Water: I've never gotten in the water, so I can't judge this.. not a fan of lake water. Dam: Cool place to come for an easy outdoor walk to unwind and relax or to workout (many people run the steps up and down the dam). Everything here is free. Other: There is a frisbee golf course that people were actively using while I was there. There is a lot of easy hiking trails and scenery to enjoy. Conclusion: This is a good place to come with a family or friends. Get outside and have a picnic, go fishing, boating, take a hike, or play frisbee golf. It does get cold here in fall/winter as the wind comes off the lake, so wear a coat. I'm tired of the cold, debating running away to Mexico.

This area can be accessed from Sunbury Road (near the dam) or from Central College Rd. When entering from Central College Road, there is a nice parking area and a picnic shelter. The recreation area below the dam is spacious and allows for a variety of recreational activities.

I always heard it was a very short course so I wasn't really interested in playing here, until a friend moved to within a mile of this place and I wanted to check it out. This is a nice course which has some nice challenges for the beginner to intermediate player. If you're looking for a bigger challenge, go play Simsbury Park a few miles away. About 1/3 of the holes are under 200 ft, another 1/3 are about 200-300 ft, and the final 1/3 are over 300 ft. I'm not sure what it's like playing here during the spring/summer. There's what looks like corn fields along some of holes, wouldn't want to throw in there. Stay clear of any thorn bushes on the outside edges, they be very dense and pokey :)

Great course that will challenge your distance and accuracy. You'll have fun and a good 3 mile…read morewalk. Take a photo of the course with your phone before you start so you can easily find the next tee. (That will help on 15.) The first half of the course is wide open and long, but there are a few tricks to learn. When the signs say there is a "drop off" they actually mean cliff! A slight over correction or hook will land you 75 feet down a steep hill before your disc even begins to roll. The back 9 are in the woods- so add trees to the distance and a nice hike on the way. In the fall the back 9 will play easier, but in spring and summer you'll fight the leaves on the trees. Par here is 63, just 1 under the much shorter course at Blendon Woods just across 161. Both courses are Fun- but Hoover is a challenge. One you'll enjoy taking. ***Note*** if you put the address into google or maps it will bring you to the middle of the course- not the start. Take Central College and a left onto Cubbage, then take the first left. Follow it to the parking lot just before the dam then you'll be set.

Pros: + This course is a good challenge from pro's and normal tees. + It's well taken care of + There are some good long throwing hole and technical holes. + A & B pin placements with regular and pro tees. + Hosts several tournaments each year + 27 holes to play + The front nine is open, and the back nine is wooded, and the back back nine (A-I) is a mixture of both. Cons: - Gets crowded when the weather is nice, and I've noticed large groups play (more than 4 people) - Parking can be a problem on the weekends. It gets very busy at those times. Park near the entrance and start at hole 10, park in the main lot, for hole 1, or park in the back or main lot for hole A. The back back 9 (A-I) aren't usually that busy. Other Thoughts: Most people I know start hole A after they play 14 and then continue on to 15 after hole I, but play it as you see fit. To get to hole 15 from 14 walk through the pine tree forest, to find A, continue forward towards the road, the pro tee is on the left and the regular tee is around to the right.

There are some interesting layouts that will have you shooting blind to a few holes, but the U-Disc app layout is good. Speaking of that, the app defaults to a par 3, but the course markets at each hole will designate the course par for each hole. 16, 17 and 18 are par 4 by the signs but par 3s on the app. The course is kept up pretty well by the Columbus Parks folks, as they keep the grass cut and trash off the course. 18 holes Cart friendly, but No dogs though. Concrete pads Mach III target holes No restrooms on the course There is a water fountain midway through the course- let the water run for 10 secs to get cold! We followed signs to the course, which could have been a tad better, but we made it. We had frisbees in the car so we were kinda geared up. When you get to the course, there may be discs available for your use left by others. We lucked out by someone's generosity so I borrowed one- just to have options. There is an area before the course starts that you can play a game closer to the "basket" to get some practice. Each hole has a par like regular golf and every hole had its own challenges. It turns out I suck. I threw more of a hissy fit than the frisbee! I still enjoyed walking the course and watching my boyfriend play. It's such a beautiful park and a great way to spend the afternoon outdoors.

There's a nice size parking lot at the base of the water tower, you can't miss it from the road. There are long and short tees to choose from all through the course- and some holes are quite a challenge of you're new to disc golf. Now, to the details: There are concrete pads to shoot from Mach III baskets Markers to show you how the hole is laid out The course is Dog friendly There IS a restroom and a drink machine in the small pavilion on-site. 18 holes, and most holes have arrows to point you to the next hole, but UDisc is a good tool to use to get you to the next hole. When you compare it to other courses in the city, like Hambrick (Hoover) this is significantly better maintained. There are flat holes, wooded holes, bushes and HILLS. The final 2 holes are uphill, and a fun challenge. Beginner or pro, you won't be disappointed spending an hour or so at this course.

Not only is it a great space to come explore and learn about different types of plants, but it's pretty friendly for all ages! They have a little play area and a treehouse, as well as a path called the storybook trail where there are signs and illustrations for a nature based story along the path- all at small children's height. There are always parts of the park that are secluded, even on busy holidays or weekends - it's easy to find a peaceful place to sit, paint, journal, or relax away from too much noise. There are many benches all over so plenty of places to sit in the sun or shade.

Comparatively few invasive plants and a plethora of ones I haven't seen in other areas, even other "wild" Metro Parks. Good picnic spots, clean bathrooms, and a very pretty event space. Go there!

Lot of trails (though not QUITE as well-marked as this directionally "challenged" hiker might like!!) and there's also a nice nature center, full of great displays, and apparently, some interesting community events (and great restrooms!!). I parked near the nature center, got my bearings, and decided to hike the shorter orange and yellow trails, which looped me around back to where I started in the parking lot area. Beautiful, lots to see, "somewhat" well-marked, but I made it out, so very do-able!! I wanted to also take the "Lake Trail," but didn't realize at first that it was the paved trail that started at the Nature Center. Once I realized I was heading in the right direction, it was a quick, easy trek to the two observation "shacks" on the shores of the park's beautiful Thoreau Lake. DON'T skip this short, scenic hike... Well worth the trip!! Blendon Woods (and all the other Metro Parks in the region) is a GREAT place for a day (or more...) in nature. Picnic pavilions, playgrounds, educational programs at the nature center, lots of trails... Definitely a four season GEM!! Check it out!!

There is so much to see so much to learn and beautiful wildlife and forest. You will definitely see turkeys if you stick around either walking the road or on the trails. We have had beautiful winter walks and times in the summer herewith family.
