Clean & comfortable with a friendly reception. Pet friendly too! Our Molly gives it a 4 paws up. We would definitely stay again!

"Hello, Heartwood? I would like to make reservations for your Mother's Day Brunch for 9:00 a.m."…read more "How many will be in your party?" "Just me. My husband passed away in January." We went on, the two of us, talking pleasantries a bit more, stranger to stranger. I promised I would be there at 9:00 and hung up. The next morning, I was there on time and was greeted by the young woman who recognized my name. "We talked last night. You are our guest today. No charge." Stephanie said. I was dumbfounded and realized that she saw within me something I didn't realize I had revealed--that I needed to be pampered, that I was vulnerable, that I was tired, that I was worried, that I hurt. I had never alluded to any of that over the phone, but she knew. The staff regularly checked on me, the owner especially making certain I was fine, and I was. The brunch was amazing, filled with luscious entrees, a far cry from the normal Northwoods pizza-hamburger venues. I was also able to enjoy watching the young parents with their children, lining up for their eggs and shrimp and everything delightful. I am home now and soon I will be watching a movie--probably a western--that my husband would have liked. I will remember him telling me all about the lives of the actors, how this movie compared to another, how the plots developed. I will remember my folks and wish they were again enjoying the rustic comforts of the cabin. I will remember my caring son and daughter who will call later to see what mischief I have been into. And I will remember the "strangers" who crossed my path today to help point me forward into a journey of hope.

That said the event hosted around 176 people for dinner and the Duces Wild music show. First, the place is beautiful and vert well maintained. The meal we had was terrific (Walleye). The other choices were Rib eye steak and a chicken dish. We didn't hear one negative comment about the food. The service was great, food was hot and served quickly. A real accomplishment in today's market where no one wants to work. We will go back!

Now since the new owners have taken over there have been a lot of improvements. The pool area. The restaurant and bar. I ate twice at the restaurant. Having a ribeye and burger Very good I have seen it said pricey did not seem bad. The cabin was nice and clean and a nice layout great wi-fi. I believe it is one of the originals. Can see where a bathroom was added. We knew the original owners back around 1959 I guess they had outhouses. Probably why the BR's are so so small. But no big thing. Only complaint was super soft mattress. A little firmness would be appreciated. And very limited dock space rumor is more cannot be added so as not to look like a marina. But as more show up it is hard to get your boat in and out. And the ramp is a bit brutal workable but could use an upgrade. Overall very nice as were the owners. Probably my last trip up there now am in middle TN.

Some friends were there for dinner and we met them for a drink before. The host kept coming back to us and asking us if we were a certain group, even after saying no multiple times. Oddly enough, before they were seated they were told by the bartender that it would be impossible to order appetizers at the bar and they had to wait until they were seated. Wouldn't even allow them to be ordered and paid for at the bar, which I found a bit strange. I have not been here on a late night and maybe they do bands or dances or something like that which would explain the open/wasted space inside. Lastly, they are a resort and it appears that they prefer resort traffic over the local or local cabin traffic.
