What a find! For years, we have passed this B&B on the way in from US 40 on the local road to Devil's Thumb, always wondering what it was like and vowing to try it some day. The xc skiing at Devil's Thumb has always been a favorite for us, as far back as the 70's when it was just a rustic ski trail system with a small nordic supply shop. In recent years it became a full fledged resort with lodging where we have often stayed. We have also stayed in Winter Park, about 15 minutes away and driven over to ski. But we have now found our new favorite option. This is such a lovely place, both the facility and the charming staff. It is a better price value for us than some of the other options in the area, yet more than a simple motel in town. You know, like Goldilocks, "just right." I especially want to note that the (included) breakfast that host John cooks for the guests was wonderful, some sweet, some savory, warm, homemade, natural and ample for the start of even an hearty ski day. They take note in advance of special food needs and serve with a choice of time options. The log style of the building is rustic but nicely furnished. The rooms are well designed and furnished with high quality linens and have lots of storage as some guests stay for weeks. The views from each room are very pretty, some to the Continental Divide, some to the woodland. Every single staff member was friendly and helpful. The central lounge area was large, comfortable, attractive and clean and with a central fireplace. There are also some other smaller gathering areas to sit and talk or read if you wish to be outside your room. And there are also some family and dog friendly cabins on site if you want more than a bedroom. Personally, the rooms in the main inn are just right for my needs. We will absolutely be back. It is convenient to local xc skiing and also just a 15 minute drive past the Winter Park Resort and not far at all from several quality dinner options. We met other guests using the lodging for all of these reasons. read more

Wow. That's all I can say. There's a reason this B&B consistently has 5 Stars. My Husband have stayed in similar spots, but the stay at WHI was far above the others. We came to celebrate our 7 year anniversary. Donna and Brian were so thoughtful and professional. They made sure we had everything we needed and wanted for our stay. Breakfast each morning was so delicious. Donna could have made it as a professional chef! We stayed in a dog friendly cabin, what fun to bring along our pup! My husband and I were married here just a few weeks ago and can't say enough about how wonderful our experience was. The Inn was incredibly comfortable and a perfect gathering place for our family and friends. The setting for the ceremony itself was stunning, and the tent was perfect for our reception. Wild Horse Catering knocked it out of the park with a delicious rehearsal dinner (I'm still drooling over the elk and butternut squash, not to mention the chocolate bourbon bread pudding) and wedding brunch (best frittata ever). John, Chris, Donna, Katie, Brigitte, Joe, and all the others made the weekend unforgettable. Extra bonus- we got to have our pup with us the whole weekend! Super cute B&B. We upgraded from a Living Social Deal to a dog friendly cabin. The extra cost was worth it for us for us to have our first family trip with the fur babies. We arrived late so the front desk left a detailed letter with instruction for us to get settled into our cabin. We unloaded in our Saddleback (?) cabin then came out to the jacuzzi in the back of the main cabin. It's really cool being surrounded by snow while sitting in a hot tub. Breakfast in the morning was a baked frittata with some potatoes. Delicious meal. Adequate portion. We really got to appreciate the beautiful lumbar in the main cabin! Such a gorgeous structure. John, the owner, came out and greeted everyone and introduced himself. Cool guy. Donna (?) at the front desk gave us a thorough and detailed suggestions for outing possibilities in the area. Super nice lady. I bought some handmade wool gloves made by a local lady then we headed out for a stroll around a local trail. It was beautiful. We wanted a hike but it had snowed the night before so we really enjoyed Donna's suggestion of the walk on the trail. We came back and enjoyed the jetted tub in our private cabin. Awesome sized tub that was perfect for the two of us. Have I mentioned the unique decor? Horse themed, of course, and very rustic. This was a very romantic getaway. Regardless of the fact that we both came down with a really bad cold. Not the fault of the cabin though. The stove fireplace keeps the whole cabin piping! read more

Nestled within the wintery pines of Fraser, Colorado, lies a beautiful log cabin known as the Wild Horse Inn. Although it's off the beaten path and a little hard to find [don't use mapquest directions!] this cozy, yet chic mansion is perfect for a night in with family or a loved one. As a special treat, my boyfriend booked us this b&b after seeing a speical on the internet. FREE for veterans, on a day or weekend day of your choice. Because of this awesome deal, overnight stays filled up quickly, leaving us with a Sunday night stay...which just happened to be perfect! Our room [Dogwood!] was very clean, nice and quite spacious. we had our very own bathroom and jacuzzi tub included [although it was a bit small for us both!]. The great room was decorated for christmas and had a roaring fire in the fireplace, creating the perfect atmosphere for having a glass of wine before going out on the town. Other notables? 1. The staff and level of service is amazing. Family owned and operated, this business prides themselves on treating everyone like family, making me feel right at home. The owners make a terrific breakfast, are quite social and not only gave us a history lesson on their home and the surrounding areas, but great ideas of things to do in town :) 2. The beds are amazingly comfortable. i slept great and woke up with a big smile on my face. 3. They offer deals [ like the one i took advantage of!] all year round :) I'm sure there are many more reasons as to why i love this place, but i can't count them all! overall-amazing and wonderful experience. i will DEF be back :) read more

You can not find a better B&B in the valley!!! We stayed here for our Honeymoon, we rented a cabin on the property. Wow how beautiful, surrounded by wildflowers and beautiful views!! When we arrived we were greeted by the owners and they were friendly and sweet and gave us a bottle of bubbly to start the celebration off right. The food was amazing during our stay, John the owner is an AMAZING cook!! His omelet was like nothing I have ever tasted! So good, fresh and fluffy!! The service was great, complementary wine and coffee, a wonderful library with and take a book leave a book style. It was the best getaway we had. Plus if you have an event to attend at the Devils Thumb Ranch I suggest you stay here, just a short 2 minuet drive, and better accommodations. Also you can't beat that it cost less :) read more

The experience that my fiancé and I had at our first ever BnB was incredible and I have to say that it is hard to rate it with just words and stars. I do want to add that this is one of the only reviews I've written where I would LOVE to give it 6 stars, but that goes to Bella, their wonderful, sweet, lovable dog!! We stayed over Memorial Day Weekend, which I assume is their off season, plus having the worst weather in 58 years doesn't help tourism too much. Anyway, there was one other couple there, who had a bedroom downstairs, while we stayed in the upstairs room called "Strawberry Creek". Our balcony faced the mountains, and waking up to a sunrise from the mountains is a perfect way to start every morning. The room has a comfy king size bed and a very nice private bathroom. Aside from the incredible hospitality, beautiful views, peace and serenity, I'd have to say that it was one of the cleanest houses I've ever been in. The breakfasts made by John (the owner) were absolutely amazing and fulfilling. They made sure to keep their bottomless cookie jar stacked with great cookies and there was always hot water for your choice of various teas and hot chocolate. The living room was stacked with a variety of books and the upstairs hallway had a huge selection of dvd's (and tapes) to pick from to watch privately in your own room. This was a very nice factor as they did not have any cable or local channels to scroll through. Overall, this was a fantastic two days of our trip and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. it will be hard to stay in other BnB's as we will always compare them to the wonderful Wild Horse Inn. read more

My wife and I had our wedding at Wild Horse Inn on August 9, 2014. We stumbled across the B&B over a year beforehand, and knew it was our ultimate wedding venue. The beautiful scenery, excellent staff, and comfortable accommodations fit the bill for our 75-guest wedding. One of our favorite parts about Wild Horse Inn is how personalized and intimate the space is. We booked the entire Inn for 2 nights, so it was only our family and friends the whole weekend. Any request we had, Donna, Chris, and John were more than willing to accommodate. Their sweet dog, Bella, greeted everyone with a bark and tail wagging. Breakfast was delicious and specific to the various dietary needs of our group. Wild Horse Catering is also amazing! The dinner they served was the best meal I've had in a long time, and that wasn't just the post-ceremony hunger/adrenaline. Thanks for making our wedding spectacular! read more

My wife picked this place for our wedding based on a recommendation from a friend. We were very pleased with the staff's attentiveness and professionalism. The staff worked very hard to ensure we had the best experience possible. The facility was beautiful and well kept. The rooms were all a little different to make them unique for each guest. Our family and friends who stayed there were very happy with the accommodations. On the day of our wedding, they hit a home run. Shelby our wedding coordinator did a great job ensuring everyone was taking care of us. The food was amazing and the staff bent over backwards to ensure we had a wonderful experience. The mountain views are amazing. The staff also provided a breakfast in he mornings between 8am-9am that enhanced the Bed & Breakfast experience. For our Winter Park honeymoon, my husband and I chose this bed and breakfast over one of the many huge hotels that have sprung up in that area. The Wild Horse Inn was a little hard to find at first, as it is a bit off the beaten path, nestled in a little patch of woodland. Despite being in easy driving distance of the ski slopes and local restaurants, in the evening, the surrounding area is quiet and free of most light and noise pollution. The inn itself is a big, rustic log-cabin structure, very warm and homey on the interior. A common living room is stocked with books and videos for the guests to peruse, and dominated by a huge two-sided fireplace. The other side of the fireplace looks into the dining room, where we found hot water, tea, coffee, a fruit bowl, and a jar of delicious cookies! Other amenities included an outdoor hot tub, a downstairs sauna and workout room and a whirlpool tub in our bedroom. They also provided soft, cozy robes and slippers. Oh, and about the breakfast! Amazing. Orange ginger french toast, fresh fruits, homemade coffee cake, and fancy herbed eggs. Completely delicious, cooked fresh to order, and with second helpings to go around. The owners / operators were polite, friendly, and completely accommodating, as were the two dogs that roamed the common areas, looking for stray belly rubs and ear scritches. The Wild Horse Inn was so much a part of our Winter Park experience that we're hoping to rent a cabin for our anniversary next year. read more

Nothing less than a five star review would be fair. It's definitely a great place to stay. The building is exquisite, the rooms are well appointed, and the staff is eager to please. They have really good internet, a vast library of books to enjoy, 100-150 movies available to watch, comfortable chairs and sofas in the great room in front of the fireplace, snow shoes to borrow, breakfast prepared for you every morning. Donna was great for advice for places to hike/ski/dine, the list goes on. The only issues we encountered were thin bedroom walls.... we had a movie on and had it turned down and our neighbors still knocked on the door and asked us to turn it down more. After we turned the movie off, we heard everything they were doing...while entertaining, it was awkward to see them at breakfast the next morning, (the movie would have been better). Also, coffee...brewed coffee is only available after 7 AM, when it's gone, it's gone...but instant coffee is available for the rest of the day and into the evening...(UGH). They should at least get a Keurig and provide a few K-cups for the afternoon and evening, otherwise you have to drive the 7-8 miles into town for a decent cup of coffee. Despite the minor issues, we would still recommend to our friends and would consider returning for future visits. read more

LOVED IT! We had an incredible time at The Wild Horse Inn. The inn itself is charming and attractive, and we loved the log cabin feel to the whole place. Our room (the Dogwood room) was clean and the bed was very comfortable. We really loved the feel of it. The owners John and Chris were personable and enjoyable, and John is an EXCELLENT cook! It was truly a joy to stay there and we will look for excuses to go back to Fraser / Winter Park just so we can stay at The Wild Horse Inn again. Thank you very much, John & Chris! We stayed here last weekend and had a blast. They have an awesome hot tub and the cabins are quaint. I really enjoyed the breakfast. There was also wine and sodas just waiting for us when we got there. The staff was very kind and helpful. They even helped us figure out what we where gonna do that day. I would recommend this place to get out of the hustle and bustle of the city and get out to great out doors. read more

My wife and I got married here and it was incredible. First the people who work and live here are kind, easy going, and take care of you. They also make really good breakfast. We booked the Wild Horse for the whole weekend, which was a perfect idea. We had the whole place to ourselves and our families were able to stay on site this way. The view is perfect and there is very little traffic because at the end of the road is the Devils Thumb Ranch and that's it. They have a hot tub, a few extra cabins not connected to the lodge and a huge deck. Also, the tent they have for parties was perfect size. We had 160+ people in there and it went really well. The catering that the Wild Horse uses is so good. They can cover it all from wild game elk to eggs and waffles and it all tastes better than you can imagine. We have nothing but good things to say about the people who work there and the services they provide. They are good, easy going folks that want to help you have a good time. read more

We contacted Wild Horse Catering over a year in advance of our wedding and everything seemed great, I had been to catered functions by them before and it was really good. I thought it was a little weird I had to contact them again when we were a few months out to plan the catering, then when I had to contact them again to set up the next appointment I thought it was a little rude. At that appointment the event coordinator (Brigitte) started throwing extra costs into our estimate that were never discussed at the initial meetings. She told us we had to provide them tables with which to do their cooking on, she tried to add on almost $100 in beer cups you can buy at the grocery store for $10, and adding more severs needlessly. Next they refused to do a tasting because they were "too busy". I had to ask her to even get her to answer me straight. I have NEVER EVER heard of paying a caterer thousands of dollars and not being able to taste the food that you paid for. I have talked to several other caterers around and they said that is included in the administration fee. We also had friends get married a few weeks before who had a wild horse caterer and they also got a tasting included. We originally chose wild horse because they were willing to make a special type of bbq pulled pork my fiance liked, but when it came down to it they just blew it off and did whatever they wanted. They just made pulled pork and hastily set a bottle of the sauce next to it so no one even knew to try it, and then threw all the sauce away afterwards. We wanted coleslaw to put on the pulled pork sandwiches (as is pretty common) and were told it would be an extra almost $500... for slaw!! (we ended up making it ourselves and they put a sign in front warning of food born illness). On the day of the event coordinator, Brigitte, THREW A CHAIR that family was trying to set up for the ceremony and yelled at the people we had helping us because apparently it was the wrong kind of chair... She was nice to me (because she knew I was paying and it was my wedding day) but was rude to everyone else trying to help us out. When they left they hastily took all of our extra food without even asking it we would like to keep it (there was a lot extra), and when I asked her about it the next day she said that she had told me to bring to-go boxes and since we didn't we didn't get any of the thousands of dollars of food we paid for. We never ever discussed to go boxes at any of our meetings. Overall our experience with Wild Horse was extremely stressful and negative. I'm not sure if it is the specific event coordinator or what the problem was but they completely tried to take advantage of us at every turn and were unhelpful when we needed it. The food was OK, but it wasn't what we had agreed on and I barely even got to taste it anyway because it was my wedding day. I would beware using them especially if Brigitte is your coordinator. We paid a lot of money for something we could have easily done ourselves with less stress or hired a much smaller company to do for a fraction of the cost. read more

I just spent 2 nights at the Wild Horse Inn and I'm glad I did. The place is beautiful, spotless, the rooms are comfortable, and the walls and doors are very good. I heard nothing from the other rooms. Breakfast is made fresh and hot every morning - no casseroles cooked the night before and reheated in the morning like the other B&Bs I've stayed at. Each room has its own bathroom with jacuzzi tub, and there's a hot tub out back. I was reading some of the other reviews and they hit on all the good things I've missed, so read them, too. read more

My wife and I stayed at the Inn for our son's wedding and worked with Wild Horse Catering for the rehearsal dinner. The lodge and cabins are very nice, new and clean and they can accommodate pets. The mountain meadow setting is stunningly beautiful and quiet. Our experience with Wild Horse Catering was excellent - the food was exceptional as was the bar and wait staff. Weddings can be stressful and the owners and staff worked very hard to ensure that all details came together to result in a wonderful time for all of us. Absolutely terrific. My husband and I headed to the Wild Horse Inn for a night over Memorial Day. The staff was very welcoming. The main in completely delightful with big, soft leather couches and chairs to sit around the fire and relax with a glass of wine. We stayed in the Mariposa Cabin which was very spacious and clean and private. We will definitely return to the Wild Horse Inn! Just spent three nights and this place is amazing. Beautiful main "lodge"-like inn. We stayed in one of the cabins which was great - your very own front porch to relax and take in all the scenery. John (one of the owners) cooks amazing breakfast and knows the area really well. We started each day eating breakfast and getting his recommendations on things to do. Among the best B&Bs I've ever stayed at. A gorgeous, well-maintained place, with a friendly host and homey amenities like hot beverages, wine and cookies available around the clock. Since the high altitude was sapping my energy for outdoor activities a bit, we spent a fair amount of time lounging in the inn's cozy living room reading by the fireplace. Breakfast was scrumptious. We very much enjoyed our stay 6/5 - 6/7, after skiing season and before summer festivals. The Inn is generally very quiet indoors and out, though we were grateful to have brought a small fan for white noise at night. Mornings were on the deck with coffee, surrounded by mountains and fresh air. Evenings were sipping complementary wine on the deck, enjoying the hot tub (alone), and watching a movie from their selection of DVDs. The complementary breakfasts were second to none; we're vegan, and John prepared excellent and creative food. Our bathroom window faced the front entry and had no curtain, so we did need to hang a towel over it for privacy. And the album of local restaurants' menus included menus of restaurants that are out of business, so call before you head into town. Otherwise, the Inn has easy access to hiking, biking, and picturesque views, dining, shopping, and more. Enjoy your stay! read more
