We hired Vadim to manage a gut renovation of the first floor of our home in Astoria. We took out load-bearing walls and replaced them with structural beams, leveled the entire floor, replaced all of the electrical and plumbing, and installed a brand new kitchen. This was a huge amount of work that required a lot of planning and oversight, and so we knew that we needed to hire a GC who knew what he was doing and could execute quickly and who took the quality of their work seriously. From the first communication Vadim was responsive and clear with us, and his bid was lower than many of the others we received. When we decided to add things during the construction process, Vadim was fair in his pricing and did excellent work. The one thing I will say about Vadim that I think is very important in a contractor - he has integrity and wants to stand behind the work that he does. He insisted on leveling our floors, making the walls flush, and installing everything properly because he had a standard of quality that was clearly important to him not just as a business owner but as a person. He does not cut corners, he does not do amateur work, and he was straightforward with us about what things would cost and how long they would take. Along the way Vadim was there to help us with any issues that came up, and we felt very comfortable knowing he was taking care of our project. A few things I will recommend to people who are considering a renovation: Get several bids and opinions, it's important that you find a contractor who understands your vision and who you feel you can communicate well with. For us, this was Vadim. Construction in NYC is expensive, and contractors who do good work for a fair price are often booked for months out. If you are considering starting a project, start speaking with contractors now. We were lucky that Vadim was able to start our project a few weeks after we contacted him, but this could have easily been months (I understand he is booked now for the next 5 months, he's that in-demand). Monitor the work along the way and be clear if you feel something needs to be done differently, but be clear about your expectations from the start as well. Plan everything as much in advance as possible: select and buy fixtures, appliances, finishes, etc. so that nothing delays your project. If you do not have an architect or designer, you need to be aware of the things you need to be on top of as a client. It will take longer and cost more money than you originally thought it would (we went over budget because the temptation of having Vadim and his team fix additional things for us immediately was just too strong for us to resist), so manage your expectations and if possible, be flexible. Overall we were extremely happy with Vadim and his team - they were respectful, they did excellent work, and the results of our renovation after only 3 months of work are truly amazing. I would recommend him highly to anyone considering having any sort of construction work done. read more

This is the second time we've hired Vadim and he has exceeded our expectations again. We always seem to come up with some crazy project and somehow Vadim manages to execute it with the utmost professionalism (and style). We hired Vadim to repair two apartments we have. One of which had a leak in the bathroom ceiling. The other was a new purchase and required a smattering of jobs including repairing a brick wall, painting, and building a custom closet out of pipe and butcher block (yes, you read that right). Vadim went above and beyond. The first day before he started working we actually added three small extra things to the job and Vadim added them to the scope of work at no charge. He really cares about the work he signs up for and treats each place like his own. He spent a significant amount of time creating what we asked for and was very pleasant and professional the entire time. While working on the second project I could feel his excitement as the job progressed and things came together. I hired Vadim to remove a non-bearing wall in my apartment and was very pleased with the services overall. This was a relatively small job but Vadim agreed to take it on anyway. My wife and I contacted White Star and met with Vadim and Don. It was our first time doing a home renovation and we had work done in our kitchen, 1.5 bathrooms and some wallpapering. First off overall the work Vadim did was extremely well done. He is a very straight forward person which I prefer and works very fast. The only reason why I didn't give 5 stars was because the billing needs to be a bit more clear as far as pricing is concerned. At times there was some confusion but being that I made a few change orders for some unexpected reasons I understand. One other thing that could have saved some time and headache was nobody checked the specs to the bathroom sinks and only until it was too late were we informed of the issues. I suggest you go through everything with Vadim so that things go smoothly. Overall I would recommend White Star for anybody looking to renovate their apartment. I hired this company, because a friend of mine reffered them as reliable and honest construction guys in the area. The office space I've rented this September was in horrible condition. I needed the walls to be re-painted, ceiling fixed, and floor works to be done. Ceiling was fixed: they put new material and adviced us to change the lamps position in order to make them look more elegant. The walls were fixed and repainted. The floor was covered with tiles and they put the hardwood floor over it. We laso had a problem with the door, because the building is old. They fixed the space around the door and now it opens without a problem. The guys also did simple electric works: they placed new ceiling lamps, lamps in restroom and kitchenette. For the amount of money we paid, they did a really great work for us. Communication with them was very good. The works were completed in time, as promised. read more

Years ago, when we first moved into our place, I promised myself I would redo the main bathroom, which I privately called "The Heart of Darkness." The bathroom off the master bedroom was so bad it didn't even get a name--I just avoided it at all costs. Finally, after years of saving up, I got in touch with White Star Contractors to see what was possible on our budget. I am so glad I did. I cannot recommend Vadim and his crew enough. I knew exactly what I wanted in terms of style and design but they far exceeded my expectations in terms of quality and attention to detail. Every aspect of the work was done fastidiously, and Vadim came in on time (a little early, actually!), on budget, and below what others had bid. He also went above and beyond to make sure we were getting exactly what we wanted. When problems arose, as is inevitable, we were able to resolve them quickly. The end result: two dream bathrooms that are so clean and bright that I never want to leave them. When a small problem arose and I needed to contact him a month later, he had it fixed within half a day. He consistently went above and beyond, sending pictures and video every day we weren't there, helping us make correct decisions, meeting on site whenever we asked, getting here early, staying late, being upfront on cost, being honest, picking up purchases, returning items, and working as efficiently as possible. I heard him consistently turning down other work so he could focus on our project and finish ahead of schedule. He is very knowledgeable and can immediately inform me on how the water travelled, affecting adjacent areas. The estimate was sent to me shortly after he left with detailed damage report and work itemization. I want the job done right and will insist my upstair neighbor to use him. Our project was was one that was quite a headache for a contractor - in fact, I think that most other contractors would have walked away from the project. What an exceptional contractor. Vadim and his team thoroughly overhauled our two-bedroom apartment - they sanded and revarnished the floor, retiled both bathrooms and put in new cabinets, refaced the kitchen cupboards and painted throughout. They got it all done quickly (six weeks from start to finish, despite the Christmas and new year holidays) and to a very high standard indeed. Everything is beautifully finished and we are delighted with the work. Vadim gave us tips on paint and tiles, picked up materials while we were away, and helped us save money in various ways. He phoned or texted us almost every day to keep us updated on the work, was very responsive when we contacted him, and generally went out of his way to give us what we wanted. I am pleased to write this review for White Star General Contractors, who did an excellent job totally 'gut renovating' my studio apartment's bathroom and kitchenette. Vadim's bid for the job was equatable, and the job was completed within four weeks time as agreed per our contract. All I had to do was select all the materials, and purchase the appliances, with Vadim coordinating everything else. The work was done cleanly without a mess in the interior of my tiny apartment, which I strongly appreciate. I am happy to report everything works as per our original designed floor plan, Now, unlike before, I have a dishwasher installed in my tiny kitchenette, a real exhaust for the stovetop, and powerful stream shower head in the bathroom, I love the addition of all these little luxuries that I will now enjoy. I had my apartment renovated a year ago. I was happy with everything. Then one day the super knocked on my door telling me a leak was coming from my apartment. It turned out to be the refrigerator. The pipe from the sink to the automatic ice maker was leaking behind the wall and creating huge damage in the basement in the boiler room. A guy from the building tried to fix it but after he left I realized when he had pulled out my fridge it had cracked several floor tiles. So now I needed to fix my kitchen. I called several tile repair services but they did not sound reliable and they did not want to deal with leaks or any other problems. That's when I called White Star General Contractors. The owner, Vadim, said he would come look at the situation that coming Friday. Vadim said very honestly that I could replace the tiles but I would have to get the matching tiles. I was not sure I could do that since I had lost contact with the original contractors. I decided to replace everything. Vadim gave me a fair reasonable estimate. I was going to need to take out the cabinets and do a complete reinstall. However, later that week I found in my old emails the tile model numbers and I told Vadim. He was fine with redoing the estimate and it came to about half of what it could have been before. Vadim was very clear about what he was going to do. We agreed about replacing the tiles and fixing the backsplash connecting to the countertop. He would re-grout that and re-grout the bathtub and put some new polyurethane down on the wood in the front hall. It was not a big job but he seemed very motivated and focused to do a good job. Actually, he was able to start and finish the job almost two months early. We scheduled to do the work the first week of January, but a small window opened the first week of November and he agreed to do it then. I was really happy. Vadim came and did most of the work himself and he brought a very nice coworker to help with some parts. Everything went really fast. The tiles were replaced and the backsplash was re-grouted. Then Vadim found the fridge was still leaking so he repaired that. What was really nice about Vadim was that he explained what he was doing and he explained why the tiles had cracked. The other guys had not put down four points of cement to stabilize the tiles. Vadim explained things as he worked. He told me that copper pipes are not as good as PVC pipes because they bend badly. Vadim was also careful to be very clean because I had a baby in the house and my wife's mother was visiting. I was shocked...... there really was no dust or dirt or any problems. Vadim basically was able to complete the whole job in about two days. He re-grouted the bathtub and put on sealant to keep away mold. It looked fantastic. The kitchen looked great and the bathroom looked so clean and nice. Then the following week he came back and sanded the front hallway and put down some polyurethane. It looked really nice. Vadim was really polite and helpful during the whole project. I really would like to recommend to anyone who needs a general contractor to use White Star General Contractors. The owner Vadim is a great guy and a really knowledgeable professional. He listened to what I wanted and he also made good helpful suggestions. Don't waste your time calling other contractors. I just had the floor of my shower redone as it had started to leak to the downstairs apartment. Vadim and his crew did an excellent job. They had to remove the bottom of the shower and rebuild it including a new lead pan and new tiling. They finished on time, minimized the mess and delivered a very high quality end product. My building put a lot of restrictions on the types of materials, work schedule and other arbitrary restrictions and they complied with all of them. I am going to use them again for other work in my apartment. Highly recommended and very reasonable in price. read more

Needed to have my entire apartment repainted, toilets fixed, and some minor work around the apartment as our rental apartment had been occupied for the last 10 years. After calling, Vadim was kind enough to come that same day to give a general estimate of 5-6k and January as a potential start date. Definitely seemed honest and good at what he does. White Star has just finished a complete renovation of my daughter's apartment in Lincoln Square/UWS. As the "project manager," I was the contact for the renovation with the contractor. The contractor kept me in the loop with everything that was happening on the project and in a timely manner. The work was beautifully executed. (The before and after photos on this project could be straight out of a HGTV program.) The craftsmanship demonstrated is impeccable. Though the original apartment had multiple flaws, one of which were walls that were out of plumb, the corrections that were made were beautiful and seamless. In addition, the White Star workers were extremely skilled, as well as polite & considerate. Several residents of the building even commented on the politeness and neatness of the workers. We hired White Star General Contractors after reading all the positive reviews on Yelp and were very happy with our choice. Vadim and Don were very professional, punctual, and prompt in responding to all our questions and keeping us informed regarding the status of the project. They did an excellent job of installing new wooden floors and painting walls in our studio apartment. I was very impressed by the fact that they did even more than they contracted to do because they realized that it would improve the look of the apartment. Furthermore, when we had a problem with guys who worked on the other part of the project, Vadim came on Sunday and made sure that the problem was resolved. Vadim and his team just finished a complete gut renovation of our kitchen and they were amazing. We love the kitchen, their workmanship was great, and they finished the whole job in just over a week! I contacted Vadim and Don after reading the reviews on yelp. I recently gut renovated a 4 bedroom 2 bath apartment and the contractors we used for our tile work were horrific. I needed expert help in determining what could be done to fix the mess we were left with. I called Vadim and he came out to take a look the next morning. He followed up with me a few hours later with a professional proposal and time estimate. He even called me after we agreed to a date in November with the option to do it sooner, which we jumped on. Vadim and Don showed up when they said they were going to, explained everything they did with the reasons behind why. They are detail oriented perfectionists. I am so sorry not to have found them sooner!! I am so pleased, I am sure we will be calling them again when it is time to tackle another project.
