We went on, the two of us, talking pleasantries a bit more, stranger to stranger. I promised I would be there at 9:00 and hung up. The next morning, I was there on time and was greeted by the young woman who recognized my name. "We talked last night. You are our guest today. No charge." Stephanie said. I was dumbfounded and realized that she saw within me something I didn't realize I had revealed--that I needed to be pampered, that I was vulnerable, that I was tired, that I was worried, that I hurt. I had never alluded to any of that over the phone, but she knew. The staff regularly checked on me, the owner especially making certain I was fine, and I was. The brunch was amazing, filled with luscious entrees, a far cry from the normal Northwoods pizza-hamburger venues. I was also able to enjoy watching the young parents with their children, lining up for their eggs and shrimp and everything delightful. I am home now and soon I will be watching a movie--probably a western--that my husband would have liked. I will remember him telling me all about the lives of the actors, how this movie compared to another, how the plots developed. I will remember my folks and wish they were again enjoying the rustic comforts of the cabin. I will remember my caring son and daughter who will call later to see what mischief I have been into. And I will remember the "strangers" who crossed my path today to help point me forward into a journey of hope. read more

We attended a dinner and live music show there 6/5/2021. I m aware of some of the history of the place, but am not sure when the present owner took over. That said the event hosted around 176 people for dinner and the Duces Wild music show. First, the place is beautiful and vert well maintained. The meal we had was terrific (Walleye). The other choices were Rib eye steak and a chicken dish. We didn't hear one negative comment about the food. The service was great, food was hot and served quickly. A real accomplishment in today's market where no one wants to work. We will go back! read more

We stayed in the cottage across the lake from the main resort there's four cottages and one private one off on its own. they're nice. kind of expensive I guess not horribly bad we were excited about the gas fireplace only to find out that after it's on a bit the fan kicks in and the fan is very very loud and then a little bit after that there's some sort of a rattle starts to go as well it's quite a racket and it seems like the fan stays on for about an hour after you shut it off. This was for cottage 3. They are spread apart pretty good three and four as well as one and two kind of share a fire pit areas not really share but they're close together where you where you would hang out but otherwise they're nicely spaced. the row boats and the dock are right by cabin 1 which I would say is probably the best location of the four especially the nicest view then I think cabin 2 has the next best view. read more

The labor day weekend 2023 was pretty bad - the mud bog/race or whatever you want to call it was very small and have seen better just a back yard - it is definitely not worth it for VIP passes - only good thing about the whole weekend was Hairball. other bands were under a small tent with a small stage - even the opener for Hairball was not on the main stage. should have purchased online for just friday night and skipped the rest of the weekend read more

Beautiful resort! Rooms are nice, spacious with a mini kitchen in Bald Eagle. The resort is huge with free use of kayaks, canoes, bikes. There's a bunch of both volleyball and basketball courts with free equipment available. There's tons of walking trails, a beautiful lake and a nice restaurant (dinners only a couple of nights/week.) We didn't eat here because we were here to attend a wedding. The cons: 1. Room: mini kitchen had no paper towel, no dish rag or dish towels. We ran out of tissues in the bathroom. The toilet and sink really needed a good cleaning. The rest of the room was clean. It almost seems like maybe the room hadn't been used for a while perhaps. We had a smoking couple below us and every time we tried to open the door or go out on our little deck someone was out there smoking. We're allergic to smoke this this was very uncomfortable for us. It would nice if there was no smoking within a distance of each building. 2. Would've been nice to have breakfast available at the restaurant on the weekend. The nearest restaurants were a minimum of 20" drive. We liked Mama Jo's in Webster and LOVED Riverstreet Family Restaurant in Spooner. Overall a very nice resort. read more

We attended a wedding here in late July 2023. A beautiful venue, lovely spacious rooms , and the food for the wedding was delicious, served quickly and professionally, and all the staff were very gracious. The host was attentive to all the guests and the wedding party. We had not been here before, but would definitely come again! read more

This past weekend was our mother/son retreat with our 9 year old boys. We had a blast and the resort crew were fantastic hosts! Shout out to Mike, Jimbo, Nate and the 'rock star' waitress (I'm so sorry I blanked her name). You all are amazing! My dear friend Markus Milkla would be so proud. I highly recommend the Lake House! This place has been slipping. Been coming for years but they are lacking some basic amenities that have gotten increasingly worse. A hotel needs to provide guests with quality grab and go coffee in the lobby. I don't want to drive 1.5 miles down the road for a cup. Also 'conditioning shampoo', no. Provide conditioner. There should be some complimentary bottles of water in the room, it's basic hospitality. The hot tub is still broken. The new restaurant situation stinks. The old restaurant was fun because as a single guest I could eat and then wonder outside for entertainment. Now the restaurant is stale in the main room and to listen to music you, again, have to drive 1.5 miles down the road to an awkward bar. The lake needs to be cleaned of moss and debris, it's barely swimmable. It's past time to give thee rooms a face lift. The employees are friendly but the rest is stale. I don't think I'm staying here next year when I pick my daughter up from camp. read more

We attended the New Years Eve event. The charcuterie board snacks were excellent, the staff was friendly and attentive, the deserts were good, the band was great! The tables were numbered and seats assigned for dinner which was impressive. The dismissing of everyone at the same time to go to the buffet was subpar. The meal was less than expected for a high end event, much of it being cold. Are we glad we went, yes. Would we do it again, probably not. read more

Last year "pandemic year" our family had planned a vacation to the resort way before the crap hit the fan, we didn't cancel, we did the trip anyway. We were treated great, they really put on a good show for us... fast forward a year and this place has completely changed. No raft anymore, no firewood with your stay, charging now $5 a" bundle" that is far short from a fair amount. Broken hot tub, again! Rude staff, restaurant advertised "all you can eat fish" even had us all pre-order so they would be sure there was enough, turns out that was a lie too. Worst dinner service I've seen in a while, especially for a group that spent $500+ dollars to eat. No channels available for their dish network either. Just a all around bad experience. Just goes to show, management only cared about our huge group last year because they were struggling, this year they could care less. Very unfortunate and we will not be back. read more

What a great wedding venue! From the white chairs out on the lawn by the lake (so pretty!) for the ceremony to the cozy hall for social hour to the gorgeous reception room for a wonderful dinner and dance...it couldn't have been more perfect. The Heartwood staff were all so amazing, from rehearsal dinner at Pine Lodge (perfect!) throughout the weekend. Everyone worked hard and so quietly and discreetly set things up, moved things, etc. Wait staff, custodians, bartenders, front desk, housekeeping...5 stars all! Our 1st visit was nice. It's a beautiful property. Attempting to make another reservation, I asked to speak to the new owner & it took 1 month to hear back. Then, Covid 19 hit. Understanding the need to close per WI Covid rules, upon opening back up, I called twice to make a reservation to no answer. Now that they are open, the hotel Covid rules have gotten worse You can book 2 rooms & get a night free but it comes with a closed kitchen, no room service, a closed bar and no housekeeping during your stay. Oh! But please feel welcome to set your trash in the hallway for pick up. They just got new management, I would recommend to hire another one. I would not recommend this hotel. read more

We had a group of 4. First off they wanted to seat us at different tables. The meal was a very poorly planned event. From the beginning to the end one small but odd thing was there where no crackers or any type of bread or butter. Never have seen that. All of the food during dinner service was cold and I think one or two people got a scallop. Then after a disappointing meal we moved down to the area where the band was going to play. They had I think 4 or 5 tables. No chairs for anyone else. That is a wonderful plan when you have a couple hundred people. They finally brought out chairs and people just sat every and anywhere they wanted. It was the worst event planning I have ever seen. Then someone opened a door to the outside and the whole room was freezing until I went and got someone to close it. The prices for the bar drinks where some of the most I have ever seen. For the money that was spent on the Dinner and music I feel they owe us a refund. I WOULD NEVER GO THERE AGAIN! read more

New Year's Eve was so much fun! The social hour and horsdoeuvres were great. The buffet was spectacular with a little bit of everything on it. The staff are all Super! Stephanie at the desk was sweet, our server for table 27 was great. The staff worked their tails off. Very busy. A couple of disappointments were the confusion for the lines to the buffet, and I went 3 times to get scallops but never got to taste them. The third time they said they were all out. Darn! Just a hint.... more scallops next time please- evidently they were a hit! Also one more little thing... do away with the tables in the ballroom and put up more chairs. Not enough chairs and had to sit by the speakers Yow! Could have fit many more chairs. Not complaining just think it could have been a little more organized. Other than that, which was minute, it couldn't of been better. We're thinking on this year!!! Happiest of New Year, and may you have a blessed and prosperous 2023. I'll definitely stay again. I stayed in one of the "hotel" rooms with three friends last weekend. The room was spacious with a large bathroom and a kitchen area complete with a cooktop. We were on the first floor and our room had an additional door with a screen so we kept it open and had fresh air while inside. We were hoping to tube but the weather wasn't warm enough, so we booked a canoe trip. Donn, the rec manager, was very friendly and helpful. We ended up cancelling when it started to rain a little, but Donn was still friendly and gave us options of other things to do. They have a bunch of games in the main lodge so we took some back to our room to play. While we didn't get outside as much as we'd planned, we didn't get bored and we enjoyed ourselves. Sunday morning they offered a breakfast buffet for $11.30 (inc tax). We got up early and were the second table there! They had a large variety of offerings from fresh fruit and juices, to cold cereal and rolls, to breakfast burritos and french toast bake. Definately worth the money! The only thing that put a damper on our weekend was the fact that there was a wedding there on Sat afternoon/night. Maybe we should've asked when making a reservation, but it would have been nice to know. The staff was very preoccupied with the wedding and it basically took over the main lodge. We were hoping to use the fire pits at the lodge but were told the wedding was using them and there weren't alternate options for us. We made smores on the stove in our room! And when we called the front desk to ask for more shampoo, they said they'd bring some to us but never showed up. I've been here many times and will continue to go back, I'll just ask more questions next time! read more

As a former Wedding Planner, I had a specific vision of how I wanted our wedding to be and Heartwood made it happen!! We wanted a facility that had separate spaces for an indoor ceremony and reception for 130-150 guests, rehearsal dinner, lodging for everyone, was within 3 hours of the twin cities, was reasonably priced and had the decor that would fit with our city girl/country boy design preferences. We looked at 10+ places all over MN and WI and fell in love with Heartwood instantly. The Coordinators at Heartwood were great! They happily accommodated all of my ideas including our Wild Game Station and Pasta Bar Station! They were very collaborative during the planning process and the staff was on hand all weekend to help with whatever was needed. Karla the Event Manager was fabulous!!! The lodging facilities were awesome and very well priced. The hotel rooms are close to the reception room and there are many large cabins available a short drive away that accommodated the larger family groups. Our family and friends had so much fun!! Our group took over the resort and it allowed for a really fun bonding time between our 2 families. Many people commented on how this was the best wedding they have been to in a long time! I would highly recommend Heartwood to any bride! read more

Our family of four had a wonderful and relaxing vacation when we stayed two nights in the lodge on a Groupon deal. The weather was very cold and the snow not too good for skiing. The ski trails had been closed but I was glad they had groomed a trail on the lake where I enjoyed skiing. We enjoyed hiking, snow tubing and ice skating outdoors. The restaurant meal was very good. I'm not fond of white bread buns but the fish and roasted vegetables were quite good. We enjoyed the workout room, billiard table and fireplace inside when the temperature was below zero outside. All the the service was excellent! We would like to go back next summer for a week stay at one of the cabins. read more

Purchased a groupon and stayed in one of the duplex bungalo's. Very nice resort. Many hiking and biking trails. Fishing was not very good, mostly smaller fish but have been told there are bigger. Did not visit the restraunt as we brought everything we planned to cook. I would stay here again. In the the Duplex you have 1 queen bed and 3 other bedrooms with 2 bunkbeads each(mattress kinda hard). Restroom has 2 toilets and 2 showers. Also has float trips, kayaking and canoeing on nearby river. read more

Heartwood is peaceful, beautiful and very clean and fresh feeling. My wife and I have been here twice - once late spring and one in the fall when the leaves were amazing! Love the hot tub! I recommend Heartwood - but it is a little pricey. read more
