Whole Foods in a quaint PA building, quaint for this New Yorker. They have a sizable prepared food area. I asked a staff of they have a rooftop and was told a nearby Whole Foods has one, and is bigger. I was disappointed by the remaining organic strawberries which looked past their expiration date. The $13 entree with two sides however, hit the spot. I had a prime rib which was good if a little chewy, crisp string beans with sautéed onions and mashed potatoes. The portions are enough for two meals. My vacation companions had the grilled salmon entree which they report were top notch. They said their sautéed brussel sprouts and vegetable fried rice were flavorful with high quality products. There are also $11 entree with side options I.e. chicken and vegetable options that also looked good. Their tiramisu cake at $16 easily serves 6 and is as good as some of the best bakeries. I hadn't been here for quite a number of years and I was a weekly regular 25 years ago when it was Fresh Fields. I have been here a few times in the past few years and most recently yesterday when I wanted to pick up a few things. This is a smaller store compared to the ones they have in Wynnewood and Newtown Square. The shelves are well stocked but I am disappointed in the change in customer service. I was looking for something in the bakery department and two associates were chatting, one with a collection of juices. When I interrupted their chat they moved away as if I did not have a question. When I then asked them where the gluten free section is, they pointed to "over there" which was not particularly helpful. The checkout person was also rude and flippant. Maybe that is the reason I stopped coming here on a regular basis. read more

PRODUCTS: I have to say the Whole Paycheck moniker doesn't really float for what we buy. Some examples... WFM Organic eggs are $0.50 less than TJ's. Organic romaine hearts 6-pack is WAY cheaper than mainstream grocery stores. The Italian flour we buy (far lower gluten) is cheaper than Giant. Some WFM prices beat "wholesale" organics at BJ's. So we actually SAVE money going to WFM for various things. They have some amazing products, and yes, many are pricey. Some are worth more $$, some not. The 85% lean ground beef ($4-$5/lb) is hormone-free (not technically organic) and is some of the best burger we have ever bought at a grocery store or butcher (including Worrell's). The Rewards card also does a LOT to offer sales, coupons, and points (which amount to $$ off) to make things cost a lot less. So, "Whole Paycheck"? Not really. * * * TIP * * * We bought personalized re-usable shopping bags, and they credit us $0.05 per bag, per trip. This encourages shoppers to use their own bags, and adds up over time. The bags will eventually pay for themselves, & it is much nicer to use a stronger, attractive bag, without waste. CLIENTELE: This is the "cool people" grocery store. Constant looking you up and down, constant stepping in your way, refusing to move from blocking items on the shelf, for no reason other than to be controlling. Nonstop teaching their children to stand in the middle of aisles, and making a show of giving them a bakery treat, to eat then and there in the store (yuk! wash your hands!). Constant flashy cars cutting you off in the parking lot. Constant dirty looks, just because... Who raised these people? Everyone who approaches you is not some kind of threat or competitor in the "game" you call life. That's just a slice of the regular attitude from other shoppers. I wish the clientele didn't affect our shopping experience, and at any other store along rte 30, I don't even notice the clientele, but shoppers here are very loudly demanding to be paid attention to, so you really can't avoid it. Unfortunately, that impacts a shopping experience, so it does bear mentioning, as a warning to those who aren't particularly fond of the competitive, greedy, snobby, entitled, overly-prideful type. It is one thing if you occasionally buy a takeout lunch here; it is another thing if you need to do a load of weekly shopping to sustain your household. I can't spend a lot of time in a store where customers give me the creeps. (The clientele are not part of my rating, otherwise it'd be -10.) STAFF: As for the store's part in things... Staff highlights: Matt is very nice and knowledgeable. He went out of his way to help me and tell me about the new Non-GMO labels that WF will be requiring in the near future. Rachel has been really helpful, as well as Paul, the manager. We were pleased with our first experience with online ordering, to buy a larger quantity. Chad in the Meat Dept went through what was available with me, and then gave me the direct webpage for ordering ahead to have our larger order available at our pick up time of choice. I later wanted to change the pick up to a day earlier, and they graciously accommodated me. Recently, we found an item on sale that we love, and bought them out. We then asked if they would do a raincheck for more? YES! Ben at Cust Svc was quick to process the raincheck and let us know they'd call when our order came in. YAY! Most of the staff is nice, and most really go out of their way to help you. Usually it's all genuine, but sometimes this kind of "nice" feels like the king's jester who doesn't want his head cut off, more than someone allowed dignity in doing his/her job well. This, I attribute 100% to the narcissistic attitude of the customers here. It is sad that this needs to be the way a grocery store behaves in order to run their business on the Main Line. What a tragic occupational hazard! But the niceness suddenly ended when we met Cindy at checkout. Cindy was oddly condescending from her side of the rolling belt. She greeted us with "Wow, wow, wow..." in a patronizing way, like we get a gold star for going potty. Then came "My, my, my...." (trailing off). Suddenly our grocery order became a show. We then went to use a gift card to pay and Cindy began acting like a gift card is food stamps. She even hesitated, and asked the man helping her, "Do they even come in $60 amounts?" He was a bit embarrassed (for himself & for her) that she was being so strange. He said, "It's a gift card; they can come in any amount a person chooses." (He gave us an apologetic look.) Cindy said "Oh, I thought it was one of those, uh..." Hmmm, does WIC work with Whole Paycheck? I have no idea. Neither does Cindy. I guess it was just a bit hard to swallow making a $300 grocery trip with miserable customers all around us, and being treated with condescension in the checkout line. LISTEN TO THIS... I frequent Whole Foods for the most part I love them but tonight i found out something so disturbing. Went to get some take out pizza and was told in a half hr everything left including ALL HOT BAR ITEMS WERE TRASH! There was a ton of pizza left and if you shop at whole foods you know how big there food bars are. WHY IS THIS NOT DONATED TO A LOCAL FOOD BANK????? Or some other help group??? Oh but of course i had to give 1 star because the cardboard box my pizza came in is made of 100% recycled material and also serves as a plate or storage for leftovers! You go WHOLE FOODS!!! We are trying to incorporate more organic food into our diet so Whole Foods is a must-visit spot for us during our grocery shopping day. This location is very well-stocked & clean. My only gripe is that portions of aisles are often inaccessible because of the restocking cart being right in the middle of the already too narrow aisles. Shopping would be much more enjoyable if the store didn't feel like an obstacle course at times. We love buying our meat for the week here because there are ALWAYS specials. Even better, Amazon Prime members get an additional 10% off most sale prices so sometimes we pay less than we would at Giant even though the quality is far superior. We also always grab some fruit and veggies, like avocados, during every visit. Whole Foods is undeniably expensive but if you come with some time to compare prices, you can find some good deals on almost all items, including pasta, sauces, cereal, milk, etc. Also, this location sells beer and we buy Modelo for less than Wegmans! I was there the other day and the experience was less than good. Many poorly stocked shelves and very slow cashiers, my cold groceries became warm waiting so long . Plus the dairy section was poorly set up,I had to stand on the bottom shelf to reach the egg whites which were in the very back of the top shelf . I watched as another customer had to do the same thing across the aisle to get a milk product. When I complained to the clerk working in the dairy section he was very dismissive and slightly disrespectful . This has been my go-to Whole Foods for a while now - sometime I will trek to Glen Mills or Plymouth Meeting. I know the layout of this WF better than others so I can get in, get what I want, and leave relatively quickly. Also if you go after 7:30 PM or before 8 AM it is much less crowded. Far as hot bar goes this got to be the worst Whole Foods i been to. Not that big of selection and store is crammed.

Whole Foods is quickly becoming my favorite grocery store in the area, along with Trader Joe's. They have all sorts of great food that is organic and natural and whatever other hippy terms there are. What matters to me is that the products they sell are made with good ingredients instead of cheap junk. For example, it can be difficult to find soda made with actual sugar, let alone any decent selection to choose from, but Whole Foods has a bunch of different kinds (Boylan's is my favorite). Probably my favorite features of the store are the bakery and the deli. The bakery is packed with all kinds of delicious baked sweet things, exotic (to me) breads, and even a case with refrigerated items like cannoli or chocolate mousse. They also have larger items like cakes. I always pick up a few giant chunks of their delicious cornbread because I love it and I've found it quite difficult to find good cornbread in a store. I also recommend the peanut butter bars in the fridge case (I believe the label says "Vegan Peanut Butter Bar"). If you like peanut butter, give it a try. It's fantastic. The deli has the usual lot of deli fare such as potato salad and what have you, but my reason for visiting there is usually to get some of their tasty lunchmeat for making sandwiches. The meats I've tried so far have all been good. I do wish they had some type of sharp cheddar for sale, but the regular cheddar is pretty good anyway. They also have a meat department, and although I don't typically buy anything from there myself, it all looks good and I've been told that they have good stuff in that department. I wish I could say more about it, but I'm far too lazy to cook that sort of stuff myself. I think they have seafood and fish and stuff, too. There is a good selection of prepared foods such as sandwiches, sushi, and a salad bar. I'm not exactly a sushi connoisseur, but I enjoy eating it and the sushi they have here tastes great to me. Aside from that stuff, there's a fairly large produce section and the usual selection of standard grocery items. I'm able to get some things here that are otherwise somewhat difficult to find, such as grape jelly that doesn't contain high fructose corn syrup, so I'd say they have a good selection. I only have a few minor complaints about the store. First of all, I bought one of the vanilla cakes with buttercream icing and was disappointed by it. The icing wasn't very sweet and didn't taste much like buttercream icing to me. It's probably better for me because I won't be buying and eating a giant cake every week, but I don't know of any decent cake bakeries in the area so I was a bit sad that my hopes were dashed by this particular cake. I also don't like the way the parking lot is set up. The entrance funnels all the traffic right in front of the door where there are people walking all over the place. I always feel uneasy driving in the parking lot. Yes, these are the types of dumb things that bother me. Overall, I really like this store and am glad there's one in the area. It's nice to have a place to supplement Trader Joe's in the area of quality food made with non-disgusting ingredients. read more

I just looked at my review in 2010, and got a chuckle. This store has mostly improved or at least changed in the following areas since 2010 and I think it's been 5 years now since the expansion but hey I am catching up: 1. prepared foods section is much larger than it used to be. Just recently, maybe in May or June they expanded their Indian cuisine options, and that is a vast improvement since their prepared foods section tends to be bland. 2. the homemade pasta section is ridiculously expensive and the choices are incredibly limited. There is no fresh boxed pasta in the store except this counter where you have to wait for a cheese employee to come over and pack it in this nice cardboard square container. Maybe that's why it's so stupidly expensive? It's Severino brand for what that's worth. 3. the pub is decent, a good selection of craft beers but it is too small. Most Whole Foods in PA have bigger pubs. 4. the fish seems to improve over time, both in quality and selection. I think they are now ahead of Wegmans on most days. It wasn't always that way. 5. the produce continues to confuse, they are constantly moving things around but generally it's high quality and fresh. And overall, they still have stocking problems. Perhaps the stocking issue can be summed up in one incident. I asked a bakery employee one day if there were any fresh baked chocolate chip cookies since I couldn't find them. This was around noon. She said no they probably ran out. She also said they usually run out pretty fast haha. UM. WOW. SO MAYBE BAKE MORE EVERY DAY?? HELLO?? read more

Depending on what you're looking for in a grocer, you'll have very diffent opinions on whether or not Whole Foods is worth the extra $$. No doubt, they're prices are higher - but here's what you're paying for: A larger selection of organics than any other grocer in the area. Meat that is raised according to strict standards in terms of animal welfare, and that is hormone and antibiotic free. Foods that are free of artificial preservatives, trans fats, and chemicals. Deli meats and prepackaged meats that are free of nitrates. Produce that is second to none. Though, in the summer months, you're doing better for the environment and our economy to support local. Ingredients that are difficult if not impossible to find at "regular" grocery stores. A company that cares about the local community and supports local initiatives, who pays their workers a living wage, and who treats their employees well. Granted, these things aren't important to many people, and based on the offerings in "regular" stores, they're not concerned about eating cleanly. But if that's what you're into, then Whole Foods is for you. read more

No matter where in America you are, your local Whole Foods' parking lot is filled with angry, aggressive "cool mom" wanna-bes in cars that are just too darn big to properly navigate normal, every day errands. Add Main Liners to that equation and you're just begging for a headache. Oy vey! It takes me about an hour to get here, but I do one big trip every visit home to stock the fridge with 365 goodness and vegan delights. Seriously, the store brand unsweetened almondmilk is the best you can find anywhere, which is why I make the trek instead of relying on my local Wegman's. I was able to find everything I needed for a veggie Thanksgiving feast, and loved that they had local mushrooms. True, most everything else this time of year is shipped in from California, but at least they're making an effort. I'm grateful to have a Whole Foods near enough that it's not impossible to get to, but I'd give my left foot for a location closer and larger. In fact, just expand everywhere so the amount of terrible people and parkers per store is minimized to a normal level. read more

Now, however you have Wegman's, TJ's, Food Source and even Genuardi's and ACME moving into the organic, natural, fresh and local food game and the bar is set higher. Wegman's is going to be the Whole Foods killer if this store doesn't upgrade. Here are my suggestions: Move to one of the many empty box stores that now line Rte. 202 and build a Whole Foods that resembles the one in Princeton,NJ. Refuse entry to all leather faced, tennis skirt wearing, Range Rover driving harpies.( OK suggestion 2 is just wishful thinking) But the first part would really help as the store and parking lot are both undersized. The newer WF stores really are great featuring extensive prepared foods, beer and wine (in some states) and cafe areas with Wi-Fi. So step up your game Wayne Whole Foods we're waiting. read more

I always stop in here when I want to grab a quick bite. The hot foods bar is constantly being changed to ensure that the food is fresh, and the salad bar is immaculate. Plus, they always have at least 7-9 different soups. Try the Manhattan clam chowder and the loaded baked potato with a side of the cornbread. I am also a big fan of the marinated balsamic mushrooms and vegan quinoa salad, which is light, nutty, refreshing, and flavorful. Yes, it's slightly pricey but the quality is great and the staff are very helpful. They also have the multi-grain bagels from Just Bagels in NYC, which I have a slight addiction to, especially when paired with a thin layer of Irish butter and jelly. It's pretty crowded on the weekend but the staff are always available to answer questions or help out and the lines move very quickly. read more

Overall, I like Whole Foods. I shop here because I prefer to buy foods that aren't electric blue or are flavored with something that was created by science. That's just a personal choice that I've made for me and my family. And sure, a lot of grocery stores are now getting on board with their own organic sections, but two aisles of foods that are mostly natural, not so much organic, doesn't cut it. There's no way to slice it, Whole Foods and buying natural and organic is going to be more expensive. So people complaining about how expensive it is kind of slays me. It's not Giant or Acme, people. You don't go there because it's convenient to pick up milk (maybe you do, who knows). Pros: They have a great selection of natural and organic foods and are conscious to not carry anything artificial. Their own 365 brand in most case is just as good as a brand. There are a few items that I don't like in their brand, but overall, if you're a smart shopper, you can still save money in the store if you're trying to save without making sacrifices. The staff, most of the time is very helpful and knowledgeable. They have a great cheese selection. Cons: Oh my effing GOD. The people that shop there. They are so stuck up and feel as if they're more entitled than you. Giving you dirty looks when you move their cart out of the middle of the aisle. Which they think they have the right to do. The store is on the older side and more cramped. Which kind of makes my above statement more frustrating at times. I've found that it's not bad if you go either an hour before closing or as soon as it opens. Their produce selection isn't as great as everyone says. Yes, they have a lot of produce, but their organic selection is severely lacking. There are certain things I will not buy conventional. For instance, my son loves grapes, but conventional ones have a high pesticide load, so I won't buy them unless they're organic. They only carry them maybe two weeks out of the year, which is annoying to me. I'd pay the extra money for organic grapes. I get that they try to keep things seasonal, and that's fine, but grapes are kind of a toddler staple. And I've found them at other natural stores. Because the store is older, I've found that there's not as much of a selection on other things too. I tend to browse there for more natural beauty products, and newer stores have more room and therefore a better selection. The parking lot is a hot mess. Overall, I shop here, mainly because it's the one of the few places I can go to stay within my grocery budget and get what I need, without having to make multiple trips to several stores. There's a new Whole Foods being built in Plymouth Meeting and while it'll be a little further from us, I'm anxious to see how it'll measure up. If the aisles are bigger and there's more to choose from, it may be worth the extra few miles. read more

The great hot and cold food bars they USED TO have are degenerated into badly prepared, ill conceived dishes that look and taste like they have been left unattended for too long. Hey WFM, do you even taste your food before you put it out there? I will go there if I MUST, because it may occasionally be convenient. But I will never touch the food bars again - something I would always do each time I visited. The checkout people are always disgruntled too. They used to be quite cheery. Stopped in to pick up a birthday cake from the bakery and let me tell you ....... AMAYYYY -ZING. Good job Whole Foods!! It was a Chantilly Berries Cake, beautifully decorated and whole berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries) inside the cake. Really delicious, we brought it to a birthday party this evening and it was a huge hit. I also ordered a SAnta Fe sandwich on ciabatta ... very good. I wished they had the sun dried tomato spread, but this WF sandwich station doesn't have it ... or at least they didn't have it today and it wasn't on the order slip (unlike most WF that I have been to) Friendly and available staff throughout the store. I love this location! I went Sunday morning at 8 ish so there were no crowds, or obnoxious main line people freaking out for no reason, no parking lot drama, no problems! There were a ton of fresh samples all over the store and a few unique things like bulk spices that I haven't seen at the whole foods in the city (maybe I'm missing them?). The store is spacious and laid out well. I had no problems finding what I needed and checking out quickly. Prices are much higher at this location than any other Whole Foods. It closes early, no one ever picks up the phone when I need to call and their selection is scarce. It's a very small store. Not quite as small as the one in Wynnewood, but small enough to never carry what I'm looking for. Once, a nice boy helped me look for a specific taco sauce. We noticed they carried the brand I was interested in so he said they could special order it for me. We went to the counter, placed the order and I never heard from them again. It wouldn't have been as bad, but they totally got my hopes up! Lastly, the hot bar food here is straight awful. If you've read my other reviews you know I always give something three to five tries before I make any judgement. The hot bar was no exception. I've tried it multiple times since I work in the area. It always looks appetizing and I always regret it immediately. Not to mention it's wildly expensive for bland, greasy "health food." read more

Most of the employees are rather friendly and I appreciate that the hot/cold bars don't have flies circling the food unlike other locations I've been to. They have a great selection of Honest brand beverages (my fave) and the fruit is always so fresh and tasty! Bakery items always look amazing and taste pretty good as well! I don't do grocery shopping here, so can't comment on that. However if you've never shopped at WFM, the prices are definitely higher and in most cases worth it! read more
