Flapjack, a porter with maple syrup is in my top three of all time favorite beers. I am not a huge fan in general of IPAs, but am liking some of the east coast style IPAs and White Rooster's are awesome! If you are a fan of sours, also definitely worth the trip! An added bonus is the staff is friendly and welcoming, which makes the whole visit that much more enjoyable! Check them out! You won't be disappointed!

White Rooster Farmhouse Brewery is a relative newcomer to Saint Louis region craft beer scene, and they have already made quite a debut. Ever since opening in late March they have already established quite a reputation with some of the local beer enthusiasts, which is one of the reasons they caught my attention. This past weekend, I decided to make the journey from Saint Louis to Sparta to see if the beer lives up to the expectation; simple answer, yes it did! Located in downtown Sparta, in what used to be an old Kroger grocery store just across the street from the Sparta Police Department you will find some of the best beer in Southern Illinois. Just a note by the looks of the building on the outside you would hardly expect to find a brewery but once inside you will immediately discover that this place has character. Inside you will notice a more rustic feel with lots of wood accents, most notably are some of the tables that are made out of old doors and open ceiling rafters that make you feel like you are in an old barn. One of the features that stands out is the large barn door that separates the tap room from the brewery. The staff is friendly and extremely knowledgeable too, which makes taking a seat at the bar a pretty enjoyable experience. Although if you wish to gather around a table with some friends, as there are more than enough to cover a busy afternoon or evening. The beer here is pretty good too. Currently, White Rooster is serving a wide variety of beers ranging from their take on a cloudy styled New England styled IPA to a damn fine Berliner Weisse, but don't worry they have other mainstays like a Kolsch, Pilsner, and several Porters. In addition to about eight beers available on tap, they also have several beers available in bottles available to go, or for on premise consumption. Yes, I did manage to bring home two bottles to sample later. When I visited flights were not available. However, they expect to have the glassware shortly, until then you can go with a half pour, sip on a full pour, or go all in with a growler to take home with you. Overall if you are a craft beer fan or just in the area and looking for a good beer White Rooster is a must!

Great beer and ambiance. Retro furniture to sit back and chill. One of our fav stops when we road trip around this part of Illinois.

I liked this place. I was a bit rushed because I needed to get home but they had good beer and knowledgeable bartenders.

Sign at the end of the gravel road announced our arrival. Pulled into the lot and we were the only ones there beyond the workers late in the afternoon on a Sunday. Cash only but they have an ATM on site. Visited the brewery room and perused the different beers available on draft, in bottles, and growlers. Ordered a pizza, the green tomato and sausage. And chose a flight of beer, four for $13. Sumac Sour, Fig Porter, Dead Leaves, and Basil Saison. I enjoyed every one of them, but the Dead Leaves was my overall favorite. I decided on that one as my take home growler. I really enjoyed the green tomato sausage pizza, I enjoy a green tomato, not many restaurants have them on their menu in a state other than fried, so I had to get it. The flavors were great; the tartness of the green tomato went well with the sausage. The space is incredible, very rustic and woodsy, the perfect backdrop to the foraged beers. Every space was decked out with funky colors and artwork. I really wish it was closer, definitely a road trip to go back but feel it would be worth it in each of the seasons!

The interior has an interesting, welcoming vibe. There were regular tables, but a couple couches for comfortable seating. We saw they also had some games in a corner that you could play while eating or drinking. There's also an outdoor patio and it looks like they were setting up to have live music later that evening. We ordered a flight of beers, and thoroughly enjoyed each of the different ones. We also got some pizza, which was really good. Before leaving, we checked out the downstairs speakeasy room, which can be reserved for parties. I am sad that this restaurant is too far from me, because I would love to host a birthday party there. I definitely recommend checking this place out, and if we drive through again, I plan on stopping!

We would come back for drinks.

We ordered the fried pickles as an appetizer and that came out with the meal. I had the quesadilla and my husband had the bacon wrapped meatloaf. Nothing was bad, but it wasn't great either. I was disappointed in the drink options as well. If you are looking for beer on tap, this is your place. However, they only have cocktails on tap and a very limited selection at that. 4 wine options. Soda. Water. That's it. Unfortunately this isn't listed anywhere on the website, so we weren't expecting them to not have a bar. We ordered strawberry margaritas and they were ok. Would we go back? Not likely.

I'd seen the Route 51 Brewery a couple times when going between Carbondale and DuQuoin. Over Christmas weekend we decided to check it out along with one of my high school friends. The beer selection was excellent. We enjoyed all of the different brews we had in our flights. There is a modest selection of food. We got pretzels and pickle chips. Both were decent. I wouldn't go out of my way for the food, but it was a nice compliment to the quality beer. The facility was new, well maintained, and I dug the scorched wood tables. There is a stage where bands can play, and a reception hall nextdoor. Overall I think it is a nice addition to the brewery and winery industry that has grown over the last decade. Check it out if you are in the area.
