The store is a treasure trove, offering high-end camping gear alongside a nostalgic selection of candy sold by weight. This wide angle creates a unique shopping experience that caters to a depth of audience. The aisles are stocked with university-branded apparel and an eclectic mix of knick-knacks and toys, blending modern and vintage elements seamlessly. Navigating through the store I found myself drawn to the carefully curated sections featuring well-known brands like L.L. Bean and Patagonia, each showcasing top-tier camping gear. The store's commitment to quality is evident in every product, promising durability and reliability for outdoor enthusiasts. The candy aisle is what is the most impressive to me having all of the old-school candy and the ability to buy what you want per the weight or even a separate bag for gifts later on to family member members makes this experience truly wonderful. Overall, Mast General Store offers a distinctive blend of functionality and fun, making it a must-visit destination for anyone seeking unique finds or quality outdoor equipment. I'll definitely be returning to explore more of what this gem has to offer. RATINGS & LOGISTICS: - Atmosphere: 10/10 - Exhibit Quality: 8/10 - Service/Flow: 8/10 - Value: 9/10 - Would Return: Yes. They did have some, but they were generic. I wanted something more specific to the area. There is a parking garage nearby. The area is super busy and you may have to walk a ways to get to the store. Stay pet friendly, this is a lovely perk to visiting!

I went down the river on 5/21, and we had a great experience with NOC on the Upper Pigeon River…read more On our first day, because I am a bit spacey, I somehow ended up in the middle of the mountains with no gas station nearby and on Empty. Thankfully, I noticed it when we were very close to a rest area, so we did not end up stranded on the side of the road. Triple A came out, and all was well, but we missed our original rafting time. When we called NOC Upper Pigeon, they allowed us to reschedule for the next day without any fee or hassle. I was very grateful for that because it would have been awful to have to pay again just because we missed it. The check-in process was very smooth. Everything was clearly explained; the instructions were easy to follow, the bus ride was short, and the bus was clean. "@b****nee" was our guide, and she was really great at her job. You could tell she genuinely enjoyed it, and she shared a lot of interesting information about the river. One of the best parts was that she tried to get a sense of whether we wanted a more adventurous ride or something a little calmer. Being able to tailor the experience a bit to what we wanted made it even better. At one of the rapids, I ended up falling out of the raft (it happens), and "@b****nee" basically turned into Hercules and helped me get back in easily. I am not someone who is very easy to please, but @b****nee was excellent. You can tell she enjoys what she does, and she was also very hospitable, professional, and reassuring throughout the trip. Overall, it was a great experience.

On a recommendation from our super nice server at The Open Oven restaurant, we stopped in to Take a Hike to grad a pair from him. We we happy to see that they allow pets/dogs in the store so that one of us wasn't stuck in the car with the pups. The store has tons of great clothes, shoes, socks and other supplies you might want for hiking. Big names like Prana, North Face, Patagonia etc. He got a pair of shorts from the clearance section and I found a handy Kavu sling purse. Win-win

There is typically plenty of parking in the lot or nearby. Standard small town hours. The shop is clean and organized. They have a good sampling of outdoor gear. Lots of seasonal clothing, some camping gear and backpacks and some Knick knacks such as hydration tabs and stickers. There is a sale rack in back. Everything is very pricy as goes with outdoor gear shops especially small ones. I would still argue that it's pretty similar to the standard- not more expensive than REI or the like. I'd definitely recommend this place for a stop in. They have a nice curated selection. Plus it's always the season for a fun new outdoor toy to inspire you to get outside ;)

I have been a customer of Smoky Mountain Knife Works since I was approximately 15 years old. I am…read morenow 50, and over the decades I have always considered SMKW one of the premier knife retailers in the country. Unfortunately, this recent experience was one of the worst customer service experiences I have had with any retailer in years. The primary item I wanted from this order was the GiantMouse GMF1P Vox Anso PVD Stonewash. The Knafs Lander 4 was more of an impulse addition afterward. I placed the order Sunday night, and for four days nothing was picked or processed. Then, on Thursday, I was informed that the GiantMouse knife was no longer available because it had apparently been sold off the showroom floor before my order was fulfilled. What makes this especially frustrating is that your representative confirmed the item WAS in stock when I purchased it. Had my order been processed in a timely manner instead of sitting untouched for four days, the knife would likely still have been available to fulfill my order. Instead, my money was held for several days, the item was removed from my order, and I was issued a refund that now may take up to 10 business days to return to me. Meanwhile, the one item I did not particularly want was already shipped before I was even properly contacted about the issue. I also received an email asking me to contact SMKW regarding my order, but by that point there was effectively nothing left to discuss because the refund had already been processed and the partial shipment had already gone out. When I called customer service, I asked why there had been no attempt to offer alternatives or upgrades. I would have gladly paid more to upgrade to a higher-end GiantMouse model or different steel option. Instead of attempting to retain a longtime customer or even upsell another product, I was simply told "there's nothing that can be done." I then asked about canceling the remaining order entirely, and I was told that if I refused the package after delivery, I would then have to wait again for the item to be returned and processed before receiving another refund. In other words, because of delays and inventory handling problems on your end, my money could effectively be tied up for weeks. That is not acceptable customer service. What concerns me most is that this no longer feels like an isolated incident. After this experience, I reviewed recent customer feedback online and found many similar complaints repeating the same themes: Excellent selection Poor communication Slow fulfillment Weak customer service Little concern for longtime customers SMKW may be the largest knife store in the world, but customer loyalty is not maintained by inventory size alone. It is maintained by how customers are treated when problems occur. I strongly suggest your company reevaluate its order fulfillment and customer service procedures, especially during large sales events. Selling inventory that is not actually secured for online customers, delaying fulfillment for days, and then holding customer funds while offering no meaningful resolution creates a very poor experience. I sincerely hope this feedback reaches management, because many longtime customers like myself do notice the difference between the SMKW of years ago and the current operation.
