Despite some mixed feedback, I'm giving this spot a 4-star rating, though I debated a 3. The main reason? We came late in the day, and the selection was understandably limited. Still, even if at full stock, the self-serve bakery section appeared smaller than expected. They do have a full café setup with paninis and other made-to-order items, which helps explain the "cafe" in the name--but I had hoped for more from the "bakery" side. With slim pickings, we grabbed a few macarons. They weren't bad, but they had a slightly floury texture that made them feel less fresh, and the flavors (dark cherry, blood orange, and mango) were subtle to the point of almost disappearing. Creative choices, just not as bold as I hoped. I have a feeling my opinion would improve with an earlier visit--so stay tuned for a follow-up review when I make it back during peak hours. read more

My husband and I originally came here for our weekend coffee, and ultimately decided that the lunch options were what piqued our interest here. The interior offers a decent amount of seating, and there is also exterior seating. The gal who assisted me at the front was quick to give her opinion on drinks she thought would pair well with my lunch sandwich. The offering of Milk Teas was a huge plus for me! My husband ordered a breakfast croissant while I ordered a turkey pesto sandwich. My order came with a side of pickles and chips. For drinks, my husband got a latte and I got a milk tea. I'm a customer who has been to this location multiple times, buying coffees and pastries for me and other people. I decided to come up there today to get some reading and work done in the outside dining area and after a little time was told I have to leave since I'm not buying anything. This is such a poor business practice as you've now permanently lost my business due to greed. The worker who told me was also incredibly hostile about it. I was in a corner outside behind the building away from everyone's view being quiet and respectful. I personally wouldn't support a business that treats their customers like a wallet only. This location also claims to be a "bakery" but does not bake their own items but gets them delivered which I guess is because it's maybe they're franchised as you can't even find this location on the main white windmill website. But hey the pastries are good, the drinks are below average and overpriced, so if you like supporting an owner who doesn't care about their customers go ahead and stop by and get a yummy pastry! read more

It's a very nice restaurant and the staff was very friendly and polite. I grabbed three items to try. The first was a small item that appeared to be covered in chocolate. The interior was just a whitish cake. It was kind of like a bland version of one of the chocolate-coated mini donuts you buy in a bag from Hostess or Little Debbie, except it wasn't as good. Next up was sausage bread. It looked like it would be similar to a jalapeno cheese kolache, but it missed the mark too. The addition of corn and onions just didn't work for me. I ordered the Avocado Open Face Sandwich, which looks fancy, but be aware--it's very bland. It came as a toasted slice of multigrain bread topped with cold, chunky avocado, cold sliced boiled egg, and a sprinkle of arugula. Despite the beautiful presentation, there was no seasoning and no cream cheese, as some descriptions suggest. Just plain and simple. On the bright side, the fruit cup that came with it--fresh strawberries, blueberries, and green grapes--was delicious and refreshing. One heads-up: while Yelp lists the sandwich at $10.99, the in-store price was $13.99 ($14.80 with tax). That's a noticeable difference. The café itself is beautiful--lots of natural light, plenty of seating, and a clean, peaceful environment inside and out. The restrooms were clean, and there's also a nice outdoor area to enjoy. WiFi was the biggest downside--it wasn't working at all, which cut my visit short since I needed internet access. This bakery is a not so hidden gem and super popular among locals. Been coming here for years and the selection is always excellent. Everything we've tried has been delightful and light and not too sweet. They have great espresso which they roast on site as well. Good place for a casual catch up or getting some work done. The customer service comes across as pretentious, staff will see you waiting for assistance and walk right past you without offering help - totally ignoring you. The sandwiches are overpriced for what you get, and on multiple occasions they've been missing the meat entirely, leaving just bread, cheese, and dressing. I will usually sit down for about an hour or two to study and I happened to see that there was a White Windmill in Duluth near me! It was very easy to find and the parking was convenient. The interior is very pretty and they have variety of pastry options as well as more savory sandwich options. We ordered Peach Tea and Java Chip Ice Blended along with a sandwich. Very tasty and I can tell they use fresh vegetables for their sandwiches. The drinks were also very good. The service was also very friendly. My favorite Korean bakery! Happy there's a Duluth location. They have a great variety of pastries that include the typical Korean pastries like red bean bread, peanut crumb bread, castella, etc. They also have other unique pastries and snacks. You can also order breakfast and lunch sandwiches they'll make on the spot. My favorite is the fish (boonguhbbang)! One order has 10 pieces and you can order with red bean, cream, or both. They also have a full drink menu (coffee, tea, bubble tea) and a breakfast/lunch menu. I almost want to hide this part so it doesn't get overcrowded, but the cafe has a wonderful ambience to get work done or catch-up on some reading. On my first visit, I had the chicken pomodoro panini, which was actually delicious. Today, I had the chicken Caesar salad and a vanilla latte. Both were pretty bland... For the salad, I received the wrong dressing and it didn't have any Parmesan cheese. I mean Caesar doesn't have many ingredients, so it is the Caesar dressing and Parmesan cheese that actually make the salad and gives it the flavor! Sidenote: I went in for a sausage egg and cheese croissant, but they were out of croissants. The cashier let me know I could get it on a bagel or toast instead. So I ask for it on toast. Apparently they were out of that too. So I opted for a Turkey pesto panini instead. It turns out that they actually couldn't do any hot sandwiches. Sooo, that's how I ended up with the not-so Caesar salad. The latte really didn't have any flavor. Maybe they use sugar-free vanilla. I added honey when i got back to the office so it was fine. The coconut milk tea is pretty good. They also have dairy alternatives, such as oatmilk. Overall: It's ok.... worth a try. read more

There are a few white windmills in the area and this is one of my favorites. I really enjoy the coffee latte or ice house coffee. The drinks here are consistent and have a strong coffee flavor. It is not bitter or burnt or fragrant. As for the bread breads, the peanut soboro bread is one of my favorites, but be warned that the peanut powder can get a little messy. The drinks come out quick and the staff is polite. They don't mind helping you out when selecting a drink or cake. They were kind enough to hold a cake slice for me to take home in the fridge until I left so it wouldn't be sitting out. This is the kind of cafe I go to to get work done but it is always a very good place to meet up to catch up with friends. The warm lighting is pleasant to work in. I often come to White Windmill for their milk bread which I love. The other day I also picked up a chocolate croissant and a hazelnut latte. The chocolate croissant was really good and chocolatey. I think they may have the best Korean Bakery Croissants. In addition I've tried their larger Rum Cake Pastry (I think that was what it was called) and it was delicious. This space is in a newer Mixed Use Property off Hwy 120 and the space is spacious inside and outside on their patio. I've always loved the location on Buford Highway and consider their White Mocha as one of the best. I look forward to coming here more often. read more

The staff is chill. I like the very free and inviting atmosphere. The drink I had was okay. They ran out of boba after my order. I had asked them what was in my drink that wasn't boba, and they told me, oh it just gets chopped up. I later realized it was jelly. My friend after me ordered and they were out of boba. He got jelly and I realized they put 1/2 and 1/2 probably to compensate for not having as much boba. I would go back because of the inviting environment! Love that! read more

Very decent espresso drinks. Definitely of the quality of an independent coffee shop that knows how to do espresso properly. Definitely worth getting an espresso drink here over a Starbucks. I'm not much into cakes, but they look good. Scones here are not my favorite, but at least they are not loaded with sugar, so they are decent but not great. Prices are high, though, compared to other coffee shops in the area. They bill themselves as a premium coffee shop / bakery, with the prices supposedly reflecting their superior quality. I wouldn't make this my daily watering hole because of high prices, but I do get espresso based drinks here occasionally, as this is probably the best espresso coffee shop in the radius of 3-4 miles. Full disclosure - I don't do Starbucks and consider Starbucks fast food of espresso with mediocre espresso quality and terrible taste. This shop is definitely much superior to a Starbucks. read more

Visited the White Windmill Bakery and Cafe today and had a great first time experience. You see the pastry table and the dessert counter with plenty of options to pick from as soon as you walk in. After you order you head to the back where the seating is - with high top tables, individual 2-4 person tables, and booth seating. The overall ambiance of the seating area is very nice but kind of tiny, with the music + packed seating area it can get pretty loud at times and can make it hard for conversation. I wouldn't say that there are plenty of outlets around but there were some if you're able to snag a table along the walls/booth. The food and drink options were good and honestly surprised me to the point where I had to get a drink to-go. Will definitely be returning! read more
