I went here for lunch when my Mom was in town. We sat outside on a beautiful day. Unfortunately, the traffic and sirens do not help the ambience. We also had the misfortune of two idiotic parents sitting right next to us who turned their daughter into a whiny/sniveling/crying child because they kept trying to get her to pull her loose tooth. True idiots. They were relentless in torturing the child, and thus made our lunch miserable. But that aside, I am issuing one star for the food. The place is called "Wild Pear," so you'd think their namesake salad would be a knock-out. It was not. You couldn't taste the pear because they were cut shoestring small. My mom thought she didn't get any pear in her salad. I literally had to hold up one of the tiny strings to show her that they existed, just not enough to taste them. Then they had these candied nuts that had such a thick coating of sugar, it was gross. My butternut squash soup was actually really good, but between the ambience and that ridiculous name-sake salad, I will never return. read more

Cute, quaint ambience in downtown Salem. Sat at the bar & staff was very attentive and quick to get my order/ask questions. I got the Cecilia's Bowl which was absolutely delicious and was intrigued by a lot of other menu options. Their dessert case looked great, but I had to resist today. read more

Definitely 4.5 stars... I knew it was worth the drive when I read the menu... and it was not a waste of time nor was it a let down ... I had been in the mood for a salad for a couple days, the Pear Salad is not a "meal salad" but it was a very nice light salad and when coupled with a sandwich or in my case White Bean Soup.. it was perfect and not heavy at all, I personally have cut salt almost completely out of my life, so I'm sensitive to it, the flavor profile was tremendous and well balanced but there was bacon (or other pork product) and that may have made it seem heavier than I'm used to - but only slightly and I'm sure most people would never have that opinion.. I still highly recommend it and will be back to try more menu items read more

I was really hopeful that this cute well set up cafe would be good. The service was with a snarl when you got it. We were there at 2 so not exactly rush hour but still a bit busy. The hummus and vegi was ok. The carrots those rounded Stubby pieces that are precut and dried out. Chicken salad was huge glob of sticky gooey chicken salad on 9 pieces of flat wilted Arugula. It could have been so much better with some greens and a lighter dressing. read more

One of my favorite spots in Salem. Currently, my favorite dish from their menu is the "Pho Dip". It's similar to the French dip, but instead you have a sandwich with condiments in pho that you dip into the bone broth. It's delicious, and considering that I am part of the culture that originated Pho.. I was impressed! They have very friendly staff members there who always provide above average service. They're considerate with the amount of time it takes to bring your food out & to take your order. Sometimes you might have to wait a little to be seated because how popular they are during lunch time. The location is always clean and neat. There hasn't been a time where I questioned the integrity of the location in addition to the food I was eating. The only downside about this location is that it's within downtown Salem and can be a pain in the rear to find a parking spot. I promise you though, it's worth it! read more

Started with a perfectly prepared ice tea. I know...not food but it was warm and needed refreshment. We dined here for lunch. I had the Lobster Crab melt. It was soooo good. And the mixed fries complemented very well. My wife had the Spaghetti Squash with a tasty tomato cream sauce. She raved about the fresh vibrant flavor. And did I mention that their ice tea is perfection. We plan to go back for dessert. read more

Yeah...this place is a no for me. What first annoyed me was standing just inside the door with other customers waiting for a seat, with no place to sit. For a long time. Everyone was in everyone's way. Too cold to sit or stand outside. After we were finally seated our waitress delivered my friend's teapot of hot water. Which had a piece of paper and two unidentified items floating in it. Food was just average. Slowest dang service. We walked in the door at 2pm and left at 4pm exactly. 2 hours for barely average tasting food is ridiculous. Just another Salem restaurant to avoid. read more

Definitely a place to go! The inside is so quaint- love the beautiful painting of Julia Child, and the historic building itself. The food was fantastic- especially their bread- wow!!! Chaotic service counter. 3 people said they would be right with me. A fourth person took my order and said it would be right up. 20 minutes later, somebody finally came up to me and asked me if I had an order and I said yes, apparently they could not find it or it was not entered correctly so she went back and got me my sandwich to go. I will say the seats near the doors are chilly with people coming in and out and holding the doors open while they wait for their tables because of the line and waiting. Just had lunch here and it was phenomenal. The Cecelia Bowl might be the best meal I've ever eaten. No lie. We bought and shared three desserts, the key lime tart, the strawberry lemon cake and the pear cheesecake. All were really good but the strawberry cake was my personal favorite. The decor is beautiful and everything was super clean. Staff was friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. I'm traveling and do not know when I will be back in the area so I'm a little sad because I would love to eat here as often as possible. Bottom line: Great food, great experience. Down in Salem for some work. This came up highly rated and deservedly so. The Ambience is great. Red leatherette banquettes, 20 foot ceilings adorned with the original tinwork from a time yonder. The menu, unlike the decor, is decidedly modern, drawing on diverse cultures while still being an accessible array of best hits. Meaning my buddy and I both had fantastic bowls of squash soup enruched with coconut milk and east asian seasonings and festooned with a garnish of painted creme fraiche. Rich and satisfying. He went for a chicken salad, I tested their Caesar, which was up to snuff. Another friend magically appeared and joined us halfway through. He also grabbed the soup and rounded it out with a turkey sandwich on a decent looking chunk of baguette. So there are no surprises here and the kitchen isn't putting on airs. Just solid American food inflected through the melting pot. I forget the pricing but it was fair. Like the food, no surprises--neither a great bargain nor out of line. Went there for lunch on a weekday. We expected it to be busy as it's downtown but we were seated right away. It took quite a long time for server to stop by. She was not dressed like other servers so had the idea that she was managing the place. After she finally took our drink orders she went away. It took a fair amount of time to get husband's lemonade. She took my drink order. After about 15 minutes of waiting I noticed that she was hugging other staff, chatting with many different staff, cleaning up some receipts and generally killing time. By then the bar man had already done all the orders & was cleaning the bar, opening up new bottles of wine and waiting on the table next to us. Our servers was still chatting with other servers, cutting a cake in half for a to go other, feeding to the other servers a slice of the cake they were eating in front of us with their fingers & she then came by with the leftovers to take back to kitchen. She disappeared in the kitchen for awhile and about 5 minutes later she came out and decided to make my drink (cocktail). Meanwhile the barman was now in a full server role. About another 5-10 minutes later our food came out. It was barely warm, apparently had been sitting, waiting for her to bring out for a while. I wouldn't be so disappointed if this similar kind of incident has happened to us the last time we ate here. We came back thinking it was a fluke. Clean. Pleasant environment. Food looks really good. However, I did not manage to eat here. The Wild Pear had a long waiting line at 11:45 am. In trying to get on the waiting list I told the woman that I was waiting for my disabled sister and we would probably not stay as the wait would be too long for her. She crossed me off the list and turned away. When I found her again and said that I had not wanted to be crossed off she offered to put me at the bottom of the list, 5 or 6 parties below where I would have been had she communicated with me. Another party left unseated. They made a reservation but the staff had not written it down. What bothers me the most was their lack of concern for my disabled sister. Since they won't take reservations except for large parties and don't answer their phone, I would think they would do something to accommodate the disabled. read more

This is a very good restaurant in Salem Oregon. I go here quite often when visiting. The Pho here is the best in Salem. Their Bloody Mary is amazing. They have a nice list of food on the menu, it's very clean and comfortable inside and the staff is very peppy and cheerful. The portions are huge and it's priced reasonably. First time coming to this restaurant, and I'm very disappointed. I ordered to go food and waited over 30 minutes extra ontop of my already 1.5 hour ahead of time that I ordered. Didn't get an apologize who any sense of urgency from the staff. People who ordered to go after me received their orders even before I got mine. I asked for extra dressing(was charged for it) and I didn't receive it. My steak I asked for medium rare; which came out well done. My salad had rusty and wilted lettuce. After a few disappointing experiences with local restaurants we came across this gem of an eatery. Located in a 19th century cigar store the tin pressed ceilings and parquet floors provide a casually formal nice atmosphere. One look at the menu had our imaginations piqued. The deliciously eclectic selections were more flavorful than anything we could have expected. From the amazingly rich lobster Mac and cheese to the pear salad everything delighted the tastebuds. And the desserts are edible Wayne Thiebaud paintings. While this restaurant may not have the same effect on you as it did me it is still worth a visit. read more

Went in on a Monday lunchtime. The food was awesome. I had the Vietnamese Pho dip and my wife the pulled pork sandwich. I would rate the Pho dip as one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. Service was good, it took a while for the food to arrive but that was understandable as the restaurant was very busy. Highly recommended! read more
