One of the many things I enjoy about the Quad Cities is Whitey's Ice Cream. The best ice cream I've ever had! Today I visited the Bettendorf location. And the young crew working there did not disappoint me. Excellent friendly service. After having a hard time making up my mind, due to all of the good choices. I went with one of my all time favorites. The Hot Fudge Boston. In little time the young lady had it made for me. I walked out happy! Terrific job! read more

Delicious ice cream. They have a huge variety of flavors and items to choose from and they are fast. The line inside and drive thru were really long but once you get in line they go fast. It only took about 5 minutes until I was eating my ice cream. Will definitely be returning. read more

Yep...still the best ice cream around! After living in Chicago for over 3 years, still nothing compares! Whether you are getting a freshly made frozen yogurt or buying a half gallon to go, this is the best ice cream around. My personal favorite is the shake. They have so many flavors to choose from, you can't go wrong! They have tons of different flavors of ice cream to choose from (everything is made locally), bostons, floats, shakes and malts, cones, smoothies, frozen yogurt, splits, bars, you name it! There is literally something for everyone here. Shakes are mixed by hand (so glad they finally have smalls now), and the seasonal flavors are the best! No one makes a Pumpkin shake like this place! The service is friendly and fast. Not to mention the drive through (definite perk). If you are coming through the area, this is a must stop! read more

I grew up in the quad cities and over the past two decades have probably tried everything on the menu at least once. I had the pleasure of riding my bicycle here in my childhood - long before I had a concept of calories or grams of fat - and indulging in everything from the malts and shakes to the smootheys and slushies. Its all delicious and relatively inexpensive. And they are always willing to customize anything exactly how you want it. My advice for picking from the myriad flavor combinations is to ask the oldest person in line what they are ordering - they are probably a local whiteys veteran and probably know exactly what to order. I must admit I take the general friendliness and charm for granted - you expect nothing less from a quad cities establishment. Whitey's is the kind of place parents take a whole van of children after a YMCA soccer game and the kind of place troupes of teenagers congregate on warm summer nights. And for me, in my elderly, post childhood years, its the place I return to remember all of those good times and indulge in one of the few things in Bettendorf that is truly worth the time on the treadmill. read more

When I was a kid living many hundreds of miles from Iowa, my parents had a friend from the Quad Cities who made malted milkshakes for us whenever we were over at his house. They were delicious malteds, and the quality of those shakes is one of the few clear memories of my childhood, but he always insisted they were never as good as those of Whitey's. When we finally passed through the area, he directed us to the Bettendorf location, his personal favorite. I thought it couldn't possibly live up to an entire ice-cream-filled childhood of expectation. Much to my surprise, it was actually a very impressive milkshake. The malt flavor was very clear in the shake, but it wasn't quite so overwhelming as to make it thirst-inducing. The texture of the blended shake was too thick for a straw, but definitely still shake-like rather than ice-cream-like. I could understand the years of hype. read more

Huge fantastic menu of insanely good ice cream. I haven't had a huge selection of their ice cream treats...mainly have stuck to the hard ice cream....but it's hard to stray from something that is so good. Their Sgt. Camo ice cream was like they had read my diary and made the ice cream just for me. The inside of the store is reminiscent to old ice cream parlors and even the staff are dressed accordingly. Their staff is a bit of a nice surprise. You never know what you're going to get when you walk into a store that is completely staffed by teenagers...but these kids do a great job and always have smiles. The first time you order you get nerved out as they take your order without writing anything down...but not once have they ever messed up an order or skipped a beat. The only issue that we have had with this place is that it is too close to our house and that we find our car magically stopping there on the way home or on the way out. read more

I went there tonight with a friend and we waited in the drive thru for 30 mins!!! When the guy finally came out w our shakes we didn't even want them anymore. When we started to eat them they were made wrong. I ordered a cookie dough shake and it was all blended together with no cookie dough so basically it was a chocolate shake. When reviewing a chain, pretty much, it's not so much about the food product as it is the service at a given location. I have been visiting Iowa for many years. Iowans take their ice cream, along with their meat and potatoes, very seriously. Iowans come in two categories... those fighting heart disease and cardiopulmonary collapse and those dying from heart disease and cardiopulmonary collapse. Most Iowans over the age of 40, men and women alike, look like they played football in high school or college. Enter Whitey's Ice Cream, which is available at a number of locations in Iowa and across the Mississippi River in Illinois in what locals refer to as the Quad Cities. Whitey's Ice Cream is, in a word, phenomenal. However, I have learned that location matters when it comes to the level and quality of customer service at various Whitey's Ice Cream locations. Bettendorf is a city in Iowa with a smallish population mostly comprised of financially upper class white folk. So too is the clientele at the Whitey's Ice Cream location in Bettendorf. You can sit outside for an hour at a time and never see anyone of color entering or exiting the store. I mentioned this because there is an air of entitlement and superiority oozing from the teenagers who work at this location. On numerous visits I have observed first hand these indulged teen brats discussing the appearance of customers waiting to place orders in addition to the ongoing level of basic teenage gossip that you might expect of unsupervised, immature kids in retail. Add to that a parking lot that is a race track for throngs of teenage drivers behind the wheels of very expensive, powerful cars purchased by mommy and daddy. This is the only location of Whitey's in the local area where this is allowed to occur. For these reasons, I give Whitey's Ice Cream 5 stars, 10 Stars if it were possible. However, as to this particular location, where Muffy and Buffy and Biff work behind the counter barely sniffing at customers, Bettendorf Whitey's gets a generous three stars. read more

I almost always have a good experience at this place. Went there on Sunday and the nice young man in a Whiteys mask was very helpful and efficient. I'd like to consider myself a regular seeing as I go there many times. This past Sunday the line was extremely long but you can tell that those kids worked their butts off to keep the line from reaching the road and overall it wasn't an awful wait. I do wish that some of the employees didn't give me attitude. I've noticed that the young men that work here are very nice, some of the girls are very sweet as well. However a few weeks ago I came to get ice cream and this one girl took my order and wasn't very nice to me. She had a lot of attitude and she acted like she really didn't care. She was rude and overall made my already bad day worse (I don't remember her name but she was taller and had blonde hair). I ordered ice cream, not attitude! However that being said, most of the employees are very nice and MOST of them don't let their last customer affect the next one. Overall great product, decent price and good customer service from SOME of the employees. 10/10 read more

Great place to stop and get a cone! I love the chocolate chip cookie dough. It is staffed by the typical high school crowd but they are very polite. I would highly suggest trying this place, especially if you have children with you. Just be warned it can be pricy! read more

I always heard about Whitey's from my parents as a kid - they went to college in the quad cities and Whitey's (a different location) was a big part of their experience. I'm so glad I got to go to a Whitey's with my Dad and share his memories and taste some fabulous ice cream. According to my Dad, the thing to get is the shake, (which is really more of a "concrete" or "blizzard" for those more familiar with Culver's or Dairy Queen nomenclature), and I couldn't agree more. Ice cream, shakes and malts are great, no mistake. However, because they have a drive thru as well as inside service, when they are busy, the inside line seems to be second to the outside drive thru. Very unhealthy, even as ice cream goes. Almost all, if not all of their food/ice cream contains transfat. Sure, if you are looking for ice cream, you may not care about eating something healthy. However, there are far healthier and tastier ice creams out there, even at the grocery store. One redeeming feature about Whitey's, though, is that they have many unique and interesting flavor concoctions. They also make your order for you on the spot using fresh fruits, candies, etc. The downside is that it is primarily all soft serve ice cream like you find at a buffet and it is kind of gross. For ice cream lovers, I would recommend Baskin Robbins, Coldstone, Dairy Queen, or even your local supermarket to get a healthier and more appetizing fix. read more

It's not homemade that's for sure. Just look at the ingredients on the back of the ice cream container, it's got additives & artificial flavoring & coloring. Yuck!!!! I think Peach Wave is much better. Even Aldi's ice cream taste better than Whitey's. You can always buy some candy bars, freeze them & chop them up, then throw them into some vanilla ice cream & make a shake out of it. How difficult is that.?
