I love the drive-thru style of this chain, you are able to try the flavors before you make a choice, from the comforts of your own car. The staff is friendly and accommodating. This was particularly comforting, especially since no one wears masks in this area. I decided on a seasonal flavor, banana graham and it was fantastic. Rich, creamy, and the real banana flavor made for a frozen banana pudding-like treat. My friends come here often and today was no different. They decided on cherry and mint cookies and cream, respectively. I know if I come back to the quad cities, I'll stop by for the goods. read more

While I did live in Iowa for a little over a year and my partner is a born and raised Midwestern boy, I admittedly only went to Whitey's once or twice--the closest location to us being inside a mall food court. The ice cream was always good, but while back in the QC visiting family this weekend, my partner informed me that I hadn't had -real- Whitey's yet. Challenge accepted. A bright light shining on an otherwise quiet street at this time on a Sunday night, I was ready to get down with some really solidly good ice cream from some of the masters themselves. The staff was friendly, attentive, and good spirited. They had lovely holiday decorations (couldn't resist snapping a quick photo) and a huge case full of ready made ice cream cakes and hand packed pints. I went for a scoop of butter pecan with a scoop of chocolate chip cookie dough (fun fact, Whitey's claims to be the originator of cookie dough ice cream) in a fresh waffle bowl. The butter pecan was...I'm just gonna say it, LIKE BUTTER. The balance of the sweetness of the ice cream with the texture of pecans was *chefs kiss*. My partner got a vanilla malt which was thick, rich, and a steal at twice the price. All in all, I feel like I've had a more authentic Midwestern ice cream experience and I owe it all to the bright light at the end of the ice cream bar. read more

Me and my brother have been called many things (because of our Middle Eastern heritage, and other things), but Whiteys is not something we've often been called. Which is a shame because this ice cream and these shakes are actually good. Whitey's has enjoyable ice cream and delicious shakes but not quite five star quality for me. Priced pretty reasonably for the region which is generally a pretty cheap region. I'm definitely a fan. I had some of my material deleted off this page which was a shame, and the service was just okay. I'll come back in future, though, for sure. read more

At first, we were like why pay for a scoop if you could get the same amount for a pint? WELL if you're here for a scoop of ice cream you are WRONG! :) You come here for their shake. OMG they're delicious. We just got to Rock Island, IL a couple of weeks ago and this place is one of our favorite places to go. We had their smores special and loved it. I ordered the same thing for the first 20 years I visited Whitey's (mint chocolate chip ice cream in a waffle cone), but I've recently branched out. Now I LOVE graham central station. The shakes and malts are also good! There is a vast sundae menu that I've never explored with many promising options as well. Something for everyone! From the earliest of times, I can remember eating Whitey's. As such I can remember eating ice cream from the time it was located only in Moline, to the time when they opened up a small shop in Rock Island. Fast forward to the present. They moved into a larger building with a much improved and fully paved parking lot(Thank God. I nearly had an accident a million times maneuvering in and out of the old postage stampe sized old parking lot). It's Ice cream nirvana. Shakes, malts, sundaes, Boston's, with a ton of different ice cream flavors and toppings. Mint chocolate chip is my favorite from here, but butter pecan, black cherry(They use real freaking chunks!), peppermint, chocolate, chocolate peanut butter revel, pumpkin, and cinnamon are all good. At one time I think I tried all the flavors, but I realized tonight that they've added on since then to include flavors like the Smurf, Moose Tracks, and others. After traversing the U.S., this is one of the best places I've been to so far. The only place that might come close is Petersen's out in the Chicago burbs. read more

Like any good Quad Citian, Whitey's is always my first stop when I come home. I encourage pretty much every one of my friends to visit me at home just to try it. There are no bad choices here, but I'm particularly a fan of the shakes. There are tons of flavors. Last night, I had a small nutty bar shake and it blew my mind, just like every other treat I've gotten here. It's usually pretty busy in the summer so be prepared for a line. I find this ice cream over priced. $5 for a shake/malt when you can get a quart of premium at the grocery store for half that. This is one of the best ice cream places EVER. I compare all ice cream with Fosselman's back in my hometown. My bf is from RI and he's always talking about how great the shakes are at Whiteys. I thought, give me a break, how can anyone have better ice cream than Fosselman's? So when we go and visit his parents in RI, we stop by and the ice cream here is truly spectacular. The ice cream is way rich (and now that I've been to a couple of other ice cream parlors in the Midwest, I think they are all richer...maybe the abundance of cows??), wonderfully dense. I love their banana ice cream which I kinda judge as one of those difficult flavors to get right because it can be so artificial. Shakes are thick but a little too much for me. I wish they had more fruity flavors but again, I think that is a Midwest thing. Lots of fudge, caramel, etc. The atmosphere is kind of cool. They have this signature white/red look, but a little bit too clinical for me. I'll be sure to stop by next time I'm around. read more
