Millions of dollars into a great fitness facility but make so many rules it's not enjoyable to be in the facility.

They are refusing a hand delivered cancellation notice by my representative and are demanding it be mailed. This violated California law. Cancellation for Cause (Civ. Code 1812.89): Members can cancel if they move more than 25 miles from the facility or become disabled. California Civil Code 1812.85(b)(1) "...To cancel this agreement, mail, email, or deliver a signed and dated notice that states that you, the buyer, are canceling this agreement, or words of similar effect. The notice shall be sent via first-class mail, via email from an email address on file with the health studio, or DELIVERED IN PERSON TO (Name of health studio operator) at (Address and email address of health studio operator)." I have sustained a massive injury. I have constant pain and a spinal fluid leak and can no longer do any kind of physical activity. I have been trying to cancel since the end of March. The gym manager demanded I come in person, or mail a letter along with my medical documents as proof in order to receive a refund or to process my cancellation. I have tried informing them over the phone that what they are doing is illegal. I do not have the ability to come in person or go to the post office. They should have accepted the hand delivered letter my father tried to deliver. They don't care. They refuse to process my cancellation continuously. There are multiple accounts of them doing this to other customers online. This can't continue.

I've been coming here for about a year and the last couple months I've been in 4-5 days a week, so…read moreI'm a regular.I didn't have my tag with me today (it was on my other keys), and there was no one at the front desk when I walked in, so I figured I'd just start my warmup. Instead, a staff member came over to the treadmill I had just started using and made me walk across the entire gym floor to the front desk to give my name and get checked in. Honestly, that was pretty embarrassing and unnecessary. I completely understand the need to check people in, that's not my issue. It's how it was handled. Pulling someone off a machine and escorting them across the gym like that isn't professional. A much better approach would've been simply saying: "When you're finished here, can you come to the front desk so I can check you in?" I actually like this gym a lot, and it's the nicest one we have up here and the equipment is great, which is why this stood out so much. Just hoping to see a little more professionalism in situations like this.

Use to really enjoy this gym but its not what it use to be…read more Firstly, they almost always have a busted machine or something out of order. Stair stepper never works, neither of the ellipticals worked last time, only one out of 3 treadmills works properly. The other 2 don't incline. Maybe you should invest in new equipment? I come in with a day pass when we are in town and have noticed for the past year at least that the tile is coming up on the carpet in the weight room. Are you ever going to fix it??? Or are you going to wait til someone trips over it with weights and gets seriously injured? I Will never come back here and am shocked they still have members when they're obviously not getting their money worth with working equipment and a safe workout room.

Since the other gyms in the area are closed on Sunday I thought I would come check out Bodytek…read more Glad I did. This is probably the nicest, newest and cleanest gym in the area. And its only $10.00 for a day pass! If you need a gym for a few days to work out at and are coming from out of town I would definitely choose this place. Or if I lived here in Big Bear this is where I would join! Their rates are very good here. They have everything you need except for a legit free weight bench press. But they do have two squat racks you can easily convert into a bench since they do have a good amount of flat bench dumbbell benches. Good amount of cable machines. WHAT MAKES THIS GYM TOTALLY LEGIT AND SUPER COOL: The Aerobics Room. However I wouldn't call it that since it sounds too 1980's Richard Simmons like. But rather the room of Pain and Gain because thats what this room is all about if its used correctly. This room is a gold mine. I used to train with Jake Shields and Gil Melendez at Fairtex for 8 years and this is all these MMA fighters used to do: Battle Ropes, Tires, Kettle Bell exercises, Heavy Bag Muy Thai, Core Strengthening, Jump HIIT training, etc.. Its ALL about HIIT training. Although its good for you, you won't get shredded doing moderate steady cardio. You gotta do HIIT. If I lived here I would be in this room 6 days a week. Even where I work out at in OC at Golds Gym and 24 Hour Fitness we don't have a room like this. Forget the treadmills! Get in this room! 8 one-minute rounds of battle ropes hard core all out as hard as you can (30 seconds rest between rounds) is better than one hour steady state on the treadmill. And those monkey bars. My upper body was on fire after doing a few rounds of that!

Some reviews pan this gym. But I don't agree. At one time this was a state of the art facility. But now has fallen on hard times and seems like not much money to keep it up. But they have tons of equipment and machines. Multiples of machines for each exercise. I came across one machine that wasn't working well but they were others to take its place. Stairmaster, recumbent bikes, spin room, Treadmill, free weights, exercise room with floor space, free weights. Lots of 1970's, '80s and disco music. Bring your headphones if you don't like this. I'm not sure if it is air conditioned but they have huge fans in the air circulation is quite good. I found it comfortable to work out in. They have two floors, and elevator if needed. The reason I am giving this four stars is because of the price. It was only $30 for a weeklong visitors membership. Yes the place is run down, but if you just need a functional workout with all the equipment, out of the heat, while visiting this area or even living here, it's a great value and good find. It looks like the sauna was under construction when I was here, the showers and bathrooms are clean enough. There was only one gym staff on schedule when we were there and he was at the reception. He was very friendly and helpful. Don't order food here. The prep person behind the cafe counter keeps putting her thumb in her mouth. If you're just going to get your workout on, you could do it here. If you're looking for fancy bells and whistles and lots of shiny things, you probably won't be happy.
