This is fast becoming my favorite restaurant! I'm from Toronto and my son goes to Waterloo University. The highlight of every trip. Picking him up and dropping him off at school is stopping at this restaurant. The menu is incredible. The ambiance is excellent. Love the long bar. The TVs. There are about four or five dishes that I love and and they'll always taste amazing. Never any drop off in koala. In the service is also excellent. Abbey is my fav but they're all great! This is a nice classy restaurant in Waterloo. We dropped by to see our son who is attending university at the University of Waterloo. On Thanksgiving day we went to the restaurant to have a dinner around 8 pm. We ordered our drinks and food. We sat in a corner booth next to the bar. It was a cold evening outside and we immediately noticed that the temperature in the room was quite low. Actually, it was quite chilly there. We spoke to a waitress about it and she admitted that and said that some other customers complained about that too. She said that she would talk to her manager about it. We ate our food, but we felt very uncomfortable seating in so cold environment. I complained to the waitress again, and she said that the heating was presently turned on, but it will take a long time before we could see any change. I asked to talk to the manager, and when she came she explained that she came to work not so long ago and therefore the temperature issue was not taken care of. To me that explanation was not satisfactory as the outside temperature was known for a long time and the restaurant personnel should have turned the heat on a long time ago. We have paid $100 for dinner, which was not enjoyable because of personnel negligence. This should have never happened in a higher class restaurant as Wildcraft claims to be. That's a shame. In addition, one of the items we ordered were nachos, and unfortunately, although the portions were big, full of nacho chips, but the rest of dish ingredients were of poor quality and quantity. Was visiting to Waterloo for business and a hotel staff member recommended this place to me. Not just that, he also said that I should definitely try the Wildcraft Burger as it was one of the most popular dishes here, so when I walked in, I knew exactly what I was going to get. I walking in at about 8:25 pm, and the place was relatively busy on a Wednesday night. Noise level was average. They have a very nice bar area and some high tables for 2 around the bar. I was seated right away and got the the Wildcraft burger ($18) with lettuce wrap and was charged a dollar more for the wrap. Interestingly enough, while ordering the burger, I wasn't asked for the temperature, but when I asked I was told that their recommended temperature was medium well. Food arrived within 20 minutes and was accompanied by some delicious, fresh and crispy fries which were seasoned with a little bit of oregano. The burger itself was ok, nothing great about it. I felt it could've used some more seasoning. Service was very good and the staff was very attentive. Will definitely visit again if I am in the area to try out something from their very interesting looking plant based menu. read more

We went back after manager reassured me our next visit would be better than last..,,it was! Staff were friendly and attentive to my needs for gf, dairy free veg food. My app was so good and so big that I had to cancel my entree. They made the lettuce wraps and used mushrooms instead of chicken. The noodles were rice, so gf and aioli was dairy free...very tasty. Was lucky to get in for an early dinner as they were only seating 10 parties. To our good luck we were able to have our pick of tables and so chose a nice table by the fireplace. Lovely quiet atmosphere with good service. We had the Peking duck tacos for an appetizer, steak frites and steak poivre for our mains, and the dark chocolate brownie for desert. The appy and mains were on point but thought the brownie desert was a bit lackluster and cold. All in all though it was quite an enjoyable meal. read more

We had a reservation for 7 and we got to place our order for drinks at 7:30. Overpriced pub food, we were served lukewarm water and then our server disappeared.....poof!!!! I would not recommend this place even if you pay me. 3 stars is because my steak was very good. The fries were no bigger then half inch and tasted like they were cooked yesterday. Classiest restaurant in town. I moved here about 5 months ago a week before the COVID-19 lockdown and couldn't wait to get out and support local businesses. Ended up finding this gem in Waterloo. The friendliness in service and the top notch cuisine and long bar choice quickly made me fall in love with this place. They have a wide selection of local craft beers, a refined imported selection. An incredible cocktail menu, and a prepared staff. The wine cellar is something to ride home about. But what really strikes me as their priority, is the excellent service. Top notch. A popular steakhouse on King in Waterloo. Wildcraft has a cozy wood fire interior and a nice open patio. The menu's got good variety with popular starters including beef carpaccio, calamari and a soft cheese board. For mains the group tried the filet mignon, asked for medium rare, cooked medium well. Also tried the filet bistro, very salty, but good potato and marinated mushroom on the side. The tuna bowl is also salty and the noodle base not particularly good. Presentation is great though! Service was slow particularly on a Friday before 5...the restaurant was pretty empty. A dairy allergy was neglected for one of the appetizers as well. Overall food is hit or miss with service leaving a little to be desired. read more

I celebrated my 31st birthday here, it was my first Wildcraft experience and it was by far the best service I have ever received. This is coming from a seasoned server of 10+ years serving fine dining. Justin, a supervisor/ manager went above and beyond to make our group feel like we were weekly regulars and didn't hesitate to accommodate us based on some feedback we observed about one of our choices. Our party of originally 8, was about 30 minutes late, and they still held our table on a busy night. All of our appetizers came out earlier than reasonable, and to a hungry crowd they promptly disappeared. Our server Ava did a great job pairing a few of our choices with cocktails as well as wine, and surprised us at the end with a spectacular desert board. Went here for date night, and it was a waste in my opinion. The atmosphere was pretty dead, no one else was under 30 there. The food was pricy and honestly not that good. I got the sashimi bowl, and the fish was okay quality but definitely not special or worth the price. Wouldn't recommend. If anything, go to the Keg or something. read more

I am a huge, huge, huge fan of Wildcraft, and am surprised it's not on Yelp already! Found it a few years ago while looking for fine dining options in Waterloo - Wildcraft is one of the Charcoal Group restaurants, and the only I've been to. It easily is one of my favorite restaurants period. The dining room is quite stunning and sharp, the servers friendly and helpful. But what really shines about Wildcraft is the food. First off, they bring you a basket of various types of bread they make in house, such as walnut bread, plus a tasty dipping sauce of olive oil, red pepper (or tomato?) sauce and pesto. Other things I've had and loved: -For a few years they had a roasted tomato soup with asiago crouton - it's off the menu now, but if they have it as a special, GET IT! -Flatbread pizzas are insanely tasty, we've tried the mediterranean chicken and wild mushroom ones. They're also awesome about dietary issues - I can't eat basil without getting sick, and they made a sauce just for me without it. They accomodated my husband's vegan needs as well (no cheese on the flatbread) -Specials kick ass - once I had a turkey sandwich with cranberry, frisee, and some other goodness. SO GOOD. A delightful and very romantic 4th wedding anniversary -- the complimentary glasses of bubbly were a nice touch. The scallop saltimboca (prosciutto wrapped sea scallops, lemon white wine cream and fried sage leaves) was sublime; the roasted rack of Ontario Lamb with sundried tomato tapenade crust, caper oregano jus, charred vegetables and roasted shallot smashed potato was tender, succulent, and richly savory. Went to Wildcraft for Valentine's Day, but only ordered a dessert off the Valentine's Day menu as I hadn't been before, and there was so many other stuff on their regular menu we wanted to try. First off, the bread bowl was fun. Came with some beet hummus and an amuse bouche with salmon tartar on top of a little beet chip. The amuse bouche was delicious. For an appetizer we decided to share a flatbread and picked the bianca as it seemed the most unique. The best parts about the flat bread is the presentation, as it's in a triangle, and the crust is super thin yet still soft. The combination of flavours on the bianca was subtle yet interesting. The dominant flavours was the garlic, heat from the cauliflower, and pickled fennel. The kettle chips on top gave it a nice crunch. For my main I got the short rib with celeriac puree, crispy polenta, caramelized onions, goat cheese, roasted grape tomatoes, and boy choy. Really enjoyed it, and would say it is better than the short rib dish at Bauer Kitchen, as this one had a lot more going on. The puree was fantastic, and so smooth. Mixing the short rib with some goat cheese, puree, caramelized onion, or au jus definitely made for some delicious bites. My girlfriend got the Garganelli Pasta which also was delicious as I had a couple bites. It was apparently great with the feta. I liked that it just wasn't a tomato sauce For dessert we got the Cheesecake Lolipops, which were delicious. The outside coating was nice and crunchy, and they were nice and cold. A perfect ending to a meal. We tried all three kinds, and the New York cheesecake one was our favourite. We also got the brownie and blondie dessert which was only on the Valentine's Day menu. The creme fraiche ice cream was our favourite part. Wish there had been more of that on the plate. read more

This is a upscale restaurant built in the vein of the Houstons chain with dark woods and cocktail menus. The prices are on the steep side and the staff are above-average looking. Our business group expensed the meal, but when I looked around there were others who were paying out of their own pocket. Overall I was disappointed by the grand sounding steak which was 45-day dry aged. I also thought serving such a fine piece of meat with a bacon showed a lack of finesse. We chose Wildcraft to celebrate our 20th anniversary with our two children and my mother-in-law, and so when booking my wife asked for a nice table. Due to COVID protocol, the only tables were outdoors. On that evening rain was threatening, so we were very disappointed upon arrival to find that our table was pretty much the only one without protection from the elements. Certainly nothing special about it! Having voiced our disappointment and concerned that we might soon get wet, we were getting ready to leave when the manager, Justin, came and offered to set us up in a more sheltered area. We accepted, and after some shuffling of tables and glasses of complimentary sparkling wine, we settled in. Our server, Troy, was a hoot and very attentive. After a very pleasant meal we were presented with a "Happy Anniversary" dessert board on the house. So, kudos and thanks to the folks at Wildcraft who went the extra mile to not only atone for dropping the ball initially, but then to really ensure that our 20th was a memorable one. read more

This restaurant was chosen by the staff for our work Christmas dinner as we've come here before and enjoyed the food and ambiance. The food at best was mediocre. I got the Asian beef salad for my starter and the beef although well cooked was very cold. The rest of the salad was very bland with unappetizing chunks if avocado thrown in. My main was a little better, ( mushroom fusilli with chicken) but as the other reviews have mentioned, it could have passed for a meal at Kelsey's or Montana's. Definitely not worth the money. No good for vegetarians or vegans, despite plastering "plant based" on their menu. Considering the amount of world cuisine out there, Wildcraft put very little effort or imagination into offering these kind of options. Recently went for a Christmas dinner with my work and the vegetarian menu item was a boring spaghetti (with mushrooms and veggie bacon). In short, the portion was minuscule, there were a total of three mushrooms and the veggie 'bakon" was nothing more than sliced up Yves Veggie Bacon (for the meat eaters this is the equivalent of bologna). The whole thing was swimming in oil (about a 1/4 cup congealed in the bottom of my empty plate). I went to a meat carvery in the UK 15 years ago, and their menu was more creative (seitan and mushroom wellington with a lovely mushroom coriander sauce). I recognize that vegetarian dining is a niche client base, but if you're going to offer something, at least make it worth leaving the house for. read more

On par with something like a Moxies or a Milestones, but it wasn't that much of a "nice place". Nothing made me go "wow" except for the bill. The complimentary birthday desert was good though!
