AWESOME experience working with Steve (owner) and Melissa (processor) of New Horizon Mortgage!!! Steve and Melissa made things very clear and easy and communicated well throughout the process. Steve's decades of experience in the mortgage business were also very evident. We had been in a FHA loan for four years (26 years left) and Steve refinanced us into a conventional mortgage with a lower interest rate that also removed the mortgage insurance. Thanks to the lower rate and removal of the mortgage insurance, we now pay almost $200 less per month, and Steve even got us a shorter term (our new mortgage ends in 25 years rather than 26)! One of the keys to allowing us to move into a conventional mortgage was that our house had appreciated. I was a little nervous about spending hundreds on an appraisal and not knowing if our house would get a high enough appraisal, so Steve checked with his contacts in the real estate business to get a professional estimate on the value of the house (for no extra charge)! His contacts were confident that our house would appraise at the value we needed, and it did. New Horizon is a family business (Steve's son Stewart works there too) and it's clear how much they care about it by the way they go the extra mile for their customers. It's also clear that Steve has built good relationships in the mortgage business over the years (lenders, appraisers, title company, etc.), which is important to getting the best deal and being treated well. For example, the lady at the title company (Trinity Title) spoke very well of Steve and took good care of us - it was clear they had a good relationship and had done a lot of business together over the years. Closing costs were low too! I have a friend who works at USAA in their mortgage compliance department. I had him look over all the fees, and he said there wasn't a single bogus fee and that the cost for every fee was very reasonable. Steve was also able to work it out to where our first payment on our new loan was a few months after our last payment on the old loan, so the money we normally would have paid for our mortgage for that couple of months essentially became the money we needed for our closing costs. I am very pleased with the service New Horizon Mortgage provided me. At first I was looking to buy my home through USAA using the VA Home Loan program but after reading some of the reviews from people who bought their homes through USAA I decided to pass.
