This is a new facility that they moved it to a nearby spot. There is so much land in this area, but the dog park only takes a small amount of it. They could've done better in terms of setting up more space and putting a few more benches and a water source for the dogs. My other comment is that the entry gate is almost impossible to hold open and let your dog out at the same time when exiting. it's extremely heavy due to the hydraulic action of the hinge. This dog park is an example of the way such parks should be established. Dogs are animals and humans need to recognize the risks involved in having a dog park including the possibility that even nice dogs don't love all other dogs and people. The measures Whitpain used to make this a safe dog park including requiring up to date vaccinations are for safety. It is well known that less controlled dog parks can result in canine disease spreading. In addition many people do not train their dogs and have little control over them. Dogs can be triggered and may bite or attack other dogs or humans trying to separate them. Humans are responsible for ensuring such parks are safe for dogs and people. I see nothing wrong with requiring a bit of education of dog owners regarding canine behaviors and warning signs to protect all involved. If you don't like the rules don't join. There are plenty of parks around with zero controls- good luck because you may need it. read more

Woof woof ruff woof woof woof awoooo! ~Translation~ I start whining as soon as we pull into the driveway because I know we are at the best dog park in town! This is a MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED dog park, and it is well worth it because it gives you a somewhat safer state of mind knowing that there is accountability of who comes in and out of the dog park. Annual membership is $35 for residents of Whitpain and $50 for non-residents which is a very reasonable fee. If you go to the township's website there is orientation sign ups that are mandatory. It is just a basic class to go over dog park etiquette and dog behavior. I also like that the parking is right next to the dog park and there is alot of visibility. They recently added lights and soon water! Everyone that I met is friendly (humans and dogs alike) and there is a good regular crowd between dinner time and sunset. My experience here is definitely better than that of other dog parks. Dog owners are actively engaged with their dogs and sometimes conversating with other humans. There is a small dog area that seems like it is not used as often as the big dog area. Depending on your comfort level and your type of dog, the small dogs are sometimes in on the big dog side and having fun too! read more

I may change my review as I have visited this park several times but we have yet to join. My experience has been that it is clean, mostly empty during the day, and difficult to join. They require a vet cert for immunizations, an orientation class, several page application, and there is a yearly fee of $35 that ONLY renews January 1st. There is no partial fee if you join mid year. So if you sign up in September, its still $35 and lasts until Jan 1. January in PA is not when people are thinking DOG PARK. It is clean, and well maintained. It has minimal amusement and obstacles. The people there are friendly to each other, but if you are not a member, it is difficult to strike up a conversation from the outside of the fence, Lol. You are IN or OUT, literally. read more

Have fun at this dump, literally. If you didn't know ,This park was where the turnpike dumped all their construction debris when they did construction on the turnpike. Put some dirt over it and plant some grass, now we have a dog park. Awesome! Who knows the Envionmental impact since it was a money grab. Im sure our EPA is on top of it... I have been a member for almost two years. i have read the reviews by the folks who dont like it because the park charges and because you have to attend an orientation (no longer, now you must just watch a few videos on line.) , or because it is too crowded. let me tell you the upside of their argument. You will be at a park with owners that care about their dogs and care about yours as well. i like knowing that the dogs that play with my dog have all their shots and are fairly well socialized. i have been at the park almost every day for about two years, and i have never seen an unattentive owner or uncaring owner. We dont get as crowded as some other parks, but i like that. Yes you have to pay a fee, AND show the township proof of rabies and other required vaccinations, as well as a dog licence, but that just means that dog owners at this park are more motivated and more involved in their dogs play BECAUSE of all the "hoops" the township requires of owners. i have been to parks where an owner will bring an obviously aggressive dog that will go after other dogs and then not do anything about it because their dog is "just playing", and the owner is not accountable. That doesnt happen here. if a playtime ever gets too vigorous, the owners step in and have the dogs sit out for a couple minutes, and then play again. I have never been to a dog park where the dogs and owners are as friendly. if you are looking for others dogs for your dog to play with, then 8:30-10:30 in the morning and between 5:30 and closing time are your best bets. if you want more alone time to play with your dog, then go late mornings or almost anytime in the afternoon. read more

It is an absolute shame that this place has a keypad to get in and it's only for members. Parks, and every other place for for Bluebell, are open to the public without a membership. Additionally, the space is separated for small dogs and large dogs but is not a big enough space for large dogs to truly get some running in. I am ashamed to call this place my home because of the inaccessibility. As another aside, it isn't like you can just sign up on the Whitpains Rec website, you have to sign up, pay some dues, which I wouldn't mind paying, but then you have to take time to attend an orientation. As of busy, full-time working family, the times that they offer the orientation are not practical. I think that Whitpains Township should be ashamed of themselves for charging per day for permit to use the fields when kids, adults, and families would love to play soccer or baseball together along with charging for the dog park. read more
