Beautiful waterfalls. The history behind this monument is that it was done for a gentlemen that sold concrete in town. You can easily access it by getting off the right freeway and parking next to it. You can see it from the freeway. I highly recommended this as a stop if you're in town. Me and my son loved it.

Turned off....whomp, whomp [visited 3/27/22]. It's sad the city's namesake waterfall isn't running. It would be helpful if there was signage mentioning this anywhere in the park, and at least at the trailhead, but there isn't. We saw a couple there taking wedding photos....that had to be particularly disappointing. It was still somewhat interesting to see but yeah would have been much better with actual water. The trail leading there could have been scenic except I've never seen so much visible trash in a creek; I guess they lack any sort of volunteers to help keep the park clean.

I give 3 stars because it's not all that special. What's good is that it's right off the interstate so it makes a quick stop. You have to use Waze not google maps to find it. There's no signs. You park on the side of the street and then walk up. It was pretty neat and well maintained. On this Monday afternoon the only visitors were myself and a homeless guy...

My very first 1 star review. Why you ask? If you came here, you'd know why. First off, finding this place wasn't easy. Sure, there are signs. We figured we should just follow the signs and they would point us right to the falls. That would be logical. Only the signs just send you around in a circle of which we completed twice. I don't assume too many tourists come here to see these falls. My dad and I might have been the first 2 this year. I'm wondering if the sign placement is just to make people turn around and go home. We were close to doing that. The park leading up to the falls was nice. The falls smelled like a toilet. Not something I look for in my falls viewing. Sorry to the people of Wichita Falls for my very first 1 star review. Nothing personally against Wichita Falls. Maybe I caught the waterfalls on a bad day.

We really enjoyed our hike to The Falls! Such a lovely and peaceful walk to see them up close. Definitely a nice lil break from traveling, and a great place to take pictures. It was nice, quiet, and plenty of space to have a picnic or just enjoy the stroll through nature!

Easy to find. Street parking which was fine. Nice area to take some quick pictures. The river is dirty, but we were there just for the falls. Got to see a couple ducks swimming as well.

A lot of times the waterfall is turned off. The water is gross and it's not much of a place to visit. I guess for Wichita Falls it's ok

City of Vernon - Just some interesting information I came across while researching the town when I stayed here.

I had just driven nearly three hours from Dallas on my way to Amarillo I decided since I wasn't in a big rush to just take a break. I paid for another night in my room, the little La Fonda Motor Lodge, built in 1947. I had occasion to go to the Post Office and was absolutely enchanted by it. It was built in 1917 and looks a lot like the post office in my mother's home town in Indiana even though that one was built in 1936. I think they might have used similar designs for many years. Why not, if it works? I wanted to explore some of the little town cafes but between the ones that closed early the first day I was there and were closed completely the next day because it was 4th of July, I ended up just getting to try one, the Chicken Shack. It was very good and satisfied my craving for fried chicken not to mention having the best fried okra I've ever eaten. The next morning I ended up having to eat at Dickey's, which was fine except that it's a chain and not a little unique Mom and Pop Shop representing the town. I tried to go to the library but it was also closed both days I was there. It is a fairly modern looking building, built in the mid-70s, to replace the original Library which had been built in 1915 I think. They still call it the Carnegie Library because Carnegie was the one that donated the money for the original building. I was sad to hear the original building had been torn down because those old libraries are so cool. The Main Street is in pretty sad shape with many storefronts abandoned and others that didn't seem to contain thriving businesses. When I researched the town I found that there was a bad tornado that passed through in 1979 and destroyed most of the town. I wondered if some of the dilapidated and downright destroyed buildings that I saw might have been so damaged they could never be used again but were never razed. I got a kick out of driving down a side street and having to slow down and stop to wait for a rooster to cross the road. I couldn't help but think of the old riddle of why did the chicken cross the street and chuckled when I thought the answer was to get out of the way of MaryLou's car! There was a museum in town, the Red River Museum, that I would have enjoyed going to but that too was closed because of the holiday. I may have to stop in this town on the way back to Dallas, LOL. A lot of chain businesses have opened up near the freeway entrance and exits, chain restaurants, mostly fast food, local Walmart, that sort of thing. I got the feeling that this is a town that people used to drive through to go back and forth between Dallas and Amarillo. They probably stopped and bought gas, ate at the restaurants, patronize the motels and bought drinks and food at the stores. Then when the freeway was built it passed by the town and they lost all that business. There is a college in town and that probably provides a certain amount of jobs and Revenue. All in all, I enjoyed my brief stay here. The only downside was that there was a bad storm the second night and in researching whether tornadoes were a possibility I learned about the 1979 tornado and others that have happened over the years that weren't as devastating. I grew up in the Midwest and had to deal with the fear of tornadoes so I didn't like the idea of their possibility here and was ready to get out of town.

Medicine Park, is a small, charming town in Comanche County, known as America's cobblestone community due to its distinctive red granite cobblestone architecture. Founded on July 4, 1908, by John William Elmer Thomas, a lawyer and later U.S. senator, it was Oklahoma's first planned resort town, established to serve as a recreational area and water source. Population at the last census(2020) was 411. A popular getaway in the 1920s, attracting celebrities like Will Rogers, Al Capone, and Bonnie and Clyde(rumor is they were married there). it was known as the "Jewel of the Southwest." Bob Wills and The Texas Playboys performed regularly at the town's dance hall from 1929 to the late 1930s. The town declined post-1920s but has been revitalized since the 1990s.

Next time we are getting pizza because it looked and smelled so good! The service is great, very fast and polite. Food is very good. Lots of flavor but not too salty. Really enjoyed the salmon piccata special. The buttered noodles that come in the side of meals are good but I do prefer my pasta dishes all sauced up. The limoncello cake was excellent, not too sweet, actually went well with our wine. Now, the ambience is....not ideal. Someone else mentioned it is dated- it's not dingy or anything, it's just dark and has carpet. A lot to be desired as far as decor and curb appeal (typical of WF). Also... I am so over seeing televisions in restaurants. This is not a bar, can we just eat without screens please. Something about the acoustics here is very off because it seems SO loud. One loudish person fills the whole room with noise. And the phone ringing is shrill and super annoying. *Basically don't get a babysitter and come here on a date, like we did.* Everyone had tons of kids. The place was filled with loud families, like every table had 6 kids, it was an unusual amount of children. The wait staff brings their kids to work, like another review mentions. This didn't bother me, just makes it a better spot for bringing your family rather than having a relaxing night out for 2. And they close at 8 on weekends. Promptly. After a busy day I wanted a nice glass of wine and it was delicious. I decided shrimp Alvino that was described as jumbo shrimp sautéed in butter on a bed of linguini. The pasta was delicious but the shrimp tasted like frozen shrimp that been thrown on top and was dry. I told the waitress that it was not sautéed and if I could have more shrimp. She was very young and said that they would probably have to charge me for it. So I told her that I would have to speak to the manager but since my husband doesn't like for me to complain I asked her if she could take my shrimp and have it sautéed. When she brought it back to the table it looked like it had just been tossed on the grill with no butter. To please my husband I ate about 3 of the 6 small pieces and dealt with it. I cook 6 to 7 nights a week and was looking forward to a good meal especially since we were kinda celebrating an anniversary. It was very disappointing. I will never go back there.
