I recently used Yelp's "Project" feature for the very first time. Despite being a Yelp Elite for 10 years, I'm sometimes a bit slow to adopt the new features. However, I've long been contemplating some yard work including significant tree and brush removal, and decided this was a great time to let Yelp do its thing. I initially contacted one specific company for a quote, however, this triggered the option for posting as a project. This resulted in four additional companies contacting me. Interestingly, the original company I contacted was the worst in terms of responsiveness and I ended up with three initial quotes for my project. White Tree Service contacted me very quickly, technically second, and we discussed a time they could come by for a quote. As this was right before a weekend when the co-owner, Jose, planned to be out of town, we agreed that he would contact me on Monday and we would arrange a time. In that time, I received two other quotes - one was higher than the one I ended up with from White Tree Service and one was slightly lower. Jose contacted me as promised upon his return. He was out in a timely manner and offered me a verbal quote. Later that evening, he put the quote in writing (rather generically, but in writing). I gave it some thought overnight and weighed the three quotes. I contacted Jose the next day and we discussed the timeline for possible work. It had originally been expected to be a 3-4 day job with a planned 3-4 person crew (My yard really did suck). Jose had originally planned to start on a Tuesday. He contacted me on Sunday evening and said he could actually start on Monday morning. I was fine with that, though I work and could not be home. Jose arrived on schedule and he and his business partner contacted me multiple times throughout the day including with occasional photos of the work. He actually had a crew of six on day one and got quite a bit done. When I returned home, he had multiple pieces of equipment on the job and he'd cleared four truckloads of trees/brush. There was even more the next day. I have a weird lot for a somewhat urban setting. It was pretty clear this would not be a four day job. In fact, they finished up at the end of day two (working the second day with a crew of five). They again communicated well on day two, though a bit less than day one. They also did a controlled burn of some wood (including an old fence panel) that could not be taken to the dump. Thus, they were able to really clean things up. They cleaned up after themselves, though I had to laugh that they'd cleared out so much brush that the alley/walkway I live next to suddenly showed all its junk (which they did not and should not have cleaned up). They cleared away a LOT of brush that really gotten out of control. I appreciated that they steered themselves away from one tree that they felt was too close to a powerline. They encouraged me to contact AES. I like when companies know their limits and don't take risks. I was a little turned off when I was asked for part of the payment after the first day, however, it appeared this had been miscommunication between the two owners. This kind of thing sends up a red flag unless discussed in advance. However, it all worked out great. Overall, I'm quite pleased with the work and would easily use them again. I've used a couple companies in the past - one has since merged with another company and I wasn't satisfied with the other. White Tree Service is a strong balance of quality work and fair pricing. This was a major financial investment, however, anyone who has ever had trees removed and lawn work done knows this leans toward a costly task. My lawn now works much better and several problem trees/bushes are removed. A ridiculous amount of brush is also cleared (I mean, seriously. 4 truckloads the first day!). White Tree Service communicated well, was honest, honored all of their commitments, and got everything done in a timely manner. This was a top-notch experience and I will definitely return to them again when I need additional work done. read more
