Oh microblading, how I love you so! I had been researching different microblading artists around town for over 6 months. I had consultations, I poured over Instagram accounts, and I read countless reviews. I decided to go with Maris for 4 reasons (1) her instagram showed all shapes and sizes of brows, not just a one size fits all. (2) her prices, by far the best in town (3) she is first and foremost a makeup artist, so I felt she had a keen understanding of shapes and colors, and (4) my friend used her and she looked amazing. The day of my appointment came, and I can't lie, I was so nervous. What was I thinking getting tattooed on my FACE?! But I looked at her Instagram page again, looked in the mirror at my sad brows, and got out of my car and entered her salon. Maris is just straight up cool and laid back. She made me feel comfortable and listened to me say, over and over again, that I wanted them to look natural. She was patient and went over everything. The first question people ask me is "did it hurt?" Not. One. Bit. I attribute this to the numbing cream and Maris's touch. When I was finished, she gave me instructions on what to do the next 2 weeks. I taped the instructions to my bathroom mirror and took care of my brows just as I was instructed. And.... Maris has one talented hand. Or two. This woman knows how to make you look like an extremely gorgeous version of yourself. Maris did the makeup for my boudoir and bridal shoots, and also did the makeup for my entire bridal party on the wedding day in March. Everyone loved their make up--my maid of honor has been trying to replicate the "look" Maris gave her with no luck. We common Earthlings just aren't capable. Also, I had my bachelorette party the day after my bridal shoot, so I preserved the bombshell eye makeup overnight and got two days of use out of that job! If I ever have another photo shoot or feel like going out in fabulous style, I'll pay Maris a visit for sure. I highly recommend! read more

I am so confused by all of the rave reviews. Maris was cold, frigid, and rude to me (bride), bridesmaids, and pretty much anyone who walked into the room. She has her thing, and really doesn't change anything up. She creates the makeup line she uses and is not a fan of requests to use something else. The makeup appears to have a massive talc base, creating a very chalky appearance on darker skin tones. Not recommended unless you are looking for someone to kill the vibe, damper your excitement, and is a ruuuude elephant in the room. Also not recommended if you have darker skin tone. read more

I rarely wear much makeup, and the only times I have ever had a full face of makeup have been for weddings. That said, I knew that for photos and as a treat for my bridesmaids (who had similar makeup experience to my own) that I should really arrange for a makeup artist for my wedding. I got Maris' name from our photographer, Shannon Cunningham (also excellent), and made an appointment for a trial run about a month before the wedding. I was able to coordinate the makeup with an engagement photo shoot to see what the makeup would look like in photos. First look in the mirror having that much makeup on made me wince a little, and my fiance had a similar reaction, but it wasn't bad . . . just different. And when we got the photos back a couple of weeks later, we were stunned by how good it looked. We had a mid-day wedding, so Maris arranged for a colleague to assist so that the 7 of us would be ready in time without having to wake up before sunrise. They handled a whole range of skin tones and face shapes quickly and perfectly. Everyone was extremely happy with their makeup, and everyone looked like themselves rather than a cookie-cutter idea of what a bridal party "should" look like. The makeup also lasted very well. We went swimming at Barton Springs after the wedding, and the one of us who didn't take her makeup off beforehand climbed out of the springs still looking extra polished. read more

Maris is amazing! I had a great experience with her while shopping around for makeup artists for my wedding and photo shoots for my engagement and bridal - she was extremely prompt with getting back to me and informative in her voicemails and emails and answered all my questions patiently. She is a little more costly than others but it's worth it to feel like she listens to you and you can trust her work. She asked me many questions before she began and checked in for feedback and adjusted accordingly for my engagement shoot trial and actual engagement shoot makeup. I looked flawless for hours and I still looked like me...just a better version of me! She will be doing my bridal shoot makeup (without a trial because I trust her to make sure I love it before I walk out) as well as my wedding day makeup and makeup for the moms. She spent a lot of time with me to ensure my result is exactly what I wanted, and she is extremely professional and knowledgeable. Maris is by far the best makeup artist I've had the good fortune to work with. She's done my makeup at least a dozen times at various photo shoots, and her versatility is endless. I had her do the makeup for my headshots and wow--my cheekbones were killer, but even better, it looked like I hardly had any makeup on. This is where Maris excels, she's able to bring out the beauty in every face, and make you look uniquely you, but an eye-popping, jaw dropping, hubba hubba "you". Her makeup is never overdone, just perfect, beautiful, and natural. Now that I've raved about her natural makeup, I'll give you a run-down of her avant-garde and fashion skills. Um, can I say I'm a little in love with Maris? Or that's probably the ultimate vanity, since I pretty much love how she made me look gorgeous :D? Maris did my makeup when I was a bridesmaid about a month ago, and also did the makeup for the bride and the maid of honor. I was pretty much sold on splurging for Maris because (a) her online portfolio demonstrated looks that I *loved*, and included a darker-complected girl, which I just worry about since I don't know how makeup works, and I worry that my skintone can't be matched. But (b) her session *includes* lashes!!! I was already contemplating getting a partial lash extension via grouponNow, but the cost of Maris's handiwork would have been the equivalent of that lash deal + makeup by the other makeup artist who was coming in that day for the other bridal party members. Of course the lashes Maris used were single-use, but still. I loved them -- dramatic enough to make my eyes pop, but not crazy fake (I'm afraid I insulted her when I asked her to explain the diff between my choice of medium-length and full-length, and asked her if the full was super crazy. Oops!) I totally didn't have to worry about matching skintone -- Maris's airbrush-foundation allows her to create *any* shade, using a combo of 4 (or less) shades. And I also loved that she explained what she was doing (or right before she did it) -- when I described "natural" to her as the look I wanted, she said she'd stick to a brown palette. With my naturally darker skin, I was worried bc brown eyeshadow always looks like crap on me. But what she did was awesome. AND she took the time afterwards to show me what she used, when I had told her my worries about brown, despite her saying that browns usually look good on darker complexions -- AND she explained what *range* of brown shadows to look for when I go shopping. I love it when artists share their knowledge :)! **btdubs: So, I'm looking at Maris's other reviews, and I see they're all 5-stars -- and maybe I'm nuts bc usually if I see all 5-star-reviews for a vendor, and I think, "Hmm, those *must* be fake." I have had the pleasure of knowing Maris since 2007 and she is by far THE BEST Makeup artist I have ever dealt with. She is personable, sweet, patient and most importantly a professional at what she does. She took care of me, my bridal party and mothers for my wedding this May and every single woman 1) looked more beautiful than I had ever seen them and 2) loved, loved, loved Maris. Maris recently did my makeup for my wedding and she did an amazing job. She was great with communicating with me by email (my preference) and was easy to work with overall. I brought just a couple of pictures with me to my trial run and she did a great job of creating a look that matched the pictures and worked well with my face. We tried out longer eyelashes and multiple lip colors to see what I would like best. She then took my feedback after the trial to make some minor adjustments for the day of (shorter lashes, a little more coverage around the nose, etc.) On the day of the wedding, she was on time, pleasant, and provided me with some lip gloss samples and blotting sheets for touch ups throughout the day and night. One thing to note is she did my makeup at 10:00 AM (TEN AM!) and it lasted well up until the ceremony (6:00pm) and through the reception (ended at 10:00pm). I did touch up my lipstick a few times, which she had advised me to do as needed, but never felt the need to touch up anything else. It was awesome and exactly what I wanted. I would definitely recommend Maris's services. I would also recommend doing the trial run because you can take pictures, look back later, and see if there is anything you would change. You can also test out how long it will last through the night that way. read more

Maris is an AMAZING make-up artist and did the make-up for my wedding my mom, my (now) mother-in-law, my maid of honor, and me (the bride). She is by far the best make-up artist I have ever had, and I have had professional make-up done multiple times. Her airbrushing techniques, color choices, style options, and totally flexible and laid back attitude make the whole experience enjoyable and fun. She helped keep me calm because she is so relaxed and confident herself. My maid of honor is already looking forward to having her do the make-up for her wedding, and I wouldn't think twice about who to ask to do my make-up again for another event. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND! I'm so glad that I chose Maris as my wedding makeup artist. I didn't have a bridal party, but she also did the makeup for my mother, future MIL & SIL. She is lovely, professional, and a true artist. She made all of us look the best that we ever have without making us look like different people. She has a great taste level and is able to say if she believes something will work for you or if it won't, she is also more than willing to try different looks on you to make sure that you are happy. She works very quickly but the quality of the makeup is not compromised, she is just that good. The airbrush makeup was flawless, the way it should be and stayed on from 11 am till well into the wee hours of the next day. I lucked out by getting a last minute appointment with this brilliant makeup artist- Maris, for my friend's wedding this past weekend! After seeing Maris' on-line portfolio and reading all of the great reviews I thought there was no way I was getting my canvas turned into art on such short notice. I have never been happier to be so wrong. Maris pays close attention to what you have to say about your desired look and is more than willing to show you her work to give you ideas if you are not certain of what look you wish to showcase. She takes the time to stop and check with you after doing an area of your face to make sure that you are satisfied with the look or see if you want any changes, which of course I didn't, b/c she is fab! I cannot stress how important that is when you are getting your makeup done, especially after our bride came in 10 minutes before her ceremony, from getting her makeup done at a chain salon, and was bare faced. Girl ended up doing her own makeup after they reapplied it 3 different times/ways to her dislike. It was important to her to look like herself & even after explaining that to the "artists" there, as well as showing them pics, she sadly did not. With Maris on the other hand, you come out looking like yourself, only better! The airbrush makeup was a light look, but provided a full smooth coverage, and stayed put ALL day long. I was very concerned about the stay put factor as the only available spot Maris had was early AM and the wedding was 4 1/2 hours later, reception 6 1/2. Side note- she was even kind enough to try to move some appt's around that day to get me in later, to no avail. It was a sweet gesture on her part though, no doubt. Also, I have extremely greasy skin, so much so that I am sure to look 35 when I'm 98 because of my forever "hydrated" skin. That being said, I didn't have to retouch or apply powder at any point. The only reapplying I had to do was with the lipstick, which she advised me in advance that it is supposed to be long wear, but does at times wear off. She offered to send some touch up with me for later, but I had a similar color at home, so there was no need. Everything else, eyes included, stayed perfect until I washed it all off. Super long review story short, Maris is a talented artist that I would highly recommend. She made me look beautiful, even while I ran my mouth the entire time. (Obviously, I am a little wordy, 4 paragraphs later, run on sentences included. ;-}) She was so personable, sweet, and easy to talk to, the hour flew by. Maris is simply the best wedding makeup artist a girl could ever ask for! She did my makeup for not only my wedding day, but also my bridals and a trial run, and I could not have been happier with the results. Maris is super professional and extremely good at what she does, and she is also very fun and easy to get along with. As an out-of-town bride, it was quite difficult for both Maris and me to coordinate our sessions, by email and to accommodate the inflexible times and places that I would be in town, but she was super flexible, even to the extent of being willing to work with me, in a specific out-of-salon location on her one day off of the week! For the bridals and the wedding day itself, I got so many compliments on my makeup, and my Mom and bridesmaids who also had their makeup done by Maris could not say enough good things about how she made them comfortable, listened to their suggestions and requests, and was simply easy and enjoyable to talk to. For being the best in town and for an industry that is notoriously over-priced, her prices are extremely reasonable! Maris is professional, fun and she works magic. Maris and her assistant did my makeup and 11 of my closest friends and family and everyone LOVED her work! I have fair skin and freckles and wanted to look glamourous, but also wanted to make sure that my face matched the skin exposed by my strapless gown. From 2pm to midnight, I absolutely looked my best. My 80 year old grandmother and my 21 year old bridesmaid were equally happy with the results of the airbrush makeup and false lashes. I decided upon airbrushed makeup late in the game. It was getting close to my wedding and a friend suggested that I consider doing airbrushed makeup for a long lasting and flawless look. Luckily I was able to get in touch with Maris to work with to create my ideal makeup look. She was so amazing to work with!! When I met her for a demo/trial run, she really took the time to listen to what I was wanting in terms of my makeup. She got the base done flawlessly and then it was on to the rest of the makeup. We started lighter and added on until I felt that I had the look that I wanted. Interestingly enough, I wanted my eyes much smokier than I originally thought and she was able to bring out the true beauty without making it look "made up." On my wedding day, she remembered what we decided upon during the trial run and smoothly replicated it, making me the most beautiful me that I have seen. I felt glamorous and ready for the day's events. The makeup stayed on ALL DAY! It was AMAZING! (and honestly, it was just like she said it would be--the woman knows her stuff!!!) Maris is amazing!! I can't tell you how many times, my bridesmaids have gushed about how beautiful they felt on my wedding day. Maris really listened to what I wanted for my wedding day makeup. We looked at pictures together of different types of makeup and discussed what I did or did not like about them so that she could really understand my style. Maris is an AMAZING! artist! I went to Maris for my wedding makeup back in October '12. First of all, I was not into makeup nor did I know the first thing about it at all. However, for my wedding I knew exactly the look that I wanted: Dita Von Teese minus the red lipstick. I wanted a pinup look that was natural and light weight enough to wear for a daytime wedding. Maris listened to what I wanted, showed me great examples and locked down on the look! I never worse faux eyelashes before and neither had my mom! Everything came out great and lasted from about 1 in the afternoon till I took a shower in to the wee hours of the next morning!!! It all felt completely natural, not caked on and came out looking fantastic in the wedding photos! Maris is really sweet, explains what she's doing and why, and really listens to what you want. If there's one thing Maris knows, it's make-up! I rarely wear makeup on a day-to-day basis and therefore was a bit daunted by the whole process, but Maris made me feel completely at ease. The best thing about the air-brush technique that she uses is that you can put on as little or as much as you're comfortable with. It goes on very lightly and doesn't feel cakey like regular foundation. The trial session was extremely helpful because she tried two different styles (a brown palette and a gray palette), and a light and dark version of both. She took a picture of each one and emailed them to me almost immediately so I could have them on hand to decide what final style to use for the wedding. It was a lot easier to make a decision looking at them retrospectively in the pictures than it was in person with the make-up on. On my wedding day, Maris showed up early and was completely laid back and friendly. She's very efficient in her work and even though we had been behind in time after my hair was finished (my fault), she helped us get back on track and the end result looked amazing. SO many people made comments throughout the night and it was great feeling beautiful on my wedding day. The bottom line: if you need any kind of make-up done (which I highly recommend even if you're not a big make-up wearer) you should most definitely book Maris!! read more
