I brought a couple lists of plants that were known to attract pollinators in my native state of California, and tried to ask the owner if he could recommend any VT natives from similar families (i.e. native penstemon, asters, etc.). He became infuriated during the conversation, at which point he seemed to snap and began screaming at me. When I attempted to tell him I felt like he was attacking me verbally, he responded with "I am attacking you". My partner and I left immediately, and will never return. Beautiful garden, but awful, inexcusable behavior by the owner. As a woman, I have never been more deeply offended or frightened by the actions of a total stranger. I left feeling completely violated and disrespected.

We have known Kate for over ten years and we shop at her nursery every year. We were just there a…read morefew days ago buying a Lilly and some lavender plants. Parking is very tight. Try to use the few spaces in the lot on the street. There is no parking on the dirt road between the house and gardens. The gardens are beautiful in mid-summer (now). She has a wide selection of flowering plants and herbs. All of them are selected for the cold climate of northern Vermont. It is a beautiful walk to just walk through the gardens. If you go back out to the dirt road you can cross the bridge (2 minute walk) and visit the Lilly garden on the other side. When they are all in bloom, it is an explosion of color. Be sure to check out the river banks and slopes. Those are a mixture of Vermont wild flowers and flowers that Kate planted. Most of the plants are for sale. She will dig plants and sell them if she doesn't have them in pots.

If you are looking for a quality fruit tree or bush that you can take home and grow at your house, you will get what you are looking for.

There isn't even a real sign on the road. Even with the initial hesitation, we did get out and look at the plants and decided to leave. The trees we looked at were in one gallon pots and were root-bound and beginning to root into the ground. The soil in each pot was about 1/3rd to 1/2 the pot, which means the trees were in there for at least 3-4 years and needed to be repotted. The worst was the price! For a sickly tree that was maybe 18", the price was $75!! There are many other nurseries that will ship bigger and healthier trees for half the price. I'm all for supporting business in my home state of Vermont, but I expect a decent quality. The web site is VERY deceptive. If your looking for amusement and want to see poorly kept and suffering plant specimens, by all means make the trip to visit. But DO NOT PURCHASE from this nursery.

I explained that I didn't think that was fair and that usually when this happens stores honor the price at which it was originally labeled. The response I received was, "I understand " but there was no plan to honor the original label. I left the store without the plant and will likely never go back. The difference in price was around 15$. At this point they didn't deserve my money and should understand that I can buy that plant anywhere. Their catalog is extensive and laid out in a way that was really user friendly. They also have a stand at the Burlington Farmer's Market - so you can find them there if you don't feel like traveling out to Jericho (though I suggest you do). The staff was knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and very eager to help me select all the best options. The service is friendly, the prices are reasonable, and the products are beautiful. I feel like most flower shops now a days have inflated prices and aren't very interested in really giving you a quality product unless you're spending a lot of money (and the flowers are over priced). Aren't flowers meant to make people happy... and generally flower shops are opened by people who want to share that?! At least Peck's has kept to this standard. They're more than happy to make you a fresh little "thank you" bouquet, to the over the top "i love you" rose bouquet... each with equal amount of care and character. Emily is a treat to work with, she's down to earth, and friendly. She'll work with you to put together a nice little bouquet you're picking up on the way home from work or something specific for an occasion. My review, comes with specific wedding flower experience. This can especially be a hard time, where the simple word 'wedding' increases price and stress. Not here, you tell them what you're looking for, no matter the vagueness of your vision or down to the specifics you have dreamed of, they can do it... and they make it an enjoyable experience! Houghton's is only open a few months out of the year, but they do a booming business when they are…read moreopen. They used to have the best prices in Vermont. About a year ago they raised their prices so they are now equivalent in price to other nurseries. There are two greenhouses filled with plants plus a small outdoor area with more plants. The reason we go to Houghton's is their hanging baskets of flowers. Whoever designs them really has an eye for putting the right flowers and colors together. We usually buy two a year and they bloom all summer. As I said Houghton's is only open until July. When they close they let the employees take home the plants they want. We heard rumors that they also donate a batch of flowers to local nursing homes in July. Parking can be a problem on weekends and they have a parking attendant who directs you to open spots. Be on the lookout for him as you approach the business.
