First, if you've never had Whitey's, you should go try it. I worked at this Whitey's during high school and some breaks during college. Of course I had to visit when I was back in town. The flavors are still consistent with what they've always been but they have added some new items. I thought it was interesting that I received my one dip in a cup that used to be used for two dips and the two dip was in the larger cup. I guess that's a change! But with the ever increasing prices it was nice to think I got a little more than I used to. I also noticed that there was no more yogurt? It was never that popular so not too surprising. This was a great place to work, I appreciated the order, cleanliness, and high expectations. You could always keep busy with it being a popular business. Customers were typically happy because it's ice cream. You also bulked up that forearm muscle. Tips: - there is a secret menu (cinnamon toast crunch shake, blueberry pie shake, and others I've forgotten) - you can only go wrong if you order Black Walnut, other flavors are all pretty good. My favorites were Swiss Almond Chocolate and White Chocolate Raspberry if you're looking to try something new - tips are accepted (I didn't go in so not sure if they updated the pay thing to ask if you want to tip) but never necessary. We were in town for a softball tournament and a local resident told us we had to try Whitey's. When that happens, you know you won't be disappointed. Being from Michigan we had never heard of this business and now we wish one was closer to us. The ice cream itself was good, but it was a little overpriced. There's no specialty cones either, and no indoor or outdoor seating, so you have to eat in the car. It's also a little unclear what topping options they had as well, and it's hard to see which ice cream you are ordering as there is just pictures and names of each ice cream on the wall rather than looking into the bins of ice cream yourself. I was visiting Iowa for a family emergency, and decided to stop by Whitey's. I've never been here because the drive through line was always long, but this time we went in. It's been awhile since I was in an ice cream shop where they make everything by hand and I was not disappointed. I had a vanilla shake with two kinds of candy and it was fabulous. The ice cream was so much better than "grocery store" ice cream and I thoroughly enjoyed every bite - because I did have to eat it with a spoon since it was too thick for a straw. It was fun watching the staff make all the orders and the machine they used for the shakes was pretty funny - it was like a small shake weight and they had to keep moving the cup up and down. I guess it doesn't take much to keep me amused but it was a great experience and I wish there was one in Colorado. This is the first time I got some Whitey's ice cream and it did not disappoint. I got a strawberry frozen yogurt except it was freshly made for me with frozen strawberries and 97.5% fat free vanilla ice cream. The final product was light, airy and creamy. You can customize it with any other fruits. They take the fat free ice cream and fruit of your choice and blend them together. In addition, they have all kinds of ice cream, floats, sundaes, malts, shakes and more. I went through drive through but the inside was bright, clean with some old school menu, font and signage. I've been coming here since I was a baby, this location in particular. With that in mind I have a lot of fond memories of good quality ice cream and friendly service. The line at whiteys is to be expected and usually the staff is great and getting everyone taken care of in a relatively short amount of time. However, the last few times I've gone - in the past 3 months or so I've had an issue with every one of my shakes. They are loaded with ice chunks, like the ice cream was thawed, refrozen, and then the staff chipped the ice off the side of the pail and threw it in my shake. It's really weird and an unwanted texture to mix soft ice cream with hard crunchy ice in each spoonful of my shake. Maybe it's an issue with shipping or a broken freezer but I hope it gets fixed, cause the shakes cost too much to be having this issue consistently. read more

This is an upgrade from your local Dairy Queen. Went here with a friend from the area as he suggested it and was not disappointed one bit. Got a Reese's shake and it tasted better than a DQ blizzard. Whitey's delivers more of a fresh ice cream flavor and all of the candy is mixed in fresh, right out of the package. Since this is not a very big chain, you will see somewhat higher of prices but they are reasonable. My only complaint was having to stand in line for 15 minutes, but it was a sunny day so what can you expect. read more

I had high expectations for this place and I hate to say it, but their ice cream isn't amazing. I could probably get more bang for my buck elsewhere (idk bout elsewhere in the quad cities though). It was very crowded, but they seemed pretty efficient. Kind of all over the place though... I had 2 scoops of ice cream. ended up getting Moose Tracks and Sgt. Camo. They weren't nearly as amazing as I hoped. The Ice cream wasn't creamy enough. I had a taste of their shakes though and those were pretty good. My favorite one I tried was the strawberry with chocolate mix ins. You can choose from cones, dishes, sundaes, malts, frozen (custom) yogurts, and much more - my personal favorites are the Raspberry Frozen Yogurt and Graham Central Station (graham cracker galore).
