BEWARE of Wholesale Escapes!!! In January 2011 I attended a sales pitch by WSE. It was presented as a one stop shop for all travel needs. I do not like to spend hours shopping around, so I thought it would be great. I purchased a membership for $4049 that included 6 anytime (Primetime) condo rental weeks, 2 Free Family and Friends passes, and unlimited 50% off Restaurant.com access. After I was a member for approximately a month, I discover the following to be true: -You can find flights significantly cheaper elsewhere. In my case I found deals $213 cheaper per adult for an overseas flight. -Customer Service will NOT respond to emails. I emailed customer service, the customer service manager, and the president. -Deals offered by WSE are NO better that the FREE sites like Priceline, Expedia, etc. -They never deliver the customer portfolio promised in the presentation. -Ticketing option does not offer tickets to popular shows like the "Moulin Rouge" in Paris. I attempted to get a refund, but after a few phone calls, WSE stopped returning my calls and made no effort to resolve any of my complaints. If anyone has had similar problems with WSE, please do like I am, and take the following action: 1) File complaints with the Better Business Bureau (follow up) and the Federal Trade Commission. 2) File negative reviews on as many sites as you can find like ripoffreport.com, local.yahoo.com, yelp.com, superpages.com, pissedconsumer.com, yellowpages.com, yellowbook.com, etc. 3) PROTEST peacefully in front of the business. Would you have purchased if you saw someone with a sign protesting in front of WSE? I would NOT have. This will impact their bottom line. Remember though, be honest about what happened, do not slander. 4) Spread the word! Don't forget to warn you family, friends, co-workers, post it on your facebook etc. Save others from suffering the same fate. 5) Seek legal means of help. We have never used our membership since signing on in 2009, the way it was intended and it sounds like if we had we would be very disappointed. However, we did stay a week in Cayman Islands for $60, a week in Calgary for free, a week in Aruba for free, a week in New Orleans for $5, a week in New York City at the Hilton for free all because we signed on with Wholesale Travel. So i guess making a decision to spend thousands of dollars on the spot wasn't such a bad idea ;) That is not to say that everyone would experience this, but sometimes the risk pays off. Went to their hour long presentation and wondered if they are legitimate. The savings they claim for booking vacation trips - how do you know if you are saving what they claim you are unless you research the travel yourself. Mike at the visitor center outside of Charleston recommended we attend and receive vouchers for admission to local sights. Who makes a decision to spend thousands of dollars on the spot with no research done on the company? Too bad that they position their memberships at an additional $3000 unless you buy today and on the spot. Makes them seem less credible. read more

I too regret having been roped into one of their high pressure sales talks. After trying to leave several times, salesmen showed us a book of resorts that we would be able to book at. I told them I have no interest in staying at a time share and that I would only like to stay at traditional resorts. They lied and said this would not be a problem. They said we could find hotels anywhere with no black out dates at deeply discounted rates. We found out their quotes for timeshares and for hotels were no better than hotels.com and travelocity. Yes, the free tickets do work at the other locations, so if you want to sit through the presentation then it's worth it, but then run. Do not buy anything. The reason they want you to sign up right then and there, is so you can't go home and google the company. The "A+" BBB rating they show, is a lie. Look them up and you'll find a TON of scam complaints and their actual "D-" rating. I cannot think of any description short of crooks to describe this operation. Their front man made a huge deal out of any veterans in the audience and then proceded to lie through his teeth about their great BBB position (actually a D-) and everyhting else this company does (or does not do). They "finance" the transaction by applying for a credit card on your behalf and then consider yourself lucky if you actually talk to anyone there ever again. My impression is that they are separate from the back-end "discount vacation" operation. They sell you a login to a web page that they have zero control over. The back-end is no treat either. Forget the pictures of helpful people guiding you through your dream vacations. They never had anything remotely close to where we wanted to travel and what they had were pretty slim pickings. I wish I had checked the BBB score and online reviews before we lost our money. Their contract is air tight (no remorse period). If you bought in, the only thing I can do is sympathize and tell you to make sure and submit your cancellation in writing before your six month anniversary. BEWARE! I read this warning from others too late. But I fear there are hundreds of unsuspecting tourists in Charleston who will fall into the same trap. The salesmen and women in this outfit are predators. They are looking for people who would like to be able to travel more than they really can afford to do. And most people who are exploring Charleston fit that category. I agree with all the other victims who have reported that the promises are very misleading. The hotels that they include in their database are not the dream destinations that they promote in their visual presentation. The resorts they include are not the 5-Star Luxury locations that they suggest you can visit with unbelievably low weekly fees. It is unbelievable because it is not REAL. I have not researched any locations outside of the US, but all the US "resorts" that I have researched have limited amenities, and some are just bare-bones lodging facilities. No one needs a travel membership to find deals for these locations. The contact number for the concierge service provided on the Wholesale Escape website only proved to us that we had been scammed. I called once to inquire about how to use navigate the reservation process online. The female who answered the phone was very pleasant, but she said that there was no record of our account in her system. I called almost two months after we had been successfully beguiled. I know there is no recourse, because they design a very crafty membership license that asks the buyer to release all rights to question his judgment after the date of sale. We really should have had better discernment on that fateful day. But since we didn't, we want to warn all who have ears to hear and eyes to see! read more

It sounded Very good almost unreal the stuff you could get for small amount of out-of-the-pocket. But after the spill we were taken to another room where we met one on one with someone to explain further the cost and to get your permission to swipe your already credit card. Scam! I did not buy into their scheme but others have and have lost their money. Beware! Vacation Inspirations... Same company. My wife and I were pitched this great deal that we could sit and listen to a vacation presentation, in exchange for vouchers to use on a tour and eating out, and if we were interested at the end then we could raise our hand. If not then we could just walk out. However, it was not that easy. Great presentation... High entry price to join a vacation club. And at the end of the presentation we were 1 on 1 with a sales lady who would not take no for an answer. We literally had to walk away with her still talking. She said things like, "surely you like to vacation", "are you telling me you don't have any extra money? How will you eat tonight?", and "so you came to Charleston but don't have money to have fun here". We were appalled at the needy tactics they used to try to get us to book. She even offered to let us put $100 down on the fee and pay the rest each month. The total entry fee was $7000. Seriously? Who can afford a $400 condo week when you fork out $7000 for a membership! The only good thing was that we DID get two tickets (voucher) for the harbor tour and $100 to eat out with. It cost me about 2 hours of my time and a little frustration but saved us $140 on our vacation because we were going to do this tour anyway and we were going to eat. Lol. Summary: BEWARE. Do not buy into their scheme. Just pick out your vouchers and restaurant, I recommend Charleston Grill, Go sit through the meeting, and when it is over walk downstairs and get your envelope with your vouchers and check for $100 in it. Basically you will be paying thousands of dollars to get what you can get through Expedia only with lousier service. I tried multiple times to use their service and after 4 attempts the best they had of offer was a savings on one hotel of $2 a night. I called their office 12-15 times over the first two weeks and no one called me back. Check the BBB listing of D- and 49 complaints to a company over 1 year under its current name. Also, please call the Dept of Consumer Affairs who sided with me and suggested to them that they give my husband and I the "favorable" respond to our request of a refund of $7,229.00. for a service that we state was sold under false pretenses. Their response was to send a letter from their "legal representative" that they were not even considering a refund. DO NOT TALK TO THEM, they have a "helpful" guy on Market Street misrepresenting himself as someone who works for a "visitor's bureau" in front of brochures that don't belong to the company.After "assisting" you with some tourist information there is the lure into their presentation and promises of below market travel bargins. They make sure you have a credit card. Their presentation is filled with lies about their prices, even when you ask about specific hotels/flights. We paid $7,000.00 and after returning home I found that they are on everyones' list as a frauulent company that provides NOTHING for the money. You don't get access to their website for 7 days, their "policy" and then you discover their stuff is the same as free travel sites.But you have a "contract" with them so they feel pretty smug about how you are stuck because the state has thus far not been able to shut them down. I will never use their service because I don't trust them to have access to another dollar. The ones who try to use it find they are charged higher rates than free travel sites or worse, they just lose more money. I have phoned 20 times plus and have never gotten a response. The police department told me they seek out tourists who are reluctant to sue because of the embarrassment and distance, I have every intention of taking this to court. We were visiting downtown Charleston one morning and were stopped by a young, good looking guy (Marc) on the sidewalk of Market St. and he gave us some coupons for some touristy locations around the city. He then started asking us what we had planned to do in Charleston during our visit. He whipped out a list of attractions and then the speech started. "If you come and see our no pressure presentation, I will include x, y, and z." We were reluctant, but hey, we like free stuff and he was even offering to give us cash for the stuff we had already booked and paid for as well as an extra dining voucher totaling $50. So we agreed to spend (aka waste) 60 minutes of our time. We came back after lunch at our appointment time and, even though had been promised we wouldn't be alone...."it's a group thing!".....we were the only couple. Awkward. We get checked in, and meet our "representative." Her name was Janie. I felt like we were being interrogated from the moment we sat down with her. Finally we go see the slideshow. So Mike was very good at "selling" the program and had a very good presentation. Afterwards, they offer a time for questions....except it wasn't much of a Q&A session. As soon as we sat back down with Janie she says "So which package are you going to buy?" Obviously, we weren't going to spend $3500-$9000 on a whole sale vacation package...even more so now that it seemed like a total fraud. When telling her we didn't think that it was for us, she pushed and poked and prodded and asked "well, why not? is it JUST the money???" AHHH....this woman! We also were hesitant because we like to research these things before committing. Janie said "well, we can do that in 5 minutes, let me get the laptop, we have an A+ BBB rating." These people are the pushiest and most aggressive "representatives!!!" They preach that it is a no pressure tactic and they will not push you to do anything. My husband and I were introduced to this company at a booth at the Grits Festival in St. George, SC on April 16, 2010. We were promised a free five night cruise on Carnival Cruise Line if we attended their sales meeting. We were asked to give a $20 refundable deposite to demonstrate our good faith to appear at the meeting. We attended their sales meeting today at their office in Charleston, SC. The people we met were very nice, and the presentation was a rather long sales pitch for their travel club. I must admit, it sounded pretty good. The package prices ranged from $2000- $8000, and were "good for today only". Luckily, we didn't have $2000, and walked away from the meeting with our $20 deposit, and the voucher for the cruise. I kept thinking about all the things they promised,,,,, week-long vacations at exclusive resorts at unbelievable prices, discounted airfares, etc... The sales person also told us that they had a concierge available to members 24/7 to aid them with travel reservations and issues. We came home, and started doing some research,,,,,,, good thing. BUYER BEWARE!!! Do your homework! Don't hand your hard earned money over until you have fully researched this company. Apparently, they have gone through many name/location/phone number changes, and there have been many complaints against them. We went to their website: www.WholesaleTravelConnection.com and suggest anyone interested in doing business with this company do the same. At the site they list their phone number,,,, which we called. We got a message (but I thought they were staffed 24/7???) stating that the office hours were from 9-5 Mon-Fri. The message listed an emergency number if you had "reservation issues". We called this number to see what would happen. First of all, when you call either number, they will answer "Member Services Reservation Line",,,, not by the company name (because the name changes). A woman answered the phone, and we told her we were having problems with getting our cruise reservations as promised ,,,,, she said she had gotten a lot of complaints about it, but that she would "see to it personally that it would be taken care of". We asked her point blank if she was from Wholesale Travel Connection, and she stammered a bit, and then said she was from Member Services Reservation Line, but that a lot of travel companies "work for her". We asked if she could look up our information so she could help us, and she launched into a story about how she has three kids and was just getting home,,,, but she was sure they had faxed her our information (they fax her all 45,000 new member profiles? busy lady!) This is the company's emergency help line if you are stranded with travel problems at 3am in a foreign country???? Yikes. I am so glad we didn't have the money to follow through with this. If you're thinking it's too good to be true, it is. Here's the deal: First they sucker you in on the sidewalk and at first glance it seems like they're just an information center. The people talking to you are super nice and ask you general questions about where you're from and what you want to do while you're in town. Then they tell you that if you sit through a no obligation hour lecture, that you can get some free passes to pretty much whatever touristy thing you want to do, as well as a gift certificate to the restaurant of your choice. It was early in the day when we got suckered in so we thought "why not"? We went into the class and it was all smoke and mirrors. At first they told us that for $179 a year, we could get wholesale prices on travel to pretty much anywhere we wanted. This seemed like a reasonable deal and would be worth the money, but finally after about an hour and a half of glamorous story time on their part, they got to the nitty gritty. On top of the $179 a year there was a one time "admin fee" of $299, and then you also had to "buy in" to one of three "packages" that last a lifetime. The cheapest "package" was $2000 (yes two THOUSAND), the middle package was 5K and the "gold package" was 7K. After we told them we weren't interested in paying any of that, they tried to offer us a financing package with a 15% interest rate over three years that would "only be $57 a month." Once we told them we still were not interested they became complete assholes to us. The guy said "you mean to tell me that your relationship isn't worth $57 a month?" and that "if we couldn't even afford $57 a month, then a free meal wasn't going to do anything for us." We got out of there asap, but not before we got all our free stuff, which totaled a $25 gift certificate to a snazzy restaurant, two free tickets to a carriage ride, two tickets to a ghost tour, and two passes to the Patriots Point Naval Museum. They were totally pissed at us though, and we were so uncomfortable that we were in fight or flight mode. I googled it afterward and it looks like there's a lot of people out there who did buy into it, and couldn't even use the program. One person in particular was trying to book a cruise and it took them three months of being run around before the cruise got booked, and in the end it was the same price as they could have gotten it online without buying the $7000 package. Bottom line: If you're looking to save some money and see some cool touristy things it could be worth your time to get the free stuff, but beware that the people inside, past the doors, are skeezy, sleezy, scandalous, skavenger scammers who will push and pressure you into giving them your money and when you don't, they turn into extremely rude assholes. read more

I got suckered into this while on vacation in Charleston, SC. I went to the hour presentation and thought it sounded like a good deal. Was definitely skeptical, but since I had just retired and wanted to travel a lot, I thought it might be something I was interested in. Not only for me, but for my son./daughter-in-law and my elderly Mom. I was offered a free 3 night 3 day trip to several spots and a couple of freebies while in Charleston. They dropped the advertised price by several thousand dollars and let me pay in installments. I got home and did research (of course my son was so pissed that I didn't back off and do research while there) and realized that this program is mostly a joke and I could get just as good deals through Expedia or Book-It.com, unless you can travel within 30 days of signing up for a trip. I am so humiliated and can hardly make my payment for bills for November since the second installation is due. Please don't get suckered into this no matter what they say. By the way, the 2 night/3 day freebie is also a joke. You are limited to where, when and have so many fees and taxes to pay; nothing is free in the end. read more

We went to the Visitor Information Bureau on our way in to Charleston. He said "well you're paying $100.+ for these three sites to see so why don't you talk to Wholesale Travel Connection for just an hour and they will give you free coupons to these places." He also said "it is just a meet and greet, they aren't going to pull your teeth." I am always skeptical of these tactics. When we got there the saleswoman asked where we were staying and we told her. She asked if we could cancel that and she would get us a $300. room for approx. $115. She did do that and it is a lovely place to stay. That's a plus for our wasted time. Plus, we got the passes to the sites we wanted to see. However, the saleswoman went through the program which we thought was way too expensive but attractive for travel. She was a good salesperson. But,she then brought in her manager who really applied pressure for us to sign up. Then as we said no we don't want to sign up he asked us to come back in just to finish five questions on how the salespeople performed. There was no survey - just the owner of the company "tweaked" the travel plan and reduced the price significantly to get us to sign. LOTS of pressure and two hours out of our day of touring this nice city. He said he would not offer this the next day as it would affect his integrity. Hmmm...I am really glad we didn't sign up as who knows if they will come through in great travel savings or not. Who knows if they will be in business down the road. After thinking this over the Visitor Information Bureau should not be able to coerce people in to an appointment with these people who do practice high pressure sales tactics and they are all over the tourist area of Charleston. I did not expect this much pressure. The total cost was $4900 plus annual fee of $290 and a first year sign up fee. The reduced travel plan was $2300. read more

Fortunately, I didn't have a face-to-face encounter. They called me in December to tell me I'd won a free prize. Nothing is free. They just called me again and left a voice mail message. The young lady sounded very irate and mean and said, "We called you in December and you never claimed your prize. It's still here, and I NEED you to call me TODAY. We're right down here at 85 South Market, so either come by here or call us today. I NEED for you to come claim this prize!" It was like I'd failed to meet some promise. Very strange. I didn't want to give them one star, but had no choice. I've been living in hell since my visit to Charleston SC. I really believed I had a 3 day cancellation option as inmany states to get out of this contract "membership" that was hard sold to me. The owner, who wasn't there, claims it never happened. I am a disabled widow who is trying to move a get a mortgage but instead due to these "crooks" I have been working on fighting for my money. They do use terrible business practices and the language in their "membership" is not clear to the layman. I told the sales agent within the first 5 mins that I cannot sign anything due to my disabilities and lack of judgement due to my narcotics. I personally believe because I was the only adult present, she told me what I wanted to hear. I was exhausted wanted to get out of there and believed I had the law behind me. Citi Bank is now working on retrieving my money but for the last 2 months I've been sick about this. They charged me 5400 that I do not have. I feel foolish but at the same time DID disclose all my concerns and got only words they thought I wanted to hear. They are a ruthless, heartless company who believes whatever their agent tells them. I asking anyown out there if they had a similar problem with them to contact me to help me prove that this company is nothing but a scam. WTC is a scam! They are not anything they represent themselves to be. They cannot get you deals on airfare, cruises or hotels. The only thing they are interested in selling you are one-week timeshares. We were gullible enough to believe their pitch that they could get us great deals on all kinds of travel. After we joined and wanted their help booking a cruise, for weeks every time we called they said they were "working on it." After about three weeks they wouldn't even return our calls. We asked for our money back because they refused to take our calls or provide any service at all. They have flatly refused to refund our money. Don't give them one penny of your hard-earned money!! Yes I sat through the presentation and signed up for far less than those writing the reviews. Unfortunately, I had a better experience booking a trip to Europe using their site. My only complain would be that they are booking through other sites such as expeida and hotels.com. They don't seem to be able to beat CheapO Flights or other site for airplane tickets, but the hotel prices were exceptional. The hotels we stayed at were as presented. I just found that the cheapest hotel was usually a non refundable unless you went a few dollars. I contacted the company to get travel insurance just in case something did happen as I booked the vacation in February for July. Can't say it wasn't time consuming contacting someone in Florida, but everything did work out. read more

I am 75 and been in business for many years. Purchasing a membership in Wholesale Escapes for over $8000.00 is one of the worst decisions I have ever made. We joined totally because they told us we would realize a major savings on a cruise that we were planning to the Baltic, thoussands of dollars would be saved if we bought the membership. In reality, we found the savings to be approximately $600.00. In our opinion, they misled us and told us tainted truths. We did not misunderstand, we joined totally becasue of what they told us we would save. We joined November 6, 2012 and less than 10 days later we requested that our membership be terminated and our funds refunded. They did not respond to our calls or our emails. Very poor experience with very unprofessional company. The entire WE-RSI presentation revolved around being guaranteed the lowest available price on hotels at the time of booking. It only took about 15 minutes of investigation to discover that we can do at least as well as, and often better, than RSI's prices with either our AAA card, AARP card, or just local deals. We called within less than 24 hours to express our disappointment and request a refund. Sam's statement was that the contract we signed contained no right of rescission. So what?! There is nothing that would prevent WE-RSI from issuing a refund. We have never dealt with an honorable, professional company that has refused a reasonable refund. Run, Run, Run!!! Please do not be suckered into this con game! We went into a "visitor center" to get some maps, met a guy named Billy working for Wholesale Travel NOT the city of Charleston. He was very arrogant and pushy he wouldn't take no for an answer and finally talked us into listening to a presentation. Hey we get free stuff 60min for $90 worth of tickets who wouldn't be tempted? Well we get to the office and he leaves us to talk to a very ditzy girl named Angie. She did not have her act together at all, kept complaining about her boss etc. We proceed to watch a power point presentation on the "Company" and all the things it can offer and the money you can save. After the presentation we get whisked away and setup at separate tables in a large room. This is where you are then pressured into buying on the spot a $7,000- package that gets reduced to $5,000 then when you show no interest in giving some random street person you've known less then a hour thousands of your money they start cutting out perks to "get the price down" to a monthly payment of $40.00. We asked them to have some time to speak to each other (my husband was with me) so I could use my phone to look up the business online...YIKES at the reviews! When they returned we thanked them for there time spent on us, and nicely told them that was too big of a decision to make at the moment and we would pass. Angie got upset and became rude and extremely pushy and questioned WHY we couldn't make the deal I told them we weren't comfortable and we already had a lot going on she pressed for more info and put me on the spot so I told her with trying to conceive and the difficulties we were having etc. She THEN has the nerve to tell me that I need to buy the package so I can relax and then we would conceive. I asked her what exactly she was implying that all the issues we were having was because I'm not relaxed? She said straight up yes your not relaxed enough to get pregnant! WoW at that moment I thought I was going to explode I kindly packed up my items told my husband let's go, this "business" deal just went overboard into being way to personal. Angie then proceeds to ask "if she has pissed me off?" Ummm yeah you did and during the scam of things caught them in soooo many back peddling lies, conflicting info and different stories. The least they could do is get on the same page of lies! We did get our "free stuff" and had a lovely dinner and a visit to Magnolia Plantation. So if you have time to waste go get some of there free items just be prepared for all the pushy stabby behavior and please read the reviews not only on this site but others it is a SCAM in the end. We were on our way into Charleston and stopped at the tourist info center. That's where the scam started. The gal there gave us a discount on a hotel but also asked us to go hear the Wholesale Escapes humbug about discount vacations. I had to give her $20 to hold until we went there the next day and listen to them. I don't make stupid decisions, but thats exactly what I did by giving these people $3000 in a rushed decision. We won't use this product because when I did compared on a cruise, the same ship on the same departure date, I could have purchase it for $350 per person cheaper from the cruise company and the "discount vacation" company had no explanation for this. They have gotten good lawyers to write them an ironclad contract, so my credit card company sees it as a good purchase that I'll have to pay for.
