Great facility. Amazing venue. They host boxing, wrestling, and pro mma fights here. Definitely worth the trip. Will come back soon!

Great place! I was visiting Vermont in a nearby town and wanted to play some pickleball, tennis,…read moreand basketball, and possibly go for a swim or in a hot tub. This place had it all! Very reasonably priced, too! I believe it was only $27 or so for the entire day.

SHARC is Sugarbush ski mountain's little-known sidekick, which has been around for a million years…read more At some point, I think it may've been rebranded as the Sugarbush Health and Recreation Center -- the road signs say Health and Racquet Club; the website says Health and Recreation Center -- but it's still SHARC and it's still exactly the way it was 15 years ago. The space is not shiny new, and it's not fancy. At this point, it almost has a certain retro charm. We like it because it's an island of non-pretentious, semi-normalcy amidst the sometimes very high end resort towniness of the rest of the Sugarbush enterprise. This is just a plain ol' place with plain ol' people. The facilities are about on par with a YMCA. I understand there's some angst at the child mobs that take over when the weather isn't well suited for skiing. We try to be as civilized as possible with our children, but still get stinkeye from some staff. I understand the angst, and on the other side of the equation, I might share it. Children (including mine) are sometimes loud and obnoxious, the adolescent girls we shared the locker room with did leave an extraordinary amount of water on the floor. I did not enjoy being on the receiving end of angst. The staff does make sometimes heroic efforts to keep the place clean, though thoughtless patrons track grit into the pool and and locker room areas by wearing street shoes. Sometimes there's flotsam in the pool that I wish wasn't there. One day I was thoughtfully offered two towels per person, one for the pool and one for the shower, after; the second day, I received one and some attitude when I asked for a second. The range of child-accessible activities is great: There's an adventure zone set up with two bouncy castles (one a bit dark and sketchy), a bungee jumping station (for an additional fee), ping pong, tennis, basketball and tennis areas. There's a decent climbing wall available for an additional fee, as well, and we hear it comes with instruction if you want it. The sign in the climbing room said children over 1 year old were welcome to partake, though I think the website restricted the activity to children over 3 years old. Officially, the adventure zone and climbing wall are not open until 3 p.m. -- but there seems to be some flexibility in start times, especially on days when skiing is not at its best. For adults, the facilities include a cardio exercise room, a weight room, a classroom for pilates and yoga, a spin studio. The cardio room is open to the reception area, which I personally find unpleasant since I like to gasp, wheeze and sweat with greater privacy. Near the reception area, there are swim suits, swim diapers, goggles, etc... for sale if you forget your own, and light snacks (Cliff bars, other bars, water and juice), at non-exorbitant prices IIRC. If you have children and you don't want to schlep to Burlington for Get Air or the Upper Valley Aquatics Center near Hanover, SHARC is overall a great option for folks to get some of the sillies out when temperatures fall below -25 F on the mountain (or when it's 70 F in February). Could it be better? Yep. But we're glad it's there in any form.
