We were seated and left with the menus... for a long time. After about 15 minutes, someone came for orders. They do label vegetarian and gluten free items on part of the menu, but I had questions about the burger with no bun. Turns out there's gluten in the meat too, so I opted for the veggie risotto. When I asked the waitress what vegetables were in it, her answer was "peas... and some other stuff, I can't remember." Sounds great! My partner ordered a veggie wrap off the light bites menu. After another way too long period of time, we finally got our food. The risotto seemed like normal rice with sauce poured over - it was strange in texture and flavour. The veggies were peas, leeks and what I'm pretty sure was lettuce, though it could have been kale. My partner's wrap was super spicy and he didn't really enjoy that either. Since I'd ordered off the set menu, I had to wait for the dessert to roll up (white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake - base is not gluten free!) We requested the bill and dessert at the same time, bill arrived first. The cheesecake was unimpressive; I couldn't pick out any white chocolate, and the berries were more scattered on the plate than in/on the cake itself. The servers were friendly enough, but the whole experience was just so slow. I would not return.

The atmosphere in Largs at night is so much better than in Paisley. You don't feel like you're going to be stabbed. Fast forward three and a half years and here we are, sunny day and looking for a beer garden. I remember Lounge has a roof terrace. Drinks are reasonable. The pub is classy, chandeliers and chesterfield sofas, that kind of thing and a full cocktail menu. Worth a visit when you're down this way! After Nardini's, of course.

Now we're not talking heavy full pedal to metal kinda night as the participants and birthday man himself had been doing a 24 hour DJ charity gig around Glasgow the day before. So this was a Sunday night just chillin' and grabbing a few beers kinda night listening to all them dirty dirty blues. Da da da da dum! Oh and talking a whole lotta random nonsence. Da da da da dum! At the entrance it spilt into two, venue to left and the bar to the right, here I am stuck in middle..... er em. Sorry! Anyhoo we had a booth which looked like it could be closed to make a private party area. Steady! It was an all round really good night, the decor was non too shabby for a rock stylee venue with fancy wall paper and chandeliers, one girl actually blended into the wall with the top she was wearing. Nice! Drinks what you'd kinda expect to pay in the city centre but overall a fab night out and wouldn't mind swinging by again for some more of them dirty blues. Da da da da dum! Did I mention I saw The Beatles playing in the venue when we left? Very surreal!

Thankfully Slouch…read morehas all these things on the menu PLUS seating so that meant it was the perfect stop for Saturday afternoon drinks. My first cocktail was the Personality Crisis £5.95. Made from "Smirnoff Green Apple Vodka & Xante Pear Cognac, shaken with lemons and apple juice. Finished with a splash of lemonade and a drizzle of grenadine, served in a chilled wine glass." There's no denying this cocktail had an apple zing to it - quite sweet but not too over the top and pretty easy drinking. I'd ordered the twice cooked fries (£2.95) and they arrived pretty quickly and were piping hot. They weren't amazing fries, a little greasy but overall they were pretty decent and we demolished them without any trouble. I then opted to get into a second cocktail - it was a Saturday afternoon, after all. The Black Magic Woman (£6.50) is an espresso martini with "Illy Espresso, Smirnoff Red, Patron XO & brown sugar shaken over ice, strained into a martini glass and dusted with chocolate." Woah. This was GOOD. I mean, really good. A bit addictive, even. Thankfully I wouldn't be able to tolerate two espresso martinis so that wasn't really an option. I loved the chocolate dusting and it was one of the best espresso martinis I've ever had. I'd even go so far as to say I would go back to Slouch just for this cocktail, it was that good.

As a twenty something year old woman, I take great issue with being instructed to carry my drinks from the bar to the table on a tray, particularly when the table is only a foot away and all I bought was a glass of water. I feel particularly daft doing this while wearing plaid trousers and a brown cord flat cap being forced to adhere to the club's strict dress code. However, I do like Ralston Golf Club. I have attended a few functions here over the years and it is nicer than your average place to tee, or whatever it is golfers do. The club is framed by huge windows which is particularly pleasant when the light streams in on a sunny day. There is also a courtyard when the weather is nice enough to sit outside. Drinks at the bar are also very cheap which is always a point scorer in my book.

A grand building to look at from the outside, the exterior is matched by a classy interior which represents a fantastic venue for weddings, christenings, birthday parties and the like. Indeed, I swear I once even saw a woman wearing trousers in here. Honestly, I'm not making it up.
