The restaurant has a Sunday Brunch buffet. There's a decent selection of foods on the buffet. -many breakfast items like eggs, pancakes, waffles, bacon, etc. -baked ham and roast beef - large number of salads including pasta, potato salad, lettuce with a meager selection of "veg", shrimp - desserts like pies and bread pudding Overall, the food was good. Not great. The lineups were long and the buffet isn't situated in a large enough area. You feel like you're on top of the person in front and behind you. The salad selection was ok but nothing stood out as really tasty. In fact, the shrimps were water logged and really crappy. They claim they have 16 feet of desserts. You'd think, "that's a lot of desserts." Nope. They take all the pies and cut them into slices, place them on plates and lay it on a table. So, it's 16 feet of plates. It was hard to get coffee and refills of water as the staff were never around to do so. They were good about clearly plates though. It's an old, tired looking restaurant. Many rooms and no "flow". We had two occasions to dine at the golf steak& sea food restaurant this month and could not resist letting other diners know about our very enjoyable dining experience. The food was excellent, the options were great , the salad bar is always a hit, the homemade style (red pepper soup ) was so good ( I was tempted to ask for a second bowl) But I needed room for the main coarse that was delicious to the last bite. We have to thank Mario (our server) so professional and attentive. I have been dining off and on for almost 50 years at Golfs and have to say they have earned a five star rating, They are to be congratulated for fifty years of fine service. Booked a reservation for two at Golf's. Was greeted and seated without delay. Staff was pleasant and efficient. The restaurant has seating to accommodate pretty much any sort of gathering down to couples. Tables are well appointed with fine linens. We both had the seafood platter and the calamari for an appetizer. Dinners come with an open salad bar and soup of the day. Although a bit old school having the salad bar was vastly superior to the lackluster salads you get from most steakhouses including the keg and the Charcoal Steakhouse locally. The preparation of the seafood was on point with scollops, shrimp, and lobster tails being perfectly seasoned. Cocktails ordered were prepared from scratch without the use of off the shelf cocktail mixes. The only negative comment I would have is that our appetizer came to the table at the same time we were having the soup and salad so the table was a bit crowded and we felt a bit rushed. Probably one of my favourite steakhouses by far in the KW region. I made a reservation and was promptly seated for 2 in the room that overlooked the Grand River. COVID protocols were well done. From the entry way to the dining room, everything was marked so that you don't walk into the patrons leaving the restaurant. The tables were spread apart well and service was immaculate. I came with a guest for their birthday. We both ordered the prime rib; one with a side of rice pilaf, the other with a double baked potato. For appetizers, we started with the bacon wrapped scallops. The server came with freshly toasted garlic bread - this was delicious. Nice crisp bread, nicely buttered with a ton of garlic flavour. The meal came with a soup, a salad and of course your choice of carb and market greens. The soup of the day was a potato soup that tasted like a turkey stuffing in a bowl. The flavours were on point. Creamy, delicious, hot. The caesar salad was made with ice berg (they let us know in advance that was what they had for the day). The dressing was overly sweet for me, not enough garlic anchovy flavour you expect from a caesar salad. Bacon wrapped scallops - 6 nicely sized scallops with a crisp bacon exterior. These were so good. With a spritz of lemon, they were meaty, perfectly cooked. Yum! Now comes the star of the meal. The prime rib was cooked to medium rare. Perfect. Soft, tender pieces of meat that had little bits of au jus. The horseradish was beautifully paired. The prime rib literally melts in your mouth. Twice baked potato was really good and garlicky. The rice pilaf was flavourful but a little over salted, but that's ok. They gave us a slice of cherry cheesecake, new york style for the birthday guest. It made them very very happy. The cheesecake was not dense. It was light. You taste the cheese but it wasn't overkill. Overall, this meal stuffed us very very well. For 2 mains and an appetizer to share under $100 with tip, this was an absolutely delightful meal. read more

Couldn't be more disappointed For decades, Golf's Steak House in Kitchener has been our go to restaurant for a special meal. It has always been great food and a pleasant experience. That changed tonight. We ordered our usual, my husband the prime rib, and myself, the petit filet. The first minor disappointment was the smaller slices of garlic bread, cut from a baguette, and a little crunchy, instead of the larger softer pieces. Nothing major. The salad bar is still terrific, and the sides were delicious. However, my filet, though cooked perfectly, was tough, I couldn't chew it, and sent it back when the waitress showed up to remove my husband's plate. The is the 2nd time in my life I have sent a filet back for being tough, with two very different responses. The first time was The Keg, where they replaced, not only my steak, but the sides as well, which I had already eaten from the original entree. To. top it off, they also removed it from the bill. Golf's solution was to offer coffee/tea & a dessert. I don't drink coffee/tea and I don't eat dessert. She brought our bill, and the machine to pay (which had a larger amount in it, by more than $25). When I asked about the bill I asked for a discount on my meal because I couldn't eat the meat. I would have been thankful for something off, not free, as I did eat all the parts of the meal. When I spoke to the manager on departing, he told me the chef tasted it and didn't find it tough. The customer isn't always right.The filet is supposed to be the most tender cut, which is why I order it, as I have trouble chewing. My hubby's prime rib was more tender than the filet. I went to Golf's for their Sunday brunch, which for $22.95 per person you can enjoy a large variety of delicious meats, fresh seafood, colorful salads, and delectable desserts all in buffet style. My group came at around 11am for the brunch and the lineup at the buffet was super long that we waited for 15 minutes before it was our turn to get the food. But then by 12pm the line virtually disappeared, so I would suggest coming for the brunch after 12pm, especially since the brunch hour doesn't end until 2:30pm. Environment: The restaurant is located in an area of Kitchener that is a little difficult to access without driving. Even though you could take the bus there, the 5 and 6 aren't very frequent, so you'd have to take either the 12 or 202, then walk to the restaurant. However, if you drive there are ample of free parking spaces. In terms of the interior of the restaurant, it gives a nice vintage feel, a place full of character. There are tables beside the window which allows you to get a good view of the Grand River. Unfortunately, the overall space is quite cramped and you gotta be careful not to bump into anyone. Food: Many people rave about their Prime Rib, I think my favourite was their beef ribs. It was really flavourful and super tender, that the meat literally fell out of the bones. I couldn't help but to get a second and even a third helping because it was sooo goooooood. Other foods available at the Sunday brunch includes the stable breakfast items (eggs, home fries, pancakes, waffles, bacon, sausage), a full salad bar, a pastry and cheese table, and a cake buffet with many varieties (cheesecake, boston cream, tiramisu, black forest). Breakdown of rest of experience: View: 4.5. Yup. The Draw. View as marred by peeling paint on the exterior doors and somewhat unkempt grounds: 1. Food: Breakdown here: *Garlic bread opener: 3. Typical. Did come with nice dish of cool yet spreadable whipped butter. At least a place that aspires to be upscale, puts it on the table to open. *Seafood chowder: 3. Nothing else worth mentioning. It did occur to me to ask how they source the ingredients, but I didn't remember to ask when the bowl was collected. *Garlic mashed potatoes: 1.5. Warm dish, stale scoop of potatoes. Nice cold dish of rich sour cream to accompany. *String beans: 2. Dulled colour, not too crisp. i.e. ... Overcooked. Saved by salt and fat added. *Mushrooms: 3.5. Not bad, also well enhanced by salt, fat. Maybe a bit too much as they softened the pan fried mushrooms a tiny too much. *Onion rings: 4. Thank gods these were not Burger King grade. Good lighter batter and inside texture. Could be hotter (like the rest of the food but hey, when you order Chateaubriand in a restaurant famed for having to keep up with its own business, to be expected). *Carrots: 4. Quite nice. Still mostly firm, beautifully sweet ... maybe didn't need so much salt and fat added cuz they were nicely flavourful. *Baked tomato. OK this was the wildcard ... Idk. 3? The tomato itself, I could pick one better at the local Food Basics or No Frills. Tough, fibrous centre; underripe, cardboard plus jellyfish type remainder. Redeemed by the unprocessed cheese melted on it. Gets the "interestingness" star rating. *The Meat: 4. Not least because, this is one of the few restaurants where, when it comes to doneness, you get what you ask for, not the typical next level of cookedness. I won't forget that this typically hugely busy place does have its own interest in not wasting a second more than they have to on actual cooking, but appreciated nonetheless. Tender, juicy, a decent slab of beef. If the temperature had hit the sweet spot, could be 5. Recommended that you eat this without the optional HP Sauce, Heinz Ketchup bottles seen on other tables to appreciate it on its own merit. Service: 4.75. At first, BF was a bit miffed that after our water, the server got busy with other things and he couldn't ask for his Warmer beverage as soon as he'd have liked; but, apart from that, she was quite attentive. Definitely an experienced staff who knows exactly how to do her job. This included carving and serving the Chateaubriand, and being ready for anything the moment it was requested. Also, the rest of the staff appear to be trained in the value of good customer service, because you could see similar attitudes reflected by the other servers. Last but not least, kudos to the young staff who greeted us and made sure we were accommodated quickly and with a desired window table that had just become free. We did make a reservation; but, knowing that only a number is counted and no guarantees are made for specific tables, it was appreciated. Same nice young staff was willing to interrupt his meal break to direct me properly to the restrooms later on our way out. Having said all that, I can't condone a few things, not least of which was the bad surprise (especially because I didn't check the check until we had left) with menu price vs. charge discrepancies. Also, it is neon-light-blinking obvious that the place is relying far too heavily on its prime real estate, and not even maintaining itself well enough to warrant the comparatively shameless plugs for more business - you have not just outdated decor, which isn't necessarily evil in itself, but the grounds badly need cleaning in the area along the stairs out in back, and the doors are peeling horribly - one was far more naked metal than remnants of brown paint. Meanwhile, the billboard out front is plugging for wedding receptions and celebratory event bookings, and I have to say, I wasn't surprised for long when I had already asked myself, Do people book this place for wedding on a Victoria Day weekend? Because I saw nothing of that sort, and I can see why. Real shame that this now-iconic Kitchener restaurant is unable to sustain its once-thriving business apart from its old reputation. We have dined at Golf's many, many times over the years. it is our go to place for special occasions as well as for a nice dinner out. On Monday, June 26th we were so looking forward to a delicious prime rib dinner. Our server Meg was very friendly and accommodating. We ordered the vegetable beef soup. It was very salty! The green beans were too salty to eat. We ordered medium rare prime rib. What came out was rare. We sent it back to be a little better done. The server brought out a brown piece of meat with grill marks on it. It was bland and didn't even look or taste like prime rib. The manager came to apologize but did not offer to take the meals off the bill. We left most of the dinner on the plate. We were understandably very disappointed to pay $70.00 for such an awful meal. read more

Was there for supper celebration, ordered the medium rare prime rib, more rare than medium, medium was basically the outer centimetre, which could be cut with a fork, not so for the rest of the prime rib. Even with the steak knife had difficulty cutting the prime rib, unlike keg or Mandarin, which is fork cuttable and melts in your mouth. Golf's prime rib was tough, chewy and similar to other negative comments. As the dinner wore on, the water got warmer and warmer each time it was refilled. The other members of the party had chicken dishes which were finished. The chicken piece was fairly large and hot. No jus/gravy was delivered with prime rib, horse radish cleaned out cobwebs, similar to The Keg, hotter than the Mandarin. We usually come for brunch for the celebration, tried dinner, will try to do brunch and not supper. Will try another meat if come back for dinner. Server was friendly and filled water when needed, checked occasionally, I did not complain as I usually get worse on the second time around. 'If you can do it right the second time, why can't you do it right the first time'. Various selections of unlabeled dishes, different types of dressing, names on different types of salads would be helpful. Hopefully, it will be a better experience, if we return. read more

My 1 star is for the only part of my meal I was happy with, they rested my steak. That being said, it was the worst steak I've ever had! Barely any edible meat, exclusively fat and grizzle. Undercooked, which is surprising for a steakhouse. The menu is so old fashioned, the baked potatoes are served to your table, still wrapped in foil. 3 of our 6 glasses were dirty. I don't like restaurants like this. 1 vegetable for every entree. No composed dishes by any chef. If you own a BBQ or a frying pan, buy your own piece of meat, throw a foil wrapped potato from the grocery store in the microwave and some frozen beans and save yourself the money! Weekend brunch has all you can eat prime rib! Have been here once for dinner and multiple times for their weekend brunch. getting a seat by the window is great with a view of the stream. The service is alright, not bad not exceptional just the usual. The decor does feel very dated. The customers are usually families and seniors that can sometimes be a bit stodgy and feel a bit unwelcoming. But hey im coming for the restaurant not other people who eat there Dinner is on the more expensive side, but the cuts of the beef roasts were really tender. The brunch has a salad bar with lots to choose from. Their warm foods include baked fish, green beans, potatoes, large bbq beef ribs (which are also very tender!), scrambled eggs, bacon, waffles, creamy lasagne, and my favourite their prime rib. Definitely the best place to go for the best steak anywhere in Kitchener Waterloo or prime rib dinner. Their King of Steaks is the 23 Oz T-bone porterhouse steak dinner. I've had this dinner several times and it is mouth-watering succulent and outstanding dinner. The prime rib dinners there are two different sized dinners and they are probably the best prime rib dinners in town. My wife usually orders the steak and lobster tail or shrimp dinners and she said they're also outstanding. Usually as a starter we have Caesar salad which is outstanding or I get their French onion soup bowl which is absolutely the richest tasting broth perfectly dark brown sauteed mushrooms mouth watering and succulent. Probably one of the best french onion soup so I've had anywhere by far. The salad bar I'm not fussy on I find sometimes the leaf lettuce is a slightly Brown. We're solid bar needs a little work to bring it up-to-date. However if you order a Caesar salad it is made fresh and they are absolutely outstanding. The service is usually awesome and the food outstanding. Highly recommended by myself. read more

Golf's has been a staple in the restaurant scene in K-W for many years and there is a reason for that. They are consistently excellent with their menu offerings. Despite their famous salad bar being shut down due to COVID, they have managed to fill the gap with superb appetizers. Included with our meal, was a fantastic cream of mushroom soup and tasty caesar salad and delightful garlic toast. I opted for the filet and it did not disappoint. From the moment we entered the front door. The service was delayed and unresponsive. The entire evening followed a similar pattern, everything was slow and poorly executed. The waitress was unattentive and paid 2 - 3 visits to the table the entire 2 hours we were there. The food was in all honesty, the 2nd worst meal of my entire 31 years of life. I really have no more time to spend on this, except for my final words of two thumbs down. I have been to Golf's Steak House numerous times with my family to celebrate special occasions. I think overall it is a good place, although sadly the highlight is the all you can eat salad bar. All of the mains are decent, and they are reasonably priced for a steak house, but it won't be the best you have had by a mile. Years ago I was briefly vegetarian and we went here. There was a few vegetarian options, and I got the cabbage rolls. The chefs at the time had absolutely no clue when it came to vegetarian food. There was no significant protein within the roll. No beans. No quinoa. Nothing. I was very hungry soon after. I've had the shrimp and scallops before, and those were good I think. I've also had the ribs there, and they were okay, but you will find way better ribs at the KW Ribfest. Though I don't regret ordering the ribs. It's basically a more reasonable Charcoal Steakhouse. They frequently come around to ensure everything is well and you've enjoyed your meal. The prices are very good given this is a steakhouse and the salad bar is amazing. It has everything you could possible want. I'm not a meat eater, but I have heard from multiple people that the Prime Rib is outstanding. This is such an old(!) classic, we were here by obligation and would never return voluntarily. Our food was an assortment of cold, under cooked, slow, over cooked and lacked variety. My dining partner requested mashed potatoes but they refused and instead served the classic baked potato still wrapped in foil. The veggies were clearly cooked from frozen and our plates lacked any sign of a chef preparing them, they resembled more of a school cafeteria lunch tray. Our server was less than attentive and the threat of plaster falling onto our plates was pretty serious.
