Unimpressive. I will say, I'm not a beer drinker, but I was excited to finally check this place out because I had heard that they have great food! It was a very limited menu. We ordered the fried pickles as an appetizer and that came out with the meal. I had the quesadilla and my husband had the bacon wrapped meatloaf. Nothing was bad, but it wasn't great either. I was disappointed in the drink options as well. If you are looking for beer on tap, this is your place. However, they only have cocktails on tap and a very limited selection at that. 4 wine options. Soda. Water. That's it. Unfortunately this isn't listed anywhere on the website, so we weren't expecting them to not have a bar. We ordered strawberry margaritas and they were ok. Would we go back? My wife and I have made it a modest habit to try out new breweries. I now live in St. Louis, but regularly make it home to Southern Illinois to visit my family. I'd seen the Route 51 Brewery a couple times when going between Carbondale and DuQuoin. Over Christmas weekend we decided to check it out along with one of my high school friends. The beer selection was excellent. We enjoyed all of the different brews we had in our flights. There is a modest selection of food. We got pretzels and pickle chips. Both were decent. I wouldn't go out of my way for the food, but it was a nice compliment to the quality beer. The facility was new, well maintained, and I dug the scorched wood tables. There is a stage where bands can play, and a reception hall nextdoor. Overall I think it is a nice addition to the brewery and winery industry that has grown over the last decade. We were here 13 minutes. We gorged on wings. We dipped our winds in our beer. Did shots of Hot Damn. Vomited in the parking lot. $15,000 dollars of gravel in the parking lot. We did donuts in the parking lot in our 1989 dodge minivan. Oh and the cannabis, my god we were so high, in the bathroom. My friend Nathan left his shirt in the toilet. Had the smoked meatloaf and it was just ok. Would have thought the menu would have been better. Beer was good. Had a flight and every flavor we had was good. It was just ok for me. Would I go back? I would not. It just isn't something to write home about. I have a brewery right up the street from my house who has good beer and not so great food. I'll just go there it's closer and I get the same stuff. read more

My wife I are frequently traveling Southern Illinois, Western Indiana, the ST Louis area and Paducah Kentucky looking for out of the way breweries and dinners for good beer and great food. Route 51 Brewery is our FAVORITE place to go and we're never disappointed. The owners, Chris and Chelsey, are the nicest people you'll meet. The beer selection and the food are both amazing! No reviews yet? Really? Well I'm happy to be the first. Let me just say how happy I am that Southern Illinois has so many cool breweries sprouting up recently. That said, it takes effort to make a cool venue that also has solid beers. Route 51 has done both. The venue is outstanding: industrial and clean with artist-designed tables and copper bars. The owner mentioned that they will soon have boutique hotel rooms (three of them I think) with balconies overlooking the brewery. Yes, the brewery. Because the taproom is integrated with the actual brewery so customers can see the process. The beers. Very solid, especially for a two-month-old establishment. Well-balanced basic styles, like Belgian ales, saisons, kölsch. Also some smoked session ales, sours, and the Cascade IPA is seriously great stuff. Worth getting a growler of it! Southern Illinois needs businesses like this. I wish the owners all the best (partly selfishly, because I want to keep coming here)! read more

BarBQue and Beer - If you are not a fan, go somewhere else. Food was very good but the fries were barely warm. No brewed Iced Tea. All great BarBque joints have brewed iced tea. The Root beer was good but a little sweet. I wish they would have 12 oz cans to go in more flavors. Less than a third of their microbrews are available canned. Staff is excellent and they have live entertainment. Inside and outside eating. A gem in the middle of nowhere. read more

TLDR: Pretty solid beers in an area you really wouldn't expect it. Located somewhat roughly halfway between Nashville, TN and St. Louis, Route 51 is a brewery and event space located in rural southern Illinois. In the middle of a 9 hour drive, we decided to take a break and were pleasantly surprised that a brewery happened to be close by. If you're from a more urban area, don't be shocked by all of the surrounding farm land. I can't say speak on the availability of Uber, Lyft, etc. out here, but if you drive yourself, there's a huge parking lot right outside Route 51. I think this is due to it being an event space that has to accommodate a huge crowd. Anyway, Route 51 is a big open space with the bar towards the back and plenty of tables and benches in between the bar and the entrance. There's a good amount of beers on tap - if I recall correctly, it was at least ten. If you can't commit to just one beer, you can always get a flight/tasters for smaller pours. I personally went with that option and tried: - Bee Sting (imperial golden ale) - Munich Dunkel - Smokin Hot Blonde (blonde ale) - Bourbon Pie (winter ale) - Coffee Stout - IPA - Blazion (saison) My personal favorite was the Munich Dunkel, which is a lager style beer, and Route 51 has actually won some awards with this beer. All of the others ranged from average to pretty good. Bee Sting and Bourbon Pie were two other standout to me. With plenty of tap, there's bound to be something for just about anyone. Service was really friendly and the staff seemed to really enjoy talking about beer - always a good thing when at a brewery. Overall, if you find yourself in the area, give this place a try. read more

This unique brewery is my go-to stop when I need to unwind after a long drive from Chicago to visit my family. The beer is brewed on site with a Master Brewer and this selection is large for a small town brewery. They offer 32 and 64 ounce growlers for take-home. Isaac their main bartender is pretty amazing too. I have to say he was a sight for sore eyes after several long drives over 2 months to visit my ailing father. Thanks Isaac! I'll be back to fill my growlers with strawberry jam and smokin' hot blonde. I recommend the coffee Porter, smoking hot blonde, strawberry jam, and blackberry saison. Strawberry Jam is my favorite and nothing I've tasted before or can find locally. read more

Rt 51 Brewing Company is a new microbrewery north of Carbondale on Route 51 (as the name suggests). The building was an old carpet factory but has been totally remodeled. The inside is very cool and was well done. There is a large main bar area with a raised stage and several TVs. There is also an upstairs area, an outdoor area, and a banquet hall. They have a good variety of house made beers as well as a few guest taps from other microbreweries. Almost every beer can be bought in a "flight size," a half size, or full size pints. This is a great feature that all microbreweries should have. Our favorite beers were the jalapeno smoky blonde, the stout, and the IPA, but they were all good. read more

Great outdoor space with good beer and awesome food. Place was pretty slow when I was there though service was on point. Had the BBQ sandwich with fries and a side salad and all were very tasteful. Can't wait to go back again. They have limited hours during the week as I believe they are closed Monday and Tuesday. read more
