    Custom elevation design

I always wanted to build a custom modern home and Whitestone Custom Homes delivered beyond expectations! Covid and work at home forced me into the new home market in January 2021, when prices were surging and inventory was lacking Whitestone stood out amongst the other production builders because of they were open to higher levels of customization than the other builders, so I contracted to build a custom floor plan in January 2021. Also Whitestone's base level of materials and trim seemed a notch above other builders in the same neighborhood My sales agent Bill Fitch was an amazing customer advocate who was supportive of my design ideas and ensured that the important details were never missed. A team of professionals behind the scenes estimated, architected, designed, and built the home as envisioned. Were there delays?...Yes, but I anticipated them. Were there problems?...Nothing that couldn't be resolved. Would I do it again?...You Betcha! Whitestone built me a stunning custom modern home at a very fair and reasonable price, and I am very pleased.

To say that I am disappointed with both the service and state of the home we moved into is like…read moresaying that the surface of the sun is mildly warm. Communication from the beginning has been abysmal. Left multiple messages as did our Realtor before receiving communication 5 days later! This should have been a red flag. Then on move in day, after paying more than $3,000 in "security deposits, pet deposits, cleaning deposits, pet fees, etc.", my wife arrives with our 7 week old to get the keys and do a walkthrough with Kristy at 1038, 8 minutes after the agreed upon time of 1030 (mind you, she had moved the time up 30 min the day before and she had an appt at 11:15) and having texted Kristy at 10:10 (no reply) informing her that there was a little traffic delay (we were driving in from Fort Worth) to find no one here. Kristy had left. Kristy then informs my wife that she has to "pay the remainder of our balance" before she will give my wife the code to the lock box to get the keys out. Now, regardless of the fact that we have already paid more than $3,000, the "remainder of our balance" is the rent for June! We moved in after paying our prorated rent on May 28th. All the communication via email previously (tenet ledger) had stated that the rent for June was due 6/1/21. My wife is sitting in the driveway with a carful of stuff and an infant who is hot and has been screaming for the last 20 min in traffic and is at her wits end. She texts Kristy again (10:40) and asks if she can please just have the keys to the house so she can get our infant son somewhere cool and calm him down prior to paying whatever balance is remaining. Kristy ghosts her. So she logs on and pays rent for June, from her phone with a credit card. She is of course charged a $50 service fee for using a credit card that could have been avoided if I was told this was due at move in. I was driving a 20' Uhaul truck at the time and not included in any of this communication by Kristy. So I get there around noon to a livid wife who has had about the worst "welcome to San Antonio" you can get. Then when we finally meet with Kristy for a "walkthrough" where she didn't walk through the house at all, but sit at our table and go over paperwork. I bring up all my concerns with our move in experience. Instead of letting me finish any of my sentences and apologize for literally any of the things that had happened, she made numerous excuses (including "well I didn't know you had an infant - first of all, yes you did he is on the lease. Secondly, it should matter. That isn't how you treat people regardless of if they have an infant). So instead of a simple apology we are met with a plethora of excuses while being constantly interrupted. Now to the house. It is abundantly clear that no one has done anything to the house or yard since it was purchased. Tons of holes in the walls that could easily be painted over, yard full of overgrown weeds, thumb tacks still in walls from previous owners, the list goes on (seriously it's a 33 page report via mywalkthrough app). Probably the worst part for me was that the floor is filthy. We paid a $550 cleaning deposit and I know the house has been empty since May 7th (because that's when the MLS said it was available for move in) sooooo I'm not sure what the deal is, but clearly no one cares enough to check it. I would not recommend the Evey Edwards group to my worst enemy. How people can operate like this and still have business must be solely a function of the market and ideally will cease to exist when demand more closely matches supply.

My husband rented a house from them. We thought going in that they would be thorough and…read moreresponsible, as they made us jump through so many hoops, even requesting a photo of our dog on the application. It's a pain in the neck to apply, but we thought it was a good sign. So that when my husband saw a very dirty house, and they told him don't worry, by the time you get back in town it will be cleaned, we believed them. Things were so dirty, it made me retch. We cleaned grime off stove, mini-blinds, refrigerator. The owner left the biggest mess of crap in the garage, we just ignored it, but it was harder to ignore what looked like blood stains on the garage walls. Just gross. We had signed a lease and decided to man up and deal with it. The plumbing did not work the day we moved in. We had work orders put in, and at first they were very responsive. We got the plumbing worked out in one bathroom, and just closed the door to the other bathroom, as it was so dirty I really didn't want to see it anyhow. Fast forward to move out. We left the state, and got charged for all sorts of things, some that were present upon move in, others that were done by the plumbers Evey Edwards had sent themselves. They had NO RECORD of our work requests - how does that even happen? It was intimated that the maintenance manager was a mess and had been fired, but I don't know. Two things I will say - Kristy was good to work with on our move out. We had to leave early and break the lease, and there was an $750 fee, but they did then turn around and re-rent the house quickly. But dang, overall we lost $1300 on unrefunded deposits, for things that had been preexisting on move in. They should have paid me $1300 for taking care of the filth - it was alot cleaner at move out than we initially found it. They even charged us to have a peephole installed on the front door. Are you kidding me? If you are desperate enough to rent from them, make sure you have photos of every bit of damage and mess when you move in - we did not have that as we did not arrive in town until after the date they requested the move in report, and we were not allowed to file it after that date. But better over all to just rent elsewhere.

From the day we moved in, our experience has been disappointing. We've submitted multiple maintenance requests that have either gone unanswered or been marked as completed without anyone ever coming to our home. One of the most concerning issues is a large hole our neighbor's dog dug under the fence, allowing it access to our backyard. I was told they would "look into it, and call me back" but I never received a follow-up. Despite multiple calls, voicemails, and an online work order, the issue remains unresolved weeks later. We also reported an unbalanced ceiling fan that appears unsafe to use. After waiting over two months, I received a notification stating the repair had been completed, even though no one ever came to inspect or fix it. Communication has been extremely poor. Calls are rarely returned, voicemails go unanswered, and it feels nearly impossible to get a response from maintenance, the tenant coordinator, or Property Manager Melisa Day. Another frustration is that because these are new construction townhomes, tenants are expected to coordinate directly with vendors for certain repairs. That responsibility should fall on property management, not the tenant. To make matters worse, there is a significant gnat infestation. Despite paying for private pest control every two months and purchasing Zevo traps at my own expense, the problem persists. After speaking with several neighbors, I learned this is a community-wide issue. My experience has left me feeling that once the lease is signed, tenant concerns are no longer a priority. If you are considering renting here, I encourage you to carefully research the property before making your decision. ( we are very clean people three of those zevos have been there for 5 days, one I just changed yesterday.)
