Our kids wanted to give us a special gift for our fortieth anniversary, so they hired the…read moreincredibly creative Ginger at Sandprints to photograph our family at our original wedding site, Sweet Springs in Los Osos. The first thing she did was ask to see our 1985 wedding album. As we shared these old photos with her, I was struck by how many family members are no longer with us--but at the same time, how many new people, including the spouses of our children and our grandkids, have come into our lives since then. A truly great photographer understands how fleeting and precious these "spots of time" really are--how recording these rare celebratory moments when the generations are gathered together in one place can become such important markers in the history of a family. This was a new thought for me, but as Ginger worked her professional magic (coaxing a dubious sixteen-year-old into a spontaneous smile, turning what could have been a long hour of posing into a laughter-filled family memory), I could see that she totally understands the important nature of her work.
