I brought a couple lists of plants that were known to attract pollinators in my native state of California, and tried to ask the owner if he could recommend any VT natives from similar families (i.e. native penstemon, asters, etc.). He became infuriated during the conversation, at which point he seemed to snap and began screaming at me. When I attempted to tell him I felt like he was attacking me verbally, he responded with "I am attacking you". My partner and I left immediately, and will never return. Beautiful garden, but awful, inexcusable behavior by the owner. As a woman, I have never been more deeply offended or frightened by the actions of a total stranger. I left feeling completely violated and disrespected.

In this case, the store is way far, and the experience was so good, I had to break my rule. We found this store by Googling a product that a local organic landscaper told us to use on our lawn, called "Compost Tea" by a company called S.O.S for Your Soil. When we researched it, we saw anyone can make a homemade compost tea from their own compost (if you have some and it's good enough), but the natural lawn specialist we consulted told us this product would help. Long story short, Vermont Wildflower Farm carries this product, and we needed enough of it to get free shipping, which made it cheaper to buy from them than to run out to the native plant nursery near us. What was even better was the coupon code offered by Vermont Wildflower Farm, which saved us even more to just sit at home and click on the computer to order. AWESOME! I also called to speak to the man at Vermont Wildflower Farm to confirm this deal, and he was very gracious and helpful. He was very cheerful compared to the people around here. Must be the beautiful countryside up there. :-) Our order came quickly and they even included a free sample of their wildflower seeds, which I was tempted to buy when I shopped online, but now I can try them in our soil and see how they do and go buy more. That was a great touch! Next time we are up their way we will be sure to stop in. For now, we have brewed up our multiple, multiple 5-gallon buckets of compost tea and have treated the lawn and shrubs. Everything is looking really good so far. From start to finish we had an excellent experience. My 95 year old mother lost 12 ash trees on her…read moreproperty and wanted to replace trees. We took her to Horseford and a wonderful gentleman took her around to view different options. She chose 4 trees with their support and we arranged for delivery and planting in Plattsburgh NY. The team of Tucker, Ethan, Colleen and one other terrific guy (I didn't get his name as he was working hard) planted the trees and asked each time if we were pleased with the placement, gave us care instructions and cleaned up every inch of space they worked on. I can't thank them enough for the wonderful job they did. We'll be back for more trees and a great experience.

Unfortunately, the voles got a couple and we returned for replacements. Several employees were seen watering and zooming around in small trucks and no one offered to help us.
