I knew they were closing soon so I went up to a tall lady with curly hair and asked her to explain to me what was native and what wasn't . We wanted to buy local it was like I was bugging her. She was condescending, just bad... I can dish it out too lady. So the backhand comments start, then she walked away and started talking bad about us to another lady. I truely don't understand when retail shops hire people with zero customer service habits. Spent 60.00 on some crap and left. Yup, we are tourists, but people like that lady took money out of the mouths of local artist that probably deserve a lot better. Side note before we left i made it clear we came to spend money to a blonde (very nice lady and possibly a native lady) both did a fantastic job and tried to break down what all the local artist items were but by that time it was closing time. They asked us to come back today at 10am but unfortunately our flight leaves at that time. Or we would have come back and bought 1k plus of gifts for our family. It's your business, do as you please. But when out of towners come and want to support local I'd imagine it's your bread and butter? Best of luck . Michelle showed us an Instagram post from just 9 hours earlier and tipped us off about salmon fishing. She was incredibly knowledgeable and walked us through exactly what to do (I didn't totally follow but my husband did luckily). After already paying $$$$ for a guided fishing tour with no luck, we were honestly both excited and weren't sure if it's something we could do it on our own. But she was absolutely right!! We rented waders, fishing rods, and everything we needed right there, and followed her rod set up instruction and all the boys had an amazing time--ending up catching a large salmon (we could have caught more but we got to the river so late..) ! The rental process was easy and they had all the gear on hand. It was our first Alaskan trip and what could have been a pretty average trip turned into something unforgettable, thanks to Michelle and Dave. It ended up being an adrenaline-filled experience, and we'll definitely be coming back next year. Thank you Michelle and Dave!

The best little "Big Shoe" shop in Anchorage Desperately…read moreneeded a large size for a new friend. We found the folks at this shop extremely helpful. My friend had developed hammer toes from having too small shoes growing up; he fits into a size sixteen. My wife and I bought a quality pair for a bargain. He even let me use a military discount even though I am not currently in the military, just showed my Veterans card. If you shop there, please leave a positive review. Not one other shop in Alaska has large sizes and folks suffer. I wear a thirteen and I'm buying my next pair at Shoe Nook! Great name too.
